Charming Two Story 2 Brdm / 1 Bath Home in Clean Friendly Neighborhood
I was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska and am proud to call this place home. I love everything about Alaska and hope that after visiting, my guests will love Alaska as well!
Pamela purchased this House in 2012
Why Pamela chose Taku / Campbell
I love this house and hope my guests will also! When I purchased the home, I really planned to live here forever - just me and my dog. But then I met my husband, and life changed. I could not bear to sell my house and chose to keep it as an Alaskan vacation rental, so that others could enjoy it as well. I love the neighborhood and the sense of community that the neighbors all share. I take pride in the home and grounds, even though its a bit on the quaint (lovingly referred to as "small and charming") side. The Stanley House has been referred to as outdated in a few reviews - However, I prefer the term "vintage". Sure it's old - but also charming and clean. I am updating and remodeling the home (DYI style) during the winter seasons and plan to remodel the kitchen next.
What makes this House unique
This is a pet friendly neighborhood and home, with active and friendly neighbors that say hello as they go by. Conveniently located near everything you may need and easy access to highways and bike & walking trails. Less than a two minute walk to Campbell Creek Trail (about a minute to the creek and trail if you are a runner!) Although there are neighbors on both sides, the home has a sense of privacy and is situated so that you are not looking into anyone's home or windows when looking outside. Wild raspberries in back yard are ripe and delicious in mid summer!

We had a great time at this property. It served as a homey base camp for an Alaskan adventure. The kitchen is very well stocked with everything you could need including 2 coffee makers and even a Crock Pot, which we used! The bedroom windows have both blinds and blackout curtains, much needed with the summer daylight. The location is in a nice residential neighborhood with easy access to the highway as well as points South. The owners are extremely attentive and want to ensure your stay is smooth.
The owner charged a Fee for an animal stain by the front door that went through the throw rug and into the carpet. We explained that we don't own any pets, we did not have any animals on the property and that I tidied and inspected the property prior to departure. The owner's story then changed to a spill stain. We had no spills or stains while we were there. We literally left the property cleaner than we found it. The owner provided no evidence of a stain and we continue to be harassed for a damage fee as overdue that we have formally disputed twice.
The property is cramped, there is animal hair everywhere you turn, the listing is misleading, the garage is unusable as a garage, the location was busy and noisy, there was no host welcome book with house-property. Each review item was rated with one star, the lowest rating because these are owner 101 items that each traveler should be able to have a clean, comfortable place to stay, with transparent transactions, and not fear getting a poor traveler rating for trumped up bogus charges by an owner for extra cash.
We use VRBO often, have had great experiences and have received compliments from every owner as to the cleanliness of our departure including this owner with exception of the "animal" oh, um, "spill" stain. Untrustworthy, harassing, and not worth it.
Location, location, location!
We chose the Stanley House because of its location; we have longtime friends within two blocks. It’s a bit dated, and there were some surprises (additional fees) during the booking process. It was not as clean as hoped but ok. (Stovetop, bathtub edge.) coffee, etc., were nice touches.
Beautifully maintained and welcoming
My husband, 8 year old son, small dog, and I loved our stay here! The home was comfortable and clean and just the right size! Small details - coffee and tea, lovely backyard, flowers, and soft blankets and rugs - made this feel better than home!!
Convenient and Affordable
We appreciated the extra supplies and responsiveness of owners. House is in convenient location.
