Make your experience in Portland as unique as the city itself! Welcome to Shift Vacation Rentals, a totally remodeled vintage home in one of Portland’s most vibrant neighborhoods, the Alberta Arts District. Designed and created by Encircle Design & Build using reclaimed and local materials and loaded with luxurious touches including radiant floor heat, concrete counters, modern tiles and tons of natural light make this vacation rental a design haven.

The house is a duplex. The upper apartment, high gear, can also be rented for even larger groups, please see vrbo/444951. It’s the perfect home base for wedding parties, reunions, workshops, family getaways, business meetings, etc. Need more room? This is a modern, bright and airy garden-level unit with a large, open living, dining and kitchen area and all the amenities you need (from wifi to coffee grinder) to live, work, entertain and explore Portland.

When you arrive, a large patio with built-in benches, table and comfortable lounge chairs greet you. Inside, an open living room, dining room and kitchen make a perfect place to hang out with family and friends.

Three bedrooms allow for comfortable sleeping for 6 people. The first and second bedrooms have queen beds with comfortable mattresses and linens. The third bedroom has two twin beds which can be pushed together to form a queen bed if desired.

The location:

This inner Northeast Portland neighborhood is one of the coolest parts of the city. Alberta Street itself is lined with galleries, boutiques, several of Portland’s top restaurants as well as dozens of casual cafés and nightspots. Eat and drink your way down the street from Peruvian to Italian to Southern, slurping locally crafted coffee, beer and ice cream. Walking distance to a movie theater, several live music venues, a farmer’s market (summer) an organic food co-op and a top-notch supermarket. Minutes from the airport and minutes to downtown make it the perfect home base for an amazing stay in Portland.

During our travels we have stayed at many places and began taking note of what we did/or didn't like with our lodgings. Our goal in creating Shift Vacation Rentals is to put together our ideal rental in our ideal city.

We hope you find the artistic, funkiness, ecologically mindedness of Portland in our rental. We partnered with many local businesses and artists in creating the home to give it a look and feel that you won't find elsewhere. A walk down Alberta Street is an experience you will adore.

What makes this house unique

The private sunken patio gives a perfect spot to drink coffee in the morning. Reclaimed materials bring a history and story to the house that make it really special. There is thoughtfulness with all of the details from the paint colors to the lighting all of the items were specifically chosen to make the house beautiful and different.

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely suite. It was so great to be located right on Alberta street, so close to the neighborhood's shops and restaurants. Yet, it was surprisingly quiet despite being so close to a busy street. Michelle was great. Everything was so easy, convenient and thoughtful. The place was everything we hoped for. We loved the modern look, the radiant floor heating and the cats lounging on the back deck. We would definitely stay there again.

This house is sooooo clean. And perfectly located.

Great place to stay in Portland. We loved this house. Managed by professionals. Would definitely recommend it. In fact, if we're in Portland again, we will rent this unit, or the one above. (it's a 2-story house). Is located in the heart of the Alberta Arts District, with several parks within walking distance. Restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and a famous ice-cream parlor, all within walking distance as well. Great place to vacation!!!!

Great location and VERY clean!!!

We just returned home after spending a week in this cute little rental. First of all, this house was spotless when we arrived and that is a very important feature in a rental. The location is in the heart of the Alberta Arts District, within walking distance to our daughter's home. There are tons of coffee shops, restaurants, and small businesses everywhere along Alberta. The food is fantastic; some of the best we've ever eaten. We love Portland, but now, we especially love this particular neighborhood. It just doesn't get any better than this. I have to be honest and say that the first night that we spent here was rough due to very noisy neighbors above who were up all night and we could hear every footstep. The problem was immediately addressed by the owner and the rest of the week was just fine. We were grateful for their prompt intervention. We intend to rent this home in the future and highly recommend it to others.

Top Notch Place

We were in town for our daughter's wedding and chose this lovely place to stay for a week. Was top notch and we give it a 10! Loved the layout of the house...the colors and the decor.... We cooked a meal one night and it was great using the modern kitchen. Loved the concrete floors and they stayed warm all day...even when walking around barefoot. It was located in a great part of Portland..enjoyed many of the restaurants and all within walking distance. The manager Whitney can be easily reached if you need to get in touch with someone. A nice note and a bottle of wine was waiting for us when we arrived. The beds were so comfy!!! Thank you Michelle and Klaus for making our stay there wonderful and it was the perfect place for us to be able to enjoy our daughter's wedding! The Silva's

Modern, clean and well appointed in a perfect location

Great neighborhood in Portland. Food trucks, second hand shops and funky art all make this a cool spot to stay. One block from the bus downtown too. Rooms were comfortable and the extras made it more so - check in amenities - nice bottle of wine, patio outside and plenty of room to chill. I was expecting it to be noisier being right on Alberta Street but we all slept well. We were here in at the end of Sept but I could see this as a destination in the summer because of the patio etc. I would definitely return.

Perfect location to experience Portlandia

We rented both the high and low gear for a family reunion. The house is well appointed and modern with a touch of eclectic. The location is fantastic for taking in the local food scene with many options in walking distance. You have to park on the side streets as there is no parking at the house itself but this was not an issue. The neighborhood is in the process of transition and well along the way. You can sit right on the front porch to enjoy your coffee and soak it up. We used the public transit on all our trips to Portland. We would take the #72 bus to the Interstate station to catch the train to Pioneer Square. On the way back we'd catch the #8 bus from outside of Macy's to the stop a block away on NE Alberta. That takes from 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. You can get an all day, all modes travel pass for the bus, train and streetcar for $5 which is a great value. our kids found that part of the adventure.

The upstairs has AC but the low gear does not so keep that in mind if it's a hot time of year.

We really loved the loft master bedroom and bathroom in the high gear.

And our kids loved the resident cat called boo boo kitty. Apparently he's well known in the neighborhood and very friendly.

If you're visiting Portland this is a great place to stay for the full experience. Sure beats the downtown hotels we were originally planning.

Is simply perfect. The house sits in the heart of Alberta Street, Portland's most vibrant funky neighborhood. You can walk to a multitude of restaurants, bars, and stores. Inner NE Portland is centrally located so visiting other neighborhoods or going downtown is a few minutes drive. The house is 15 minutes from the airport. There is plenty of free parking on the street. The bus stop is 2 blocks from the house making public transport a breeze.
