Guestbook comments from the manager

This house was enjoyed by all. It has so much character, and lent itself perfectly to our needs. Well equipped and comfortable (beds were comfortable with plenty of extra blankets on chilly days and nights too), I would recommend this spot to anyone and everyone. I'm even thinking of bringing my family back during the summer, I enjoyed it so much!

Old log cabin feel, needing some repairs

  • 3 of 5

First, the good. Nice location, in the woods, but with neighbors all around. It had the feel of a sub division, but without the nice roads. The gravel road had lots of holes, no way to dodge them all. If I had my standard sedan and not a SUV, it would have been bad. The two big issues were the mold on the wall in the non vented bathroom, we did open the window and the overall condition of the cabin. It us obviously an old structure, which I enjoyed, but many places were unlevel, especially the kitchen. Several doors also got stuck when opening. There has been attempts to update in the past with better wiring for heaters and carpet in living room, plus a thermostat on a propane heater. Those are a plus, but overall, loved the in woods feel and the roar of the river only 200 feet away. Still, with a structure with mold and unlevel, can not recommend this one. Also, asking to much to clean house, but being asked to do the dishes before we leave, really. Also, four keys on keying, but only one worked. Tried access to garage, no luck. Thought perhaps washer and dryer might be in garage due to laundry soap in gift bag. No access.

Wonderful Cabin! Would definitely stay here again with our three children.

  • 5 of 5

We had three nights in this large cabin with two younger children, a young teen, and two adults. Their were bedrooms for all of them and the younger kids enjoyed staying upstairs and sharing the upstairs bedroom with two beds, while the teen appreciated her privacy in one of the downstairs bedrooms. The cabin fulfilled all of our needs - far enough out in the woods, yet close enough to a grocery store and firewood. The ZigZag river is right down the road and our kids really enjoyed exploring it. We made some great meals each day and night and baked desserts with the mixer, played board games in the living room with a roaring fire going, and had a wonderful, unforgettablel time.

Family weekend retreat

Cute cabin with so much potential. The interior could use some updating and some cleaning, but we had a good time in spite of this. Close to conveniences and allows pets...Perk!

Old Smoky Cabin

  • 4 of 5

We recently stayed at the Old Smoky cabin in Rhododendrons. It is close to all the fun activities on Mt. Hood and a decent price. Had a rustic feel, kids loved the upstairs loft area. We will rent again next year

Beautiful house with a beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

There was a lot of love out into every nook and cranny of this place! It looks like it was decorated by a professional and I loved the floor to ceiling windows! You could see the beautiful trees and river from upstairs and down! They need to make sure in the winter that the heater is turned on 12 hours before tenants arrive b/c we were all so cold in our jackets and gloves until the next morning. We had the fire going and all heaters and it took that long! I was so tensed up from shivering for so long I woke up with a tense neck and back the next morning which made it so I couldn't participate in the sledding or snowshoeing; the weekend is over and my neck is still in pain. I tried to take a hot bath to help but the water heater isn't big enough to support filling the bathtub up enough. It's a huge bathtub which would be so cool to take a bath in if the water heater would support it. Also they stated that the pullout couch would fit 2, maybe 2 kids but not a adult and a kid. It's a little bigger than a twin but not by much. No dishwasher. Make sure you bring your own fire wood from home. If you wait to buy it at the local store it costed us $20 and all that fire wood only lasted 1 day. We relied on the fireplace for warmth since 2 of the cadet heaters didn't work. There was only one heater up stairs and one downstairs. Overall it was a beautiful place and we had a blast. They just need to tweak it a little to be perfect.

Unimpressed with the cleanliness and lots of broken furniture

  • 1 of 5

Several articles of furniture were broken and potentially dangerous: the kitchen table was nearly falling apart; one kitchen chair was broken so the seat fell off every time someone sat on it; and the cabinets in the living room were leaning/falling and the doors were loose and swinging open. The third stair was broken and the carpet was loose/falling off. This caused one of my guests to fall down the stairs and get a huge bruise. The dishwasher did not work – it does not connect to the sink like it is supposed to. We had 8 people here for 3 days and it was a huge pain to hand wash everything when we had been told that we would be able to use a dishwasher.

I am very glad my guests did not bring their 3-year old son because this place was not child proof at all. The heaters are dangerously hot and there are cords/wires dangling all over the living room walls.

The place was VERY dusty and there were cobwebs all over. Carpet didn't look like it had been vacuumed either. There was no vacuum on site that we could find, so we had to just deal with it. There was also a significant amount of mold on the bathroom walls that one of my guests was allergic to. I realize this place is dog-friendly, but someone with dust or mold allergies should not stay here either.

The cabin was in a great location and the neighborhood was lovely. I would recommend a smaller group than 8, we were definitely at maximum capacity. Also recommend bringing firewood, tupperware containers, and your own toilet paper. The cabin had almost everything else we needed.
