The cottage built after the 1953 earthquake has been lovingly restored in 2009 and is attached to the owners villa built at the same time. This imposing property commands panoramic sea views of the south of the Island from the Argassi Peninsulla to Keri with Marithanesi (turtle ) Island in the centre..On the hillside on the edge of the village of Lithakia the cottage is set in its own olive grove of over an acre with fruit trees, gardens and even chickens (fresh eggs are available)
The air conditioned cottage also has underfloor heating with a double bedroom, lounge/second bedroom with TV/DVD player and stereo. The modern kitchen is equiped with a cooker, washing machine, fridge, toaster, tea maker, coffee maker, steam iron, ironing board, cutlery, crockery and kitchen utensils. The luxury tiled bathroom has a WC, hand basin, bath and walk in shower. All linen and towels are provided. The large veranda is supplied with table and chairs with steps to the pool area.
The walks on Zakynthos are some of the best in The Mediterranean. The routes normally follow the tracks used by the olive farmers and quite often you will not come across a single person on a walk of 15 kilometres.
In Spring and Autumn the hillsides are covered with many varieties of wild flowers and swooping buzzards complete the amazing scenery.
Walk round a corner and come across stunning views of the mountains and sea with dramtatic cliffs and caves, the walks on the Island are a truly memorable experience.
John will act either as your guide or supply you with detailed maps of the walks and how to get to the start point. This is without doubt the best way to discover and enjoy this beautiful Island. For more details go to www.nefis-travel.com (John is one of the guides)
If you would like to learn how to knit, crochet or cross stitch Gillian will be happy to pass on her knowledge and experience.

See what Island life is really about and go home with your own bottles of extra virgin olive oil.
You will earn your free stay, olive picking can only be decribed as hard work but a few days out in the clean Island air will guarentee to send anybody home fitter and healthier than when they arrived.(no previous experience with a chain saw required!)

Would like to thank John and Gilly for their kindness during our stay at olive tree cottage! The accommodation is everything you need for for your holiday and has views to die for.
The handmade Greek treats we received regularity from John during our stay were delicious and our hosts made us feel so welcome and relaxed. The pool was fantastic, just the right size for a swim and Is nice and private and very clean. Lovely outside seating area to take in the views while dining a la fresco. John let us help ourselves to fresh lemons off the trees and provided us with eggs from his hens.
The accommodation itself is clean, comfortable and well equipped with good air conditioning and Insect screens. Great bathroom and shower with lots of hot water.
It's only a short walk to the local shop where they could not be friendlier, even helping us to call a taxi when we were struggling with accent barriers and place name pronouncement. There are Places to eat nearby if you do not wish to drive and john has some great reccomedations for more traditional tavernas and day trips.
Would like to thank john especially for being such a good host despite his daily trips to the hospital and lack of sleep on this week in particular! It was very much appreciated.
Love this beautiful island and the cottage is the perfect base to explore from, giving you the chance to do the quiet traditional holiday but also with the option of some nightlife only 10 euros away in a taxi if u wish. Absolutely fantastic and Looking forward to returning! Would highly reccomend
Could not have stayed anywhere nicer. Our hosts were delight full and the villa is fantastic with the most amazing views. The local knowledge provided you just wouldn't get in a resort hotel. My first visit to Zante and I truly have been spoiled, so much so I plan on returning next year for 2 weeks rather than 1 and most definitely at the beautiful villa.
We first visited John and Gilly last year, and it was such a success we decided to repeat it, this time taking the opportunity to explore some new places. Our visit was once again greatly enhanced by John's wonderful range of foods (including home-made croissants this time around!) and his local knowledge of the area, which took us to places we'd never have found in a hundred years without his help.
On John's advice, we went to some lovely eateries on the island, including a rustic farmhouse tucked away in the Greek countryside and a very modern cafe right on the coast. We also visited the scenic Blue Caves, which must be seen to be believed, and a little more of the village behind the cottage, which has a quiet, serene air to it (and a corner shop with fresh bread, which always helps too.)
Add in some great views from the cottage and one of the friendliest dogs we've had the pleasure to encounter, and it was another holiday to remember. A recommended holiday destination!
John and Gillian are lovely people and extremely helpful and hospitable. John collected my husband and myself from Zante airport for the drive to Olive Tree Cottage where we would be spending our holiday of 2 weeks. On arrival we were greeted by Honey, John and Gillian's lovely and friendly dog with lots of tail wagging!!! John showed us around our accomodation and explained everything to us i.e heating the shower, using the washing machine etc. After about an hour, John served us a Greek lunch on our huge balcony with beautiful views of Olive and Cypress trees with a view of the sea just beyond. As stated in the previous reviews, we were treated to lots of treats from John and Gillian throughout our 2 weeks. We tasted John's home made olive bread, various varieties of scones and bread, pitta bread, greek frittars and so many other tasty treats. Gillian's marmalade was so much nicer than supermarket brands - it also had a special ingredient added to it which you
wouldn't find in mass produced marmalade (ask Gillian about it). John also helped to arrange our hire car. John and Gillian ensured that our holiday went well with lots of tips and advise where to visit and eat. We visited lots of different beaches and found them all worth a visit. The sea was extremely warm and so safe for children. We enjoyed all the beaches - they all had their different charms and 'wow' factor! We didn't lack for anything and enjoyed all the places we ate at. The local people are so friendly and helpful and will go out of their way to help if needed. I think that everything I would like to say about John, Gillian and Olive Tree Cottage has been said in all the previous reviews and I have to agree with all of them. I also want to say 'Hello' to Honey and tell her I miss her exuberant greetings and tail wagging. So John and Gillian, (and Honey) if you read this review, thank you so much for a delightful 2 weeks spent at Olive Tree Cottage, thank you so much for your hospitality and thank you so much for your help with the hire car and bike hire. I would have no hesitation in recommending Olive Tree Cottage and Zathynkos.

If you want a holiday away from the crowds and wish to experience authentic Zante then look no further than Olive Tree Cottage. Having read previous reviews we already felt as if we knew John and Gilly and cannot praise them enough for their friendliness and hospitality. As with those before us we were lucky enough to sample John’s culinary delights on a daily basis and his wealth of knowledge about all things on the island made all the difference to our enjoyment of this holiday. Nothing was too much trouble and when, for example, we had a problem with our hire car John came with us to lend a helping hand. Gilly, too, was very friendly and spent an afternoon teaching our son, Jonathan, the basics of backgammon which he very much enjoyed. They were also kind enough to let us pass on their details to our teenage daughter who was having her first ‘girl’s holiday’ away from the Mum and Dad (every parent’s nightmare!) a fortnight after we returned for which we are very grateful. We ate at restaurants we wouldn’t have known about and sat with local people and experienced what Greece is really like. The visit to the Farmhouse was especially memorable and we spent a very enjoyable evening chatting to our hosts. We did say we might return to the cottage next year and, having re-lived our holiday memories we're seriously thinking about checking out the flights! Thank you once again and our very best wishes to you both.
Arriving in Zante we were greeted by John at the airport with a very warm welcome, as it was Sunday lunchtime John and Gilly had prepared a wonderful traditional Greek lunch which we ate on the balcony, sitting in the sun overlooking the sea – a perfect start to the holiday.
The accommodation was ideal for a family of four with everything we needed it was well maintained and close to local amenities and beaches. We spent some days just lazing by the lovely pool which was great, but I would recommend hiring a car so that you can get to see some of this lovely island and this is where John was invaluable, as he could advise on places worth visiting, the best routes to take and some fantastic restaurants – I would definitely advise a trip to the fish restaurant in Porto Roulis, wonderful food, the setting was perfect, right on the beach and it was amazing value for money, also the Green boat – both places we would never have found without Johns knowledge of Zante. The boat trip to the blue caves is a must if just for the snorkeling from the boat alone, I have never seen sea as clean and blue as around here. Also hiring a motor boat is good fun – if you ask John he can advise the best place to get one from, going down to the local resort is definitely cheaper than the ones in Laganas.
It was great to have John and Gilly on hand they were never intrusive but more than happy to help make our holiday such a wonderful experience, even arranging for the girls to go kayaking in the bay, they were lucky enough to even see a turtle.
All in all we had a wonderful relaxing holiday and I would recommend Olive tree cottage to anyone wanting to get away from it all and unwind – in fact we’ve all said we wish we were still there!
On the edge of the village of Lithakia this is the perfect location for a peaceful and relaxing holiday. The pool area is shaded with olive and fruit trees for the hot summer days with hammocks, sun loungers and BBQ provided.
The shops are just 3 minutes walk away with several tavernas also in the village. The sandy beaches of Liminaki and Agios Sostis are just 5 minutes away by car with beach bars and water sports provided. The Island is famous for its Loggerhead Turtles which can be seen in the summer months(just hire a pedalo) The clear blue waters are a delight to swim in and the Island has several blue flag beaches.
The cottage is just 8 kilometres from the airport and 10 kilometres from Zakynthos (Zante) Town and ferry port with its lively bars and restaurants and the ornately decorated St Dennis's Church. For the energetic there are superb walks in the mountains with breathtaking views and bike rides (some more challenging than others).
We are always available to help you.
