About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms,2 Baths (Sleeps 6) Family Friendly Home

This lovely spacious home has 2 large bedrooms and 1 smaller bedroom, with 2 full bathrooms. It also features air conditioning for those hot summer days, and a pellet stove (with furnace backup) for those chilly nights. Direct TV and WiFi internet access are available at the cottage. This cottage features an open, inviting floor plan with lots of windows. It has been completely renovated and updated. A beautiful sunroom off the dining area provides a peaceful place to relax.

Conveniently located a short drive from Bar Harbor's bustling downtown, this peaceful home sits along the bus route for the Island Explorer free shuttle buses. Leave your car behind, and hop on a bus for a free ride anywhere on Mount Desert Island and into Acadia National Park. Our cottage sits on a large private lot surrounded by oak trees, and is within walking distance of the ocean. Several popular campgrounds and lobster pounds are within 1 miles, and sea kayaking rentals are within a mile. Our home is within ten to fifteen minutes from each of the towns on Mt. Desert Island: Somesville, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. All of these towns have their own character, and offer their own unique blend of restaurants, sightseeing, whale watching, arts, community events, mountains for hiking, carriage roads for walking or biking, beaches, parks, lighthouses, sailing, and boat-filled harbors.

About Rita and Tom Blair

We are a contractor and a retired CNA. We are native Mainers, and one of us grew up right here in Bar Harbor! We have five children and many grandchildren, all living in Maine.

Rita and Tom Blair purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Rita and Tom Blair chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

Although one of us grew up here, we both lived off of Mount Desert Island for many years. Buying this property gave us the opportunity to move back home to a place we love.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the quiet location of our home, close enough to Bar Harbor to access all that it has to offer, but far enough removed to provide us with a private, peaceful place to come home to at the end of the day. We also love that we can step outside and smell the fresh ocean air, and can hop on the free Island Explorer buses and get anywhere on the Island without taking a car.

Comfortable, clean and convenient

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at the Bright Oak Leaf Cottage - four adults and room to spare. The Fall colors were beautiful.

spacious, light, and airy

  • 5 of 5

I had read other reviews and knew what to expect. This was a very welcoming home to stay in. The owners did a great job of anticipating their visitors' needs. Beds were comfortable. Kitchen well stocked. (even tools for cracking open lobster) Location was especially convenient for getting onto and off the island. It actually had more room than we needed. (3 adults and one child) There were even toys and games provided. Tom kindly put up a clothesline when I asked if there was one. You should bring clothespins though. Loved that there were 2 bathrooms and that a 7 day minimum stay wasn't required. All in all, I would definitely recommend.

A great house in a secluded wood.

  • 5 of 5

The house is well located (if you like seclusion) at a place where fairly short drives take you to all places on the island. It's down a well maintained gravel driveway blocked from the main road by a small forest (the trees block the view of the road but not the sound of passing cars). There are one or two great sandwich shops nearby, great for stocking up for a day's hiking or sightseeing. The house is exceptionally clean and well maintained, and seems to have been updated recently, with good bathrooms and lots of space (except for one tiny shower stall). The hosts were responsive and polite through email during our stay. We would return to this house.

Loved this house! It was very clean, maintained and supplied with everything you need. The owners were very easy to deal with as well. The location is perfect...in between everything you need to do in the area.
