This lovely spacious home has 2 large bedrooms and 1 smaller bedroom, with 2 full bathrooms. It also features air conditioning for those hot summer days, and a pellet stove (with furnace backup) for those chilly nights. Direct TV and WiFi internet access are available at the cottage. This cottage features an open, inviting floor plan with lots of windows. It has been completely renovated and updated. A beautiful sunroom off the dining area provides a peaceful place to relax.
Conveniently located a short drive from Bar Harbor's bustling downtown, this peaceful home sits along the bus route for the Island Explorer free shuttle buses. Leave your car behind, and hop on a bus for a free ride anywhere on Mount Desert Island and into Acadia National Park. Our cottage sits on a large private lot surrounded by oak trees, and is within walking distance of the ocean. Several popular campgrounds and lobster pounds are within 1 miles, and sea kayaking rentals are within a mile. Our home is within ten to fifteen minutes from each of the towns on Mt. Desert Island: Somesville, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. All of these towns have their own character, and offer their own unique blend of restaurants, sightseeing, whale watching, arts, community events, mountains for hiking, carriage roads for walking or biking, beaches, parks, lighthouses, sailing, and boat-filled harbors.
We are a contractor and a retired CNA. We are native Mainers, and one of us grew up right here in Bar Harbor! We have five children and many grandchildren, all living in Maine.
Rita and Tom Blair purchased this cottage in 1997
Although one of us grew up here, we both lived off of Mount Desert Island for many years. Buying this property gave us the opportunity to move back home to a place we love.
We love the quiet location of our home, close enough to Bar Harbor to access all that it has to offer, but far enough removed to provide us with a private, peaceful place to come home to at the end of the day. We also love that we can step outside and smell the fresh ocean air, and can hop on the free Island Explorer buses and get anywhere on the Island without taking a car.
The house is extremely well maintained and clean. It was the perfect setting for me and my two adult children having three beds and two baths. The location is excellent not far from the access road onto Mount Desert Island just off 102. It was very convenient to every place we wanted to go. The yard is very private and the cottage has all of the conveniences of being home. We enjoyed the grill on the back deck one night. I would highly recommend this rental. We hope to return next Labor Day weekend.
We loved our time at the cottage! The location is a winner for both privacy and convenience. It is well furnished and provided a wonderful home base during our MDI stay. Spacious, comfy, relaxing and quiet (the highway noise was never a problem). If we are ever able to return to MDI, this cottage would be at the top of our list.
Fantastic property in nice quiet location yet just a short drive from all major attractions. Owners were very friendly and helpful.
Let me first say that the cottage is much nicer and roomier than the pictures show. Our family of five (2 adults, 3 teens) found the place to be lovely. It was immaculate! The cottage is about 15 minutes to downtown Bar Harbor but there is really very little traffic. It was great coming "home" to relax and stretch out after a full day of hiking, biking, shopping and eating. Beats a cramped hotel room any day. It was also great to have the master bedroom and bathroom on the first floor away from the kids. Having a washer and dryer is also a big plus so you are not bringing home dirty and smelly hiking clothes. We were there this past summer during the hottest temperatures of the year (in the upper 80s) and the A/C units worked well to keep the place cool. There were also some fans in the room for additional circulation.
The owners, Tom and Rita were extremely helpful and replied to our emails promptly. They really wanted us to enjoy our stay. And that we did. Would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend others to stay here.
On our first trip to the Bar Harbor/Acadia area, this was the perfect base for our family (with 2 teenagers). The house was beautifully set in a wooded area off the road. The cottage was immaculate with all the needed amenities including linens. It was a short drive to Bar Harbor, Northeast, Southwest, and Seal Harbors. Very convenient to Acadia entrance for hiking and fishing (and viewing the most beautiful sunrise from Cadillac Mountain). Would definitely recommend this cottage for rental during your stay in the Bar Harbor area.
We stayed at the Oak Leaf Cottage at the end of June 2014. It is a lovely home! VERY clean and well stocked with most amenities. Quite convenient to most of Mount Desert Island. Internet service is great. Would definitely recommend for rental!
