About the property

Cottage, 3 Bedrooms,2 Baths (Sleeps 6) Family Friendly Home

This lovely spacious home has 2 large bedrooms and 1 smaller bedroom, with 2 full bathrooms. It also features air conditioning for those hot summer days, and a pellet stove (with furnace backup) for those chilly nights. Direct TV and WiFi internet access are available at the cottage. This cottage features an open, inviting floor plan with lots of windows. It has been completely renovated and updated. A beautiful sunroom off the dining area provides a peaceful place to relax.

Conveniently located a short drive from Bar Harbor's bustling downtown, this peaceful home sits along the bus route for the Island Explorer free shuttle buses. Leave your car behind, and hop on a bus for a free ride anywhere on Mount Desert Island and into Acadia National Park. Our cottage sits on a large private lot surrounded by oak trees, and is within walking distance of the ocean. Several popular campgrounds and lobster pounds are within 1 miles, and sea kayaking rentals are within a mile. Our home is within ten to fifteen minutes from each of the towns on Mt. Desert Island: Somesville, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, and Southwest Harbor. All of these towns have their own character, and offer their own unique blend of restaurants, sightseeing, whale watching, arts, community events, mountains for hiking, carriage roads for walking or biking, beaches, parks, lighthouses, sailing, and boat-filled harbors.

About Rita and Tom Blair

We are a contractor and a retired CNA. We are native Mainers, and one of us grew up right here in Bar Harbor! We have five children and many grandchildren, all living in Maine.

Rita and Tom Blair purchased this cottage in 1997

Why Rita and Tom Blair chose Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island

Although one of us grew up here, we both lived off of Mount Desert Island for many years. Buying this property gave us the opportunity to move back home to a place we love.

What makes this cottage unique

We love the quiet location of our home, close enough to Bar Harbor to access all that it has to offer, but far enough removed to provide us with a private, peaceful place to come home to at the end of the day. We also love that we can step outside and smell the fresh ocean air, and can hop on the free Island Explorer buses and get anywhere on the Island without taking a car.

Great place to stay

  • 5 of 5

Bright Oak Leaf Cottage is a lovely place to stay. I stayed there with my husband, two children and my parents and it was perfect for us. It close to the road, however screened by trees. There is a barbecue outside that we enjoyed using and a swing-seat and picnic table. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you could need and wonderful, large surfaces for working on. The bathrooms are very clean and the beds comfortable. I highly recommend Bright Oak Leaf Cottage.

Loved coming home to this place each day!

  • 5 of 5

This house was super clean and very spacious. I am very picky about rentals and we use homeaway a lot, but I was so pleasantly surprised when we walked into this home. What the others said about the pics not doing it justice was absolutely right. The layout and size of the rooms are very comfortable. It was extremely clean (and I am a clean freak). Very well equipped, found everything we needed. Location was perfect. - close to every area of MDI. There is a great lobster pound at the other end of the dirt road, we walked over for dinner one night and that was the best lobster roll I had the whole trip (and I had several!). Also the most reasonably priced! My favorite part of each day was coffe in the mornings on the lovely screened in sunroom. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Perfect Bar Harbor Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Bright Oak Leaf Cottage was a warm and inviting property! The cottage was very clean and had all we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. It was close enough to make trips to Acadia and the town of Bar Harbor more than once a day for sightseeing, hikes, shopping and meals at a variety of great restaurants. We also appreciated the ability to book for less than a full week. We would definitely recommend renting this property. Diane & Jim McMenamin
