My family of four enjoyed staying here and having privacy from the chaos of the rest of our relatives at the big house. We arrived to local coffee beans and a bottle of San Juan wine. So nice. Everything is there for you from shampoo, conditioner and soap to all the kitchen staples. There is an ironing board and iron now. There is a full size washer/ dryer which was really nice to have. There is no dishwasher, no big deal for us as we cooked at the big house. I would say that the loft ladder may be appropriate for kids older than 5? My nephew had a little bit of a hard time getting down when he went up to check it out. I cannot see how in the dark a child who needs to come down that ladder could do so safely. My "kids" 24 and 27 loved sleeping up there. Janet provided fans and there are lots of windows to open in the heat. Just remember the frig is dorm size, and I am not sure that bed is a queen, we think it's a double. Cute back covered porch off the bedroom, we left the door open at night, the windows do not open except in the bathroom in that room, be aware, the deer like to come and peek in!! Very very soft bed. We did not use the pull out. It is pitch dark at night, bring a lantern for walks. We loved the privacy, the orchard and Janet bringing our family fresh eggs. I am sure we are staying again next year.
Beautiful property on Mitchell Bay!! The owner Janet is so sweet and kind. Very peaceful deer roaming thru property and tons of fruit trees. Great place for relaxation.
Our first time to visit the San Juan's was wonderful. It was a great introduction and very peaceful. OUr kids enjoyed riding their bikes and being on the water.
We weren't quite sure what to expect when we arrived at this, well, estate. It's a gorgeous serious of custom building spread across a huge waterfront property. In addition to our small and charming cabin, there are a serious of buildings housing birds, goats, and chickens, as well as two larger homes (one of which is the owners'.)
In addition to bringing us eggs from their chickens to enjoy for breakfast, we were also offered use of their game room and rowboat and related items. We arrived to find a bag of coffee beans and a bottle of wine, all from the island. It was like staying at a boutique hotel, but one owned by a family member! Highly recommended.
Nestled on a small family estate, the cottage is a lovely place for a couple or small family to get away. The cottage is one of a group of dwellings in a park-like setting: giant willow, pond, woods, wandering deer. Lots of light in the main dwelling area. It's quiet and peaceful and convenient to Roche Harbor. The family that owns the estate is friendly and helpful. The cottage was clean and well-maintained. The new barbecue was quite handy. The only down side was the temperature: the cottage gets pretty warm when the temperature tops 80 degrees.
Very accurately described. The house was clean and ready for us when we arrived. The owner gave us a quick tour and set us about. Plenty of firewood and starter and a capable wood stove. Loved it.
Enjoyed the apple, pear and peach trees to walk under. Will be excellent at harvest time.
My 5 and 2 year old grand son's had plenty of space to run barefoot on the close cropped lawn. I even took off my shoes for a cool stroll on the moist and comforting lawn. How relaxing. I should have brought along a frizbee or two. Yard is big enough for throwing a football or baseball or whatever. They had to check out the aviary each day. The boys loved to go down to the dock and check out the shells on the mud flats. I am thinking there may very well be some clams in those flats and a possible oyster or two. Had I thought to take along my boots I would have had a great time walking the mud flats searching for animal and plant life. One grand son found a couple of small crabs. Wish I had time to take the row boat out.
There were some very nice outdoor speakers offering some nice music as you strolled around the grounds.
Some deer wandered the grounds in the evening and mornings. My 5 year old grandson spotted one in the moonlight and was really excited to try and sneak on it.
The owners were always ready to answer any questions we might have had.
We traveled to Roche Harbor to see the sights and from there down to the American Camp trying to drive the coast line as much as possible. Spotted whales from the road at one point as we drove to the light house on the South East point. Took the San Juan Excursion boat on a whale watching tour. We saw many Orca's and a Minke whale and some seals and eagles. Oh, my daughter and wife spotted a fox at the American Camp. Wonderful wildlife.
It was great to open the doors to the deck and let the cool breeze flow through the house. It expanded the living area out or the deck into the living. Either way it as pretty neat. I was at first curious of the four sets of French doors but soon realized how they could be used to open things up if needed.
All in all we had a wonderful time and will come back as soon as we can.
