We named our home Sanctuary By the Sea because it is truly a haven to relax and rejuvenate. Step away from your everyday stresses and live life as it was meant to be.
Gaze at the ocean with views for miles and miles of the dramatic Northern California coastline. Watch the wildlife—pelicans, Canadian geese, even a family of 3 bald eagles as they soar. Gray whales migrate past the cove and you have a front-row seat.
Enjoy our beautiful oceanfront home with panoramic whitewater views from virtually every room in the house. The home sits on over an acre in the exclusive gated community of Pacific Reefs in Albion. You will say “WOW” when you walk into the beautiful home and look out the window at the crashing waves. The home is open, bright and quiet—only the sound of the waves can be heard.
Master bedroom suite has spectacular whitewater views. There is a king bed with 600 thread count linen. Master bathroom has granite countertop and luxurious thick towels. 2nd bedroom has ocean views and a queen bed with luxurious linens. Large 3rd bedroom has full and twin beds. Linen for the beds and 1 set of towels per guest are provided at no additional charge.
Watch the waves crash while sitting in the warm and inviting living room with wood-burning stove. Vaulted ceilings create a spacious room. Large picture windows practically bring the outdoors in. Beautifully appointed with leather furniture. 37” TV with satellite service, DVD player, CD player and Bose & Definitive speakers.
Large dining table with comfortable seating for 8. Enjoy your meals while watching the ocean views from huge windows on 3 walls.
Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher, electric glass cooktop, microwave oven, toaster oven, icemaker and blender. Coffee grinder, coffee maker and electric tea kettle also provided.
2 spacious decks--one has a gas grill and dining area and the other has a private hot tub offering dramatic ocean views.
Why cook when there are 2 gourmet restaurants within a 5-minute drive. The Ledford House is just over the bridge (a 2-minute drive) and offers a nightly bistro dinner featuring 3 courses. Albion River Inn is just a few minutes beyond Ledford House and offers Happy Hour with wines and complimentary appetizers. We are just 7 miles south of Mendocino which has even more dining options.
Come see for yourself what you’ve been missing all your life. You’ll be back again and again.
This is a completely non-smoking property, inside and out. No pets allowed.
Since we are on septic and well, we can accommodate a maximum of 7 guests. All visitors, even those who visit during the day, are considered guests.
2 nights minimum stay. Holidays & special events require 3 night minimum.
We’re Janet & Flint. Although we first met in college, we went in separate directions to pursue our individual life dreams after graduation. As fate would have it, 8 years later we reconnected again in the Bay Area as we each started our careers. The timing and circumstances were apparently right, and we have been together ever since, first living in Silicon Valley and then relocating in 2010 to Santa Rosa, California.
Flint purchased this house in 2010
We had been visiting the Mendocino coast for years. When we moved to Santa Rosa, we realized that we were close enough to Mendocino to enjoy a place of our own…. a Sanctuary By the Sea. We knew this was the right property as soon as we walked in the front door and saw the spectacular oceanfront views of Whitesboro Bay. The unobstructed whitewater and coast views are the ultimate in relaxation, especially from the private hot tub. We love spending time at the Sanctuary but our work schedules keep us from visiting as much as we would like. We decided to start sharing the Sanctuary with VRBO guests.
Sanctuary By the Sea has the unique blend of seclusion and privacy (private community with locked gate), yet very close to the diverse activities of the Mendocino coast. Just 7 miles north is the quaint village of Mendocino, with world-class restaurants and shopping. We are close to the wine tasting region of Anderson Valley as well as the unspoiled beauty of hiking, kayaking, canoeing and diving in several nearby state parks. There is a sand beach just 5 minutes away. Or, just simply relax… at the Sanctuary By the Sea.
We recently visited Sanctuary by the Sea with a group of friends and had an amazing stay. The location was perfect with a large open space in front of the house leading to the bluffs overlooking the ocean. The house was very well maintained and fully stocked with everything we needed. The large living room and kitchen area made it easy and comfortable for our group to relax together. The location was ideal, being a short drive from Mendocino and easily accessible from Hwy 1.
We will be back and would highly recommend this house for others who enjoy the coast!
The view is amazing. The house is very clean & comfortable especially the king size bed. Good instructions on how to use the keyless entry, even this low tech person figured it out. Great kitchen very well equipped. User friendly BBQ w/ tools. Located very close to several wonderful restaurants. Can't wait to go back.
Beautiful location, view, home. Thanks to the owner for having a mini-library, cds, cd player, iHome, mini-telescope, etc. Highly recommend this place.
Blankets need to be cleaner. This was the only minor issue I observed. Thanks.
The views are wonderful and the area is gated. You do feel safe here. Its an older home with not many upgrades, but still clean and well kept. The wifi really works well in the living room, dinning room and kitchen. I tried to use my jambox speaker in the bathroom and could not get a good enough signal, so my showers were silent. There is a window you can open and hear the surf. The bed in the master is very comfortable ! the linens are equally nice.
This is a good area to make day trips, we went out to Fort Bragg and back without any trouble, lots to do there. There is a grocery store in Mendocino Village that has everything you need and the prices are fair. If you drive to the village there is a ocean view point you can drive out to, we had 5 bars of cellular service there.
Because we were only two people renting this home everything in the house was locked except the master and the mud room off the back of the house. Virtually every door had a lock on it. We had only 2 towels, two hand towels and two wash cloths for our 3 night stay and could not locate another towel at all so we hung them in the dining room to dry each day. This was my biggest disappointment. There is a need for a rubber mat in the tub of the master bath, it is very slippery, we used one of our hand towels on the floor of the tub and it worked well. The shower head looks awfully old, but give it a chance its really quite nice.
We had a wonderful 4 day stay at "Sanctuary by the Sea". The home was clean and comfortable with everything we needed. The views, from the living and dining areas, were spectacular! We were able to see whales every morning and enjoyed the sunset, from the hot tub, in the evening. The location, in Albion, was close, and convenient, to all of the places we wanted to go. Thank you, to the owners, for sharing your home by the sea!
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights and really enjoyed it but there were a few things that would have enhanced our stay even more. There needs to be some furniture on the back porch so you can enjoy the wonderful ocean view and have a place to sit while enjoying a glass of wine or cup of coffee. We would've liked a TV in the master Bedroom and that old tube TV in the living room needs to be updated. The kitchen is great, there are more pots, pans, dishes, cooking utensils and kitchen gadgets then anywhere I've ever seen. The BBQ is really nice too, looks almost new and works great. As far as styling goes it's not bad but could use some updating. Just simple things like light fixtures and interior doors that make it look dated. A ceiling fan in the master BR would be nice for improving ventilation too.
The neighborhood was really nice and quiet and it was a great relaxing weekend for us, we really enjoyed the much needed down time.
Enjoy wine tasting in Anderson Valley, hiking in the Navarro Rivers Redwood forests, driving scenic Highway 1, touring picturesque Mendocino village, dining at world-class restaurants or simply relaxing with the ocean at your doorstep.
