Riverside Retreat was built in 2005 and was our residence until 2012. We are making it available for others to enjoy. It sits on a bluff directly on the Mountain Fork River which is a very quiet river with beautiful rock formations on the property. We now live back in Mena to be closer to family.

It is such a peaceful, relaxing place to be. You'll feel it as soon as you turn off the highway and begin the path down the tree-lined county road. At the top of our driveway, there is a view of Rich Mountain. On a clear night, you can see the lights of the lodge. At the bottom of the driveway awaits your peaceful getaway - surrounded by trees and overlooking a gorgeous section of the Mountain Fork River. On the back deck, you are among the treetops that rise from the bluff. The cabin was built to provide amenities for a romantic couples getaway or honeymoon but will sleep a family of four.
Imaculate & clean cabin new to the rental market in 2012, located on a bluff directly overlooking the Mountain Fork River. Beautiful view from 12’ x 32’ deck on back of cabin plus a lower deck by river with built-in bench. All wood interior trimmed in cedar w/tile & laminate flooring - no carpet. Access to river for canoeing or fishing. We have a canoe, paddles, & life jackets available for use at no additional charge.
Two-person jacuzzi tub.
Two-sided fireplace (opens to living area and bedroom).
We cannot thank you enough for allowing us to enjoy your cabin. We leave here relaxed and well rested. :)
The Riverside Retreat was all it was advertised to be - and more. From the location, to the scenery, to the solitude, to the amenities, all the way to the owners of the property, our five days there exceeded our expectations. The cabin itself was immaculate and had virtually any item we needed for our stay. We did venture into Mena a few times for things to grill, for eating out a couple of times, and for visits to some of the local antique shops. Very much like the small communities we grew up in, we found the people very friendly and accommodating. Our one planned excursion into the mountains was to follow the Talimena Scenic Drive up to the Queen Wilhelmina State Park. It was a beautiful drive, and the scenery up there was gorgeous. The food was exceptional, also.
Still, the highlights of our trip were the hours of peace and quiet away from the stresses of everyday life. The view from the cabin, overlooking the river, was so calming. We were visited daily only by the two ducks (Fred and Ethel) performing flight takeoffs and landings... the two squirrels (Lucy and Desi) who showed off hopping from branch to branch... the group of large birds (the Jackson 5) performing their afternoon maneuvers... and, finally, the turtle (I chose not to name him as he appeared to be mocking my poor fishing skills).
This relaxing getaway is provided by two people who obviously care about providing a memorable stay to those lucky enough to find out about their property. We are grateful for the personal touches provided by Tim and Tammy. (Leaving there was almost "unBEARable." :) )
It was just what we needed... to feel like we were at home - away from home.
We look forward to our next stay there.

My husband and I went for our 6th anniversary/babymoon. We canoed, swam in the river, and went fishing. We loved eating on the screened-in porch, turning on the fireplace, and enjoying the jacuzzi tub. The cabin was exceptionally clean. We went into town (Mena) to eat one night at Stache's cookery, and the food was great! This is a great place to get away from distractions, reflect on life, and focus on your loved ones.
My wife and I loved our experience at this secluded getaway hotspot. The cabin was perfect! It had up to date appliances, a charcoal grill, and all of the amenities that anyone would need to relax in comfort. The back porch overlooks the Mtn. Fork river, which provided beautiful scenery. This is a place that we will definitely visit again!
This was our second time spending a long weekend on this beautiful property and it was just as perfect as it was the first time. The husband got to spend time outside and I got to do some sleeping and TV watching bingeing and resting in general. We love the peace and quiet of this cabin and its location. Will definitively come back again for a third stay soon.
The owner was quite helpful about directions and the amenities described are spot on. The cabin was furnished with everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We canoed up river about 4 miles and still did not see or hear another person. Peaceful and relaxing, away from the stresses of normal life. Will be going back for another stay here!
We loved our stay. The property is gorgeous and the owners were so awesome to work with. We were glad we brought everything we needed, we did not want to leave. All the amenities were great, inside and out! We can't wait to visit in the spring!
