Beautifully restored German 1860s homestead nestled in the Texas Hill Country. Perfect for families - 3-house compound on 450 gorgeous acres. Owned and decorated by top San Antonio designer, this home has been published for it interior integrity and beauty. Poco A Poco has hosted many VIPs; a former Texas Governor, actors, San Antonio business tycoons and many admiring socialites. Luke Perry stayed here when he was filming 8 Seconds. The main house has a full kitchen (incredibly well-stocked) with a cozy living room and fireplace, a wonderful spot for playing games, reading books or just visiting, a lovely dining room with seating for up to 8 people with attaching sitting area. There is a master bedroom and bathroom with tub. Upstairs is a kid room with 5 twin beds. There is a shared bathroom with shower and a lovely master with king. Adjacent to the main house is the blue room – it is a little house with 2 full beds and a bath with shower. There is another house we call the smokehouse (it was originally truly a smokehouse). It has a full kitchen, laundry room, master with a queen and bath with vanity, tub/shower. There is a crib in this house and a sofa in this house that would be perfect for a child. We have a lovely pool, playground, bikes. We are minutes to upscale grocery store, shopping, Boerne/Bulverde restaurants and antique stores. 25 minutes to San Antonio. We are 3 miles to Guadalupe State Park. Also a few miles to Anhalt, a dancehall first established in 1887.
Our grandparents bought and began preserving this property in 1950. Our mother, a well-renowned interior designer from San Antonio has further updated it and showered it with love and gorgeous attention to detail.
margaret walker purchased this estate in 1950
We've celebrated birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, yearly cousin's camp, a wedding, many a dinner party at our family ranch. Girl's weekends, boy's weekends! Picnics, dinners under the stars. The prettiest sunsets in Texas. We have beautifully groomed grounds. You could spend the whole day lounging by the pool. Once you get here you never want to leave. It is an enclave of relaxation and tranquility. It is simply good for you soul!
It is a decorator's paradise with antiques, intricate textured upholstery, the most comfortable beds, pillows, (all allergen free). Courtney has decorated houses all over the world from London to Aspen to Cabo. Her ranch showcases some of our favorite finds. You could spend the whole day just enjoying her treasures peppered throughout the houses. It's quirky and quaint - most of all comfortable and cozy!
We booked Poco A Poco for a family celebration and couldn't be more pleased. The home and its surroundings are beautiful and comfortable. The owners have obviously been very careful in their restoration and maintenance of a very old homeplace. We did a lot of cooking and the facilities are perfect for preparing large family meals. Everything you need is there. Above all, its just a peaceful, gorgeous place and I hope to go again.
This was my first experience renting a rental home and I must say it was a great one!! The home is beautiful and very comfortable! Everyone loved the home!! It is also a great location, close to main hwy 281, near HEB Grocery store and several shops.
The owner and the caretaker are the nicest and most accommodating people, making it extremely easy and pleasant experience!
I definitely recommend this rental home and l look forward to renting again!!
We have such a great time at this property. I only wished we could have stayed longer to enjoy it more!
Poco a poco is beautifully furnished and decorated, I could have spent hours looking at everything. Thank you again!
It's been nearly a week since we stayed at Poco-a-Poco. This allowed me to get back to reality and clear my mind to write an objective review. However, I've been conflicted between selfishness and obligation. Obviously, the latter won out, it wouldn't be fair to the owner if I didn't. My reason for not doing so is that I don't want this gem to get so popular that it would take months for me to go back. I want to be able to get away at a moment's notice even if it is a dream floating in my head. Why are you still reading this review? If you need more convincing, here goes. You may pass it once or twice because it's not so obvious but that's part of it: the property is tucked away making you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere. It's quiet from civilized noise, it's as dark in the night as you want it to be. Sure, the modern amenities are there for your disposal, entwined with charm and creature comforts. The accommodations allow for privacy for multiple families. From the pool to the game room to the expanse of the ranch itself, there's plenty to do and explore. But, if you just need a place to relax, I would suggest sitting under the palapa with your favorite beverage. Poco-a-Poco offers a great escape and makes time slow down, as the name suggests.
Poco a poco is a treasure. This place delights all your senses from the opalescent door knobs to the woody fire smell. There is no drywall, it is all stone and wood, metal and glass. There is nothing "reproduction " about it either. Every nook and cranny has been carefully curated . The family is exceedingly gracious to allow guests to behold the heirlooms and spatial talent exhibited in every building. The series of cottages is exhilarating to explore. The real magic is how it seems so timeless yet so comfortable. You'll be reminded of your grandmother's home and at the same time really disappointed that your grandmother couldn't pull off such style and grace in her abode. My children adore this property and we affectionately refer to it as "the ranch". My husband and I hope to stay alone sometime and drink in all the collections while taking notes on how to achieve such balance, simplicity, elegance, and comfort in our design efforts.
Family reunion with a number of small children and 10 adults. The old houses were tastefully decorated and very comfortable. We were there in an unusually hot august, but the pool was refreshing, and the theme parks, Six Flags and Sea World, all had water attractions that kept us cool. The old German town of Boerne was only 15 minutes away, and had some great places to eat. The little kids loved feeding the horses apples, and the buffalo and deer were fun to see when coming home in the evening. All in all, a great place to relax and connect with the "old Texas." Thanks
Only 26 miles from San Antonio airport, beautiful, convenient hill country spot, great springboard for exploring San Antonio and the hill country. 38 miles to SeaWorld, 30 miles to Alamo, 26 miles to Schlitterbahn, 20 miles to Natural Bridge Caverns, 1.5 hrs to Fredericksburg and Enchanted Rock, 450 acres to explore, wonderful patio, grounds for relaxing, swimming, playground, badminton court, antiquing in Boerne
