McGaheysville Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cabin, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Full Baths (Sleeps 6-10)

This classic cabin is on a beautiful wooded lot overlooking a creek and the upper mountain golf course, close to everything, and with winter views of the slopes. The location within the resort is ideal.

The cabin is a great space for two families, small groups, and kids of all ages.

The cabin features three levels of living space, four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, a well-appointed kitchen, a rec room with 42' flat screen and Apple TV, a playroom for the kids, a flat driveway (a luxury around here in the winter), and a large wrap-around deck.

The main level has an open floor plan, spacious great room, vaulted ceilings, exposed wood beams, and plenty of windows with mountain views from everywhere. It's a classic A-frame style decked out with modern furniture and fixtures, a 42-inch flat-screen TV, and blue-ray DVD player (Netflix streaming included). The great room opens to the kitchen, which includes stainless steel appliances and a large granite island w/ 3-seat bar. The main level also includes two bedrooms (queen and 2-twin), and a full bathroom.

The upper-level loft is a comfortable and private third bedroom (master/king) and full bathroom.

The finished lower level includes a small bedroom with beautiful custom built-in twin bunk beds, a spacious rec/family room with a futon (double bed equivalent), club chairs, a 42-inch flat-screen TV, Apple TV (Netflix streaming included), an air hockey table, a full bathroom, and a playroom. Read our reviews. The kids love this space!

- For the kids -

Every vacation home has a few board games and a deck of cards (this home is no exception), but we know how excited our own kids are when they find something new... so our playroom is stocked with blocks, dinosaurs, cars, puzzles, books, crayons... etc. So there is plenty to keep even the little ones entertained on a rainy day. We also have an assortment of gear (pack and play, foot stools, booster seat, etc.) to lighten your load and make your stay more comfortable. Please ask if you have questions about the availability of any specific items.

- Amenities -

We designed and furnished this cabin with our own family in mind. We love the outdoors and open spaces, and we love the look (from the outside) of a classic rustic cabin... But inside we wanted CLEAN (our home ALWAYS will be) and we wanted modern decor and amenities. We offer high speed wireless internet access, two flat-screens TVs, blue-ray/DVD player, Apple TV (Netflix streaming included), and a fully stocked kitchen for all your culinary needs.

- Things to do -

We're located near the top of the Massanutten Resort, not more than five minutes from all resort activities including the ski slope, indoor/outdoor water park, year-round tubing, two golf courses, go-karts, mini-golf, ice skating (seasonal), horseback riding, fishing ponds, playgrounds, and fantastic hiking. We have also purchased summer passes to the mountain-top outdoor heated pool for all of our guests. And of course, you can venture outside the resort to the nearby Shenandoah National Park, Shenandoah River, Luray Caverns, local wineries, lavender farm... etc. Options for outdoor entertainment in The Valley are endless.

- We make it easy -

We always provide our guests with linens and towels, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, and other cleaners. We also provide starter sets of paper products like paper towels and toilet paper. Although we don't inventory other items, some essentials often stay stocked such as assorted spices, cooking oil, sweeteners… etc.

Just pack your clothes, a little food and drink, and your family and friends... and we'll always provide you with a great place to stay for your Massanutten vacation.

About Matt Carrier

We met at James Madison and live in Northern Virginia with our three children. We volunteer at school, church, and with youth sports. We spend as little time as possible waiting in Tyson's Corner traffic.

We started coming back to the valley a few years ago and found Massanutten to be the perfect weekend vacation spot for our family. This was something that I definitely did not anticipate as a ski instructor here in 1999.

We were very excited to purchase this home in the Summer of 2012, and have had fun preparing a great space to share with our friends and our guests.

Why Matt Carrier chose Shenandoah Valley

We love the activities that Massanutten Resort provides. We really like the look and feel of this home, the layout is great for our family and friends, and the location in the resort is perfect!

What makes this cabin unique

The views, large flat driveway, and our playroom equipped with enough goodies for our youngest guests.

Great Place!

  • 4 of 5

The house was clean, comfortable, well-located and just great to stay in. Everything was easy to find, everything worked, and it was well stocked.

The only down side was that we were told the pool was part of the rental and on the day we wanted to stay on Massanutten the pool was closed and no other pool on the facility would allow us in. We were very disappointed about this because we wanted to use the pool. So, we changed our schedule and went to the waterpark.

Nonetheless, this doesn't take away from how nice the house is.

Still the best

  • 5 of 5

This is the fourth time my wife and I have stayed in this cabin, either with one or two other couples. The location and facilities are outstanding. The owner was nice enough to order spectacular weather for us (I'm sure he wishes he could really do this!). As always, the cabin was spotless and provided everything we needed to have a great time. While we husbands played golf for two days, our wives went off and "did their thing." There is so much to do within a short distance of the cabin, that there's something for everyone. I look forward to returning, knowing that each visit here will be relaxing and very enjoyable.

It might be alittle far from JMU, But it is well worth It!

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time we have rented a place in Massanutten while visiting our daughter. Let me assure you this home was even better than I thought it would be. It's a large enough home for 8 comfortably. The beds were pretty comfortable, new appliances, nicely decorated, beautiful outside deck. We even stopped at the gas station at the entrance of the resort and bought Valleys fried chicken! Delicious! If you are even thinking about renting a place for parents weekend or graduation, I suggest you rent this place ASAP! It will be gone before you know it!

Cute and centrally located cabin

  • 3 of 5

The best part about the cabin is the location! It is very close to all of the winter sports and the only sit down restaurant on the resort. The cabin is spacious and very kid friendly. Our 5 year old absolutely loved the basement playroom and all of the toys. The view from the deck is beautiful and I can imagine it would be wonderful in the spring and summer as well.

I'm giving the cabin 3 stars because the property description is a tad misleading in that they purport to have everything you need with the exception of food and drink; however, we quickly realized there were only enough paper products (toilet paper/paper towels) to get you through one night. The cabin also does not have cable TV and seeing that we booked over Super bowl weekend, you can imagine our disappointment (at least the men). We were able to tune in on the basement TV only after spending a lengthy amount of time, out of our short stay, trying to learn how to use the Apple TV. There was no cable on the living room TV for the entire stay. Lastly, considering the hefty cleaning fee for a less than 48 hour stay, we were rather shocked by the extensive cleaning/check-out requirements, which included stripping the beds, starting a load of towels, sweeping the floors, emptying all of the trash/transporting it to the dumpster located at least a mile from the property etc. When paying a costly cleaning fee, I don't expect to have to clean before I leave.

Overall, it is a nice cabin and we enjoyed our stay. Massanutten is a wonderful resort with tons to do, this was our third time visiting and we will definitely return.

Owner's Response: I'm glad that your family enjoyed the house and the area and that your son in particular liked the setup. We aim to please our youngest guests! It's definitely a beautiful spot and we would love to have you back sometime. I'm also glad that you called so that we were able to get the Super Bowl on right away thru our CBSsports channel. I'm always happy to help. For future renters: 1) Our listing doesn't state that we have cable since we don't have a traditional cable box and don't want to mislead. We found that the multiple remotes and devices and unfamiliar channel guides actually made things more difficult for our guests. Our new solution was to use our AppleTV as a set top box. All channels include historical content and programming, and most include live TV as well. Our Netflix account also stays logged in, and the result is LOTS of content through one interface. Directions are on our house info sheet. 2) We expect our cleaning crew to do a really good job of taking care of the house. They do a deep cleaning and spend a lot of time making beds since we provide full linen service. We do expect our guests to clean up after themselves and kindly ask that you start one load of towels to save us some time (it's very helpful when we have larger groups on a same day turnaround). I do understand that $125 is a high price for smaller groups that feel like they don't use the whole space... and I am often able to be flexible with those groups in other ways (later checkout times so that you can enjoy more of your Sunday, for example). Please just ask and I'll always do what I can to accommodate. 3) We always provide our guests with linens and towels, dish soap, hand soap, laundry detergent, and other cleaners. We also provide starter sets of paper products like paper towels and toilet paper. Although we don't inventory other items, many essentials often stay stocked such as assorted spices, cooking oil, sweeteners… etc. It may not get you thru an entire long weekend, but our goal is to keep you from having to run to the store for these items right away.

Well-appointed, roomy cabin

  • 4 of 5

I would have given a 5-Star rating, had not the owner decided to deduct $85.00 from my deposit for supposed "marks on the walls" and a trash bag with a piece of paper inside. I treated his property as I would treat my own. Totally bogus.

I will say that our party consisted of two adults and four teenagers, so there's plenty of room. The property was clean and well maintained and the description regarding location and amenities was accurate. We enjoyed being so close to all the activities in Massanutten.

perfect fall getaway

  • 5 of 5

Three couples spent 3 days in this immaculate house overlooking the golf course. We prepared a few elaborate meals, enjoyed wine on the deck, hiked, and visited the JMU arboretum and Cross Keys Winery. The husbands enjoyed both the Heritage and Lakeview golf courses. We'll bring grandchildren next time - the rec room toys are great: BRIO trains, DUPLO table and blocks, wooden puzzles and floor puzzles, gears, dinosaurs, and games for preschool to adult. We'll definitely be back!
