Why J Kelly Scherer chose Asheville Area

My mountain cabin is a rare find and one that I plan to keep for many years of enjoyment. The cabin is gorgeous, immaculate, serene, and lacks for nothing. It is located just outside of Asheville, NC, one of America's coolest towns. While just 10 miles from downtown, it sits on a mountainside that looks out across multiple ridges of mountains and valleys dotted with farmland and estates. It has the best of all worlds - private in its location, and close to everything that Asheville has to offer!

What makes this cabin unique

The mountain cabin is at the end of a private road, perched high on a mountainside, with unobstructed year-round views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Its open floor plan and peaceful setting make it perfect for relaxing and enjoying the beauty of the Blue Ridge. The house is immaculately clean and tidy.

The cabin is perfectly situated for exploring Asheville and WNC!

The cabin is only 11 miles from Pack Square in the very center of Asheville. The picturesque drive into town takes 15 minutes on main roads.

The cabin sits in the middle of hundreds of world class hiking and biking trails. All are an easy 30 to 60 minutes' drive away, door to trailhead. The Appalachian Trail at Hot Springs is 35 minutes. Great Smoky Mountains National Park; Shining Rock Wilderness, Mills River, Linville Gorge, Mt. Mitchell, Bent Creek, Cold Mountain, etc. are all 40 minutes. The Blue Ridge Parkway is 25 minutes and there are multiple trails off it.

River rafting/tubing/ kayaking, zip lining, rock climbing, fishing and golfing are 30 minutes or less. Downhill skiing, snowboarding and tubing is 35 miles from the cabin.

The Biltmore Estate is only 25 minutes away. Stay one week and receive a free day-pass to Biltmore! Waynesville is 25 minutes. And, Cherokee is 45 minutes.

Being just outside of Asheville allows you to feel away from it all but also be right in the middle of everything.

Nice place, beautiful view, we really enjoyed it.

  • 4 of 5

My only complaint was the limited television channels. We are sports fans and ESPN is usually a must for us.

One other suggestion would be to update the pots and pans. We like to cook and found the cookware to be "overused".

Otherwise, Kelly was very helpful and easily accessible. We would stay again!!!

Owner's Response: I work hard to make certain that my cabin lives up to its description. If a guest's complaint is deserved, I will own it. But this complaint and rating - while still very good - is disappointing because my listing clearly describes the tv situation. Even if they happened to not read it and, if ESPN truly was a "must", it's hard to understand why this guest did not ask about it in the lengthy conversation we had prior to booking where he requested and was granted a special discounted nightly rate and a waived pet fee.

Bring some great coffee...the early morning long views from the porch with the hawks soaring at eye level is an absolutely fabulous expirence...only rivaled by the stars at night from the hot tub!

We went with another couple for a long weekend...cabin was a perfect choice!

Private enough to feel like you were away from it all but close to town to enjoy all that Asheville has to offer...we are already planning of next adventure there.

Leicaster Home Xmas

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the property and area very much. The owner was very responsive. We even had a question Christmas Eve around dinnertime and he called us back right away and handled everything. My only comment is that the driveway is very steep and long (I'm not used to mountain driveways). I would recommend getting to the home before it gets dark to maneuver the first time up.

A little slice of cabin heaven with long range views and complete privacy

  • 5 of 5

This lovely cabin is situated at the end of a winding one lane road through the woods. It's far enough outside of town to feel like you're truly "away from it all" but close enough that you can get an uber!

With three lovely bedrooms and two full bathrooms, it is an ideal cabin for a family or a few couples to enjoy some time away. There's a nice dining table with seating for 6 and a cozy living room with a gas fireplace, large tv, and lots of comfy seating! We loved beginning and ending our days around the fireplace!

The kitchen was well stocked with excellent utensils, knives, dishes, pots, pans, spices, etc! Even grilling utensils were provided. Additionally, the homeowner has provided some excellent coffee table books, games, tons of dvds, and even a fabulous little guide to waterfall hikes in the region.

The deck has a fantastic gate which allows you to latch it fully open so it's out of your way for loading/unloading your vehicles, or you can latch it closed to contain kids/dogs! Our dog loved running around on the deck and sniffing around in the woods! And though we didn't have a chance to use it, there is a full sized hot tub on the deck as well as a small outdoor fire chimney. Perhaps best of all, though, was the night sky! Being from the Atlanta area, stars get drowned out by all the light pollution. But at this cabin the stars were phenomenal! Despite the cold, I could've stayed out there all night cuddled up with my sweetie star gazing. Just incredible!

We spent a wonderful day at Biltmore touring the home and property, tasting wines at the winery, and enjoying a fantastic dinner on property. It was beautiful all decorated for Christmas. Our other full day we spent exploring downtown Asheville's awesome breweries and eateries. Don't leave your pooch behind! This is a very dog friendly city and our guy got lots of pets and affection from fellow tourists and locals alike. He even got some treats at a few places. Dogs are welcome on must patios in Asheville and even invited inside at breweries which do not also serve food. He had as much fun as we did!

All-in-all this was an A+ rental, a fabulous weekend, and we can't wait to come back in the spring! Thank you Kelly for allowing us to enjoy your little slice of cabin heaven!
