River's Edge is the perfect house for couples or small families looking for a quiet getaway. There is plenty to do at the cabin or within a 15 minute drive. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 full, 1 queen, 1 full), 2 full baths, gas grill, and a covered deck overlooking the river. There is a fire pit overlooking the river for quiet evening campfires. A canoe, 2 kayaks, and tubes are also available for fun in the river. We prefer no more than 4 responsible adults or a family of 6. Although for most guests it isn't an issue, please note that the yard does slope down to the river.
My husband I are both teachers who moved to Virginia from Maryland about 11 years ago.
Jeff and Lori Perry purchased this house in 2000
We love the quiet and beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. We were fortunate enough to find this property right on the river where we could build our own cabin. Nothing beats having the Shenandoah River right out your front door.
We can swim, fish, and canoe right from the house. Evening campfires overlooking the river are the perfect way to spend an evening after a day in the water. There is plenty to do without leaving the house.
We really enjoyed our stay at rivers edge! The cabin was nice an clean an we had plenty of room! We had fun kayaking down the river an usin the tubes also! You can sit on the front porch an see an hear the river. We all had a great time an if we get a chance will be back!
We had a wonderful time here during the memorial day weekend. The home was exactly as was listed and we enjoyed the grounds, river and the house. Had a great relaxing time. Hope to come back again!
Had a wonderful time at River's Edge cabin. Perfect getaway for family of 6. Plenty to do for young kids: tubing, kayaking, fishing, etc and plenty to do for adults: fishing, canoeing, bonfire. Lori and Jeff have the perfect getaway. Thanks for a great extended weekend. Hoping to plan another get away next summer! ~ Norma & Larry
We had a delightful time at river's edge, right along the Shenandoah River. There were trails to hike, which were peaceful and exciting. We even saw bear cubs! We enjoyed restaurants in Luray, traveled on Skyline Drive and road our canoe down the Shenandoah river. We saw osprey and blue heron and a bald eagle. We played games and enjoyed putting together a puzzle.
We really enjoyed our stay at River's Edge. The rooms and amenities were clean and pleasant, exactly as described. The view from the porch was the perfect way to start our day and sitting down by the river around the fire pit with family was the perfect ending to our day. Lots of activities in the area, we went kayaking on the river, did the zip line at Shenandoah National Park, we girls went to a few antique shops in town and my husband and I even got in some wine tasting. It was great to get away and relax, knowing if we needed anything Jeff and Lori were nearby.
We had a nice stay. The location is ideal but the slope/steep grade to the river is difficult to navigate and if you are looking to relax riverside, be aware that water access is only available by navigating the steep slope. The house's amenities are suitable but tired. The gas grill is need of replacing as the cooking grates have all but deteriorated. The kitchen is very well stocked but if you are a serious chef you may want to consider bringing you own knives and favorite pots/pans. The futon used as a couch in the living room area is not very comfortable seating for relaxing at the end of the day. We were quite surprised to find that we were expected to clean the facility prior to leaving, down to dusting and cleaning toilets. I would have preferred to know this up front and would have asked that an additional cleaning fee be added as I tend to prefer not to clean to this degree on my vacation. While the house was clean by many standards it was evident that the dusting and toilet cleaning were not done by the prior guests. Still a good value but knowing this up front would have been helpful.
River's edge cabin is located just 5 miles north of luray off of route 340 in page county, Virginia. Just walk across the yard to enjoy water activities such as canoeing, kayaking, tubing, swimming, and fishing in the Shenandoah river. There are many options for day activities including exploring luray caverns, hiking in Shenandoah national park, taking a scenic drive on skyline drive, and visiting local wineries and civil war battlefields. Lake arrowhead, only 20 minutes away, has a sandy beach for swimming. Other nearby activities include zip lining and horseback riding. In the evening, enjoy cooking hotdogs and smores on the outdoor fire pit. In the winter months, Bryce and massanutten ski resorts are about an hour away.
