Overview

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom Cabin On The South Fork Of The Shenandoah River.

River's Edge is the perfect house for couples or small families looking for a quiet getaway. There is plenty to do at the cabin or within a 15 minute drive. The cabin has a fully equipped kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 full, 1 queen, 1 full), 2 full baths, gas grill, and a covered deck overlooking the river. There is a fire pit overlooking the river for quiet evening campfires. A canoe, 2 kayaks, and tubes are also available for fun in the river. We prefer no more than 4 responsible adults or a family of 6. Although for most guests it isn't an issue, please note that the yard does slope down to the river.

About Jeff and Lori Perry

My husband I are both teachers who moved to Virginia from Maryland about 11 years ago.

Jeff and Lori Perry purchased this house in 2000

Why Jeff and Lori Perry chose Rileyville

We love the quiet and beauty of the Shenandoah Valley. We were fortunate enough to find this property right on the river where we could build our own cabin. Nothing beats having the Shenandoah River right out your front door.

What makes this house unique

We can swim, fish, and canoe right from the house. Evening campfires overlooking the river are the perfect way to spend an evening after a day in the water. There is plenty to do without leaving the house.

Great house....great location

  • 5 of 5

My family had a fantastic time on a short 3 night stay. The house was large enough to comfortably sleep our 9 (we are fine being packed in a bit!:). The beds were comfortable, kitchen well stocked. Our two favorite parts of the home is the covered deck that faces towards the river where we spent the early mornings and evenings, and the river access. While a bit steep to get down to the water, our family members were fine walking up an down. We spent all three days in our beach chairs in the water! It was heaven on earth! The yard between the house and the river is flat so we were able to play corn hole and CanJam, while making smores in the fire pit. There is a nice large, new stainless steel gas grill that we used to cook out each night. Its also worth noting that the owners were very responsive to all of our questions leading up to, then during our trip. They even allowed me to leave my vehicle at the house on the last day while my son and I did the 9 mile float from Bixler's Bridge....by the way we caught over 60 smallmouth bass between us, all with good size...the largest being 19 inches! We will be back for sure!

Weekend getaway

  • 4 of 5

This was a great property in a great location. Highly recommend staying here. We never saw the hosts but we knew they were right next door if we needed anything. Only down side was the beds not being comfortable. It was tough staying asleep throughout the night.

Just Right!

  • 5 of 5

My husband surprised me with a family weekend away in the mountains to celebrate our 25th Anniversary and our stay at the River's Edge was the perfect fit! Though it was too chilly to enjoy any river activities, the scenery was just gorgeous and the house was cozy and comfortable, especially with the gas fireplace. It was also very conveniently central to all of the activities we had planned, including horseback riding at Ft. Valley Ranch, visiting the Shenandoah Caverns and the Shenandoah Uncorked Wine Festival, and apple picking. The best part though was making crockpot chili, cornbread and fresh apple pie in the kitchen with our three kids and then hanging out on the deck, admiring the beauty of the crystal clear night sky and a million twinkling stars (even several shooting stars!). We didn't meet the owners, but we certainly thank them for helping us have such an wonderful weekend!

Peaceful, Easy Feeling!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to the Shenandoah Valley, and Jeff and Lori's home was a a great choice as our home base. We found the accommodations very comfortable, clean, and well equipped. We were looking forward to the fishing in the Shenandoah River, which is right out back, but the river was really low. Despite that, with a little persistence, we did manage to catch a few anyway. It was a short distance to Skyline Drive, which yielded incredible views of the valley and some great hikes. If you're like us and enjoy a good breakfast, take Lori's recommendation and go to Uncle Buck's in Luray. If you're planning a trip to the Shenandoah Valley and looking for a warm, welcome place to stay, you won't be disappointed with Jeff and Lori's little piece of paradise.
