I grew up in Pennslyvania and went to PSU for both undergrad and grad school. I've lived in Stroudsburg for the last 25 years as an artist and real estate manager.
Joanne & Scott purchased this cabin in 1999
This property has been my retreat for the last 10 years where I go to read, eat, and do my photography. I love to sleep with the windows open and listen to the waterfalls...I have been spending more of my time in New York, so I felt that I should share this lovely place with those who appreciate a touch of nature.
I have provided lawn chairs, water shoes and rubber boots of all sizes, because I love to place my chair in the creek and I want my friends to be able to join me. Sometimes we find a flat rock and use that as our table for the cheese and crackers. It is a great place for coffee in the morning, and wine in the evening. Both summer and winter, just keep your feet out of the water once you are sitting, otherwise they get cold! I have warmed my toes many times in front of the fire while sitting in the rocking chair.
Great property to relax and kick back. My entire family and dogs will be back during the warmer months to enjoy the gorgeous river and surrounding property.
The space was spacious! My party and I went in February when it was cold. The heating in the main living room was great to combat the cold. The bedrooms however were colder than the living room. The hot water for the jacuzzi would run out during fill-up, but the hot tub was perfect.
Joanne was great to correspond with. She was easy to reach and also very flexible with our plans, letting my party to check in early and check out late. It was a very fun and relaxing stay!
Getting there was tricky because we used the address on the site instead of the personalized directions that were emailed, but luckily it was only a few minutes difference :) Once we arrived and got into the house everything was great. The house was clean, organized, and very spacious. The owners left instructions on how certain things work and where certain items were. Unfortunately, the couple we went with stayed in the 2nd bedroom with the queen bed and said that the sliding glass door would not close all the way/lock so it was quite cold in their room. Also, minor, but worth mentioning, there are a lot of light switches throughout the house - some work, some don't do anything! It was difficult to figure out which switch controlled what room/light; and the lighting overall isn't spectacular. Besides that, we really enjoyed the house for the short time we were there.
I just returned from a trip in Joanne and Scott's lovely home. Joanne was an extremely attentive coordinator and she promptly answered and addressed any questions I had.
Their home was beautifully decorated and it was lovely to be able to come home from skiing to a hot tub and warm fire. All of the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are perfectly functional and the kitchen had whatever cooking accessories we needed.
My only suggestion would be to offer a small space heater for the bunk bed room; my friends sleeping there said it was too cold in the 20F January nights.
Other than that, I could not have asked for a better stay. Thank you Joanne and Scott!
This was our second visit to your lovely and cozy home. It was impeccably cleaned and quite comfortable. We will definitely be back.
I stayed here with friends while attending a wedding in the area. Let me start by saying the house could be perfect. It's well arranged and the furniture is very comfortable. If the management had been as nice as the house, I would be rating 5 stars.
Two days before arriving, I emailed the owner to see if we could check in early and got no response. Okay, maybe they didn't see the email. But on my way to the house, I realized I had never received any information to check in. I found the address from my original booking and navigated there, hoping I would find entry instructions at the house. I would have called the owners, but the phone and internet connectivity in the area is nonexistent. After about 30 minutes of driving around searching, I realized the address was incorrect on the link in my reservation. I went to the address that was listed and was helped by a very friendly couple who lived at that address. They let me use their internet to find the correct address; apparently, the address on the HomeAway app and the HomeAway website were different. So I eventually found the house, but I was still unable to get in because there were no instructions for entry. I drove to an area where I could get phone service and my boyfriend called the owners. Joanne was rude to him; instead of giving him the entry information, she asked if he was over 25 years old and told him he should already have the entry info. Scott called him back and gave the entry info after about 30 minutes. Needless to say, not an ideal start to a wedding weekend.
Once we were able to get in, we found the following:
- There was no internet, telephone, or cable service. It looked like the service had been set up, but the bill had not been paid and it had been disconnected. I called Scott to ask for help with this, and was told it could not be fixed until Monday (the day we were leaving).
- Several things were broken throughout the house, including the VCRs (we tried a few before finding a good one), the coffee maker, blinds in one of the bedrooms, a ceiling fan in one of the bedrooms, and the screen door on the porch.
- There were cobwebs throughout the house and outside.
- There was no outdoor lighting on the front side of the house. If we had been able to check in at 4pm, this would not have been a problem.
This house could be awesome with some upkeep and proper management, but that does not seem to be important to Joanne and Scott.
