About Nathan Scott
We bought our first home in calumet in 2005 and proceeded to gut it and remodel it working 16 hrs a day for 6 weeks and then we moved in. In 2008 we purchased this home in Mohawk with the intention of turning it into a vacation rental. Well, upon completion of the interior remodel we decided to move into it and really enjoyed living there for two years while renting out our first house by the year. In 2010 we purchased another larger home in calumet and moved in there and rented the Mohawk house out by the year for next 6 years, always intending to finish the exterior and someday turn it into the awesome vacation rental we knew it could be. In that 6 year period we purchased some other homes, remodeled them and added to our annual rentals. It wasn't until the summer of 2016 that we finally finished the exterior of the Mohawk house, tweaked the interior some and furnished the place so we can finally share this awesome space that is "The Red Door Retreat"!
Nathan Scott purchased this House in 2008
Why Nathan Scott chose Mohawk
We chose to purchase this home originally because of the location... We knew it'd be a great spot for a vacation home with all the things we enjoy easily accessible. Trail access right behind the house, ski hills nearby, mountain biking/hiking trails within a short drive, fishing/hunting nearby.
What makes this House unique
Conveniently located on US 41N in Mohawk with plenty of drive thru parking so no need to back trailers in and out. Quiet so you can relax after a long day on the trails or slopes and yet you can also kick up the stereo and play some pool if your not ready to unwind. The custom maple woodwork, high end furnishings, in wall sound, pool table recessed lighting etc... combine to give the home a wow factor that I still feel every time I walk in and I hope will stay with you long after you've gone.

House is great, even better in person!
Full size pool table, very comfortable leather reclining sofa and love seat and the huge t.v. are a definite bonus.
The owners made sure to stock the house with everything you'll need right down to extra toothbrushes, toothpaste,&razors.
The jetted tub in the upstairs bathroom is very deep and even has a cushioned headrest built right into it.
The bedding, towels, appliances, and dishes are all very high quality and brand new.
We loved how centrally located the house was as well. 20-30 minutes from Houghton/Hancock and Copper Harbor(must see)!!
It's only about 1 hour and 45 minutes from the Porcupine Mountains which makes for a very nice day trip.
We would definitely recommend Red Roof Retreat!!
The owner, Nate, was very accommodating and had a ton of information and suggestions on restaurants and attractions in the area.
Graduation Weekend Stay
We came up to stay for my son's graduation from Michigan Tech University. The Red Door Retreat had plenty of room for everyone to have a bed and relax. We used the grill to cook a turkey breast and we set up a table in the living room to eat at. We used the breakfast bar for the rest of the meals. We also enjoyed a few games of pool, and sitting around relaxing on the comfortable chairs.
Came for the snow and wasn't disappointed.
Great stay but the snow was a couple days late, ha.
one of the better trips that we all had in years
This house is great nice place the house was clean and it had every thing that you need for a great stay. I will return again next year
Wonderful old house
My wife and I were pleasantly surprised at the fully updated old house. Nate did a great job in the remodel. Easy access to Trail 3. Good parking and of course, plenty of SNOW:)
Perfect Snowmobile Lodging!
Beautiful house with lots of space for a group of riders, perfect location to trails. Absolutely loved the kitchen and it was equipped with everything we needed, I didn't even unpack most of my normal kitchen utensils that I bring along on our trips. Jetted tub was awesome after a long day of riding. Highly recommend!
Conviently located on US 41N, Mohawk is the gateway to keweenaw county and big snow country. Approximately 100yards behind the house is trail 3 snowmobile/atv recreation trail which links to hundreds of miles of trails. The house has frontage on US 41 and Union st so you can pull in off of 41 and drive right through so you don't have to deal with backing trailers in or out. Mohawk is a nice central location with endless outdoor recreation activities nearby. You have Mt. Bohemia 22 miles to the north and Mt Ripley 18 miles to the south for skiing/snowboarding. There are several cross country skiing trail systems in the are including eagle harbor 20 miles north, Swede town trails in calumet 6 miles south and Michigan tech trails 22 miles south. The sights and unique shops of Copper harbor, Brockway Mountain drive And the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge are a half hour drive north. Calumet and Keweenaw National Historic Park is 6 miles south. 14 miles further south you'll find the town of houghton where the campus of MichiganTechnological University is as well as more shopping and dining. And of course no trip to the Keweenaw is complete without visiting the famous Gay Bar in Gay Michigan a short 12 mile drive away. Don't forget to ask for Jess, the bar manager, and wealth of local knowledge.
