It stands on a 3/4 acre plot with plenty of off road parking and room to practise golf short game. The nearest golf course is about 3 miles away with two more excellent courses with 25 minutes drive. Reviews: We are proud of the revues we have received and would ask you to read all of them as revues from outside the UK are posted under the further reviews section.
Barack Obama, Moneygall: The property is about 33 miles from Moneygall the home of one of Barack Obama's Irish ancestors. Visited by the President in May 2011.
John comes from the south of England whilst Patsy come from Loughrea. They have been married for over 50 years.
John French purchased this cottage in 2000
We both love Ireland, its culture and its people and wanted a foothold near Patsy's family.
On retirement we decided to buy this property and renovate it.
Cosy, quiet and wonderful neighbours.
This well maintained property is located in a charming rural setting. The rooms are clean and well appointed, the countryside is beautiful.
The owners and neighbors are incredibly helpful and went well out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed.
Lots of interesting things to do and see in the area.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was exactly what we were looking for and exactly as advertised. It is in a wonderful area with friendly people and lots of beautiful views in all directions. The owners were also very helpful and were eager to help us find things to do to enjoy our stay. This was a great place to stay both as a base for western Ireland and for what it has to offer locally in the landscape and in the culture of local towns. We would stay here again.
The owner was very prompt with responses and provided excellent information on everything which makes the stay a delight. The lady looking after the property was also very helpful and friendly. The property is well kept, very cosy and well equipped with everything needed for a quiet comfortable stay.
The cottage is in great condition in a scenic location not far from Loughrea and a beautiful little village called woodford. We stayed for 5 nights and where able to visit Galway and the Cliffs of Moher, along with some nice local villages. The cottage is very homely with en-suites for both bedrooms. We were able to have breakfast in the light, airy dinning room and an evening drink in the conservatory. I would highly recommend staying here and in addition to a great place to stay you'll also benefit from the owners help with local information and directions.
We spent two weeks in Ireland. Our second week of being in Ireland our home was at this cottage. That was literally how it felt, like a home away from home. It was so cute and charming. The additions to the cottage were perfect! The cottage is conveniently located close to many things. The owner was very informative and easy to get a hold of. We drove all over but were always happy to come home to our quaint little cottage. There were four of us and it was a perfect size for us. We used many of the suggestions given to us by John. We loved being able to go dancing at Kinsella's, the local bar in Loughrea. It was fun to walk around near the cottage and go exploring. Ireland is so beautiful that you can never get enough of it! The cottage is located far enough out of town to be peaceful and quiet but not too far that you can get anywhere without much time at all. It is a wonderful place to stay! Couldn't have been happier!
The immediate area is extremely rural, so much so that the passing of a car is always noticed. It is set in a valley with a river running along it. The main attractions would be the peacefulness and the friendly people. A number of pubs have dance floors and there is usually a mixture of ballroom and irish dance. The golf courses and the towns of Loughrea and Portumna are within an easy drive. The latter has Portumna forest walks and the castle. It also has the Shannon river and Lough Derg. For those who wish to travel further afield they can visit The Turoe Centre, Cliffs of Moher, The Burren, Allwee Caves, Lough Atorick, Conermara, Mount Shanon or Dartfield Equestrian Centre. The World famous Ballinasloe horse fair is also within an hours drive, held in the autumn. Previous visitors have been particularly impressed by the traditional and more modern music played in a great number of pubs. Galway City is also not too far with its Oyster Festival and Races.
Other Activities: Wild life, Deer, Pine Martin, Hares, Foxes. Portumna forest walk
Golf: Loughrea is a fine 18 hole golf course. Portumna has a high reputation and good eating facilities. Curra West is the closest course not up to the standard of the other two but still very playable and usually empty during the week.
