About Gary Beckler

I am originally from Indiana and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Math. My background is I.T. I have lived in Portland since 1997. I am single and love to cook and travel.

Gary Beckler purchased this house in 2003

Why Gary Beckler chose Portland

I purchased this property because the Piedmont neighborhood was up-and-coming in 2003. Now it is a vibrant neighborhood, close to downtown and many amenities. It is within walking distance of the Alberta Arts District, the Historic Mississippi Avenue district and the North Williams Corridor. This is a quiet residential neighborhood, great for walking and bicycling and close to the Peninsula Park Rose Garden.

What makes this house unique

The 1925 Craftsman bungalow has original charm including French doors, a unique wood-burning fireplace, a formal dining room, high coved ceilings and hardwood floors.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you so much Gary for sharing your home! It was a perfect home away from home for us, our daughter, son-in-law, grandson and son. We could each have a bedroom for privacy with plenty of together time in the living room and dining room. We enjoyed having the games and were amazed at how many amenities were provided. We were able to spend a great week together with comfortable surroundings. We would recommend you and your home to anyone visiting Portland!

Very clean, quiet, big, well located and well stocked house!!

  • 5 of 5

Everything was easy! Multiple keys needed? No problem! Need extra storage for hockey gear? No problem! Need groceries or quick coffee in the morning? No problem there's a Safeway and Starbucks half a block away! The house had ample room for my whole group. When we decided to cook instead of head out, the kitchen had everything we needed. House was close enough to downtown a short drive was all that was needed, yet far enough away that it was nice and quiet. The extra blow up

Mattresses were perfect for the extra bodies that couldn't fit in beds. Will absolutely be staying here again!

Great place & great host

  • 5 of 5

This house is really nice. There's 4 single bed bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms. There's plenty of linens, towels, toiletries stocked. There are also 3 air mattresses. Plenty of space in the living room for everyone to hang out. There were 8 of us and we had a great time here. The place is fairly centrally located. It's easy to take the bus to the bars, food, and beer places around. Gary was an excellent host. He made sure that we had everything we needed and was extremely accommodating when we needed to check-in early and check-out a little later. We had a wonderful time staying here and I highly recommend this place. Thanks Gary for being such a nice host!

Nice house, Excellent location, Great landlord

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay here. The house is older, but it held up to our 6 kids under 12. Kitchen was well stocked for A LOT of people. Safeway was walking distance, which was super convenient, but the location of the house was still very quiet. I went running several times while staying there and felt perfectly safe. Its an older neighborhood, but turned out to be super close to everything and felt perfectly safe.

Bed's were comfy and house was spacious.

Gary the landlord was superb. Gave some great recommendations for things to do (OMSI & Multnomah Falls FTW!) and was very responsive if we had issues.

Only quirk I didn't like was that the laundry was located downstairs. We didn't end up using it because it felt weird to go into Gary's space.

I would not hesitate to stay here again. Great for large groups.

Owner's Response: Hi Salem, Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay. To clarify, the laundry room is located on the left side at the base of the lower stairway. It totally outside of my living space and is available for guests to use at any time. My living space is on the right side at the base of the lower stairway and is partitioned off.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

The house was great! We had a great time staying there. The accommodations the place had was nice clean and neat. Gary met us at the house and was helpful to us in finding places to go and where to go eat. The location was close to everything where we wanted to go and with the house being on the corner it was easy to spot (lyft, uber, etc.) It was my first time booking an VRBO and they made it very easy for me. Thanks!

Perfect location for wedding in NE Portland

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for three days over the Labor Day weekend and everything was great. Gary was a great host, and the house is very well stocked with quality kitchen items and bath towels. It's nice too that a lot of miscellaneous necessities are in the house (from condiments to umbrellas). Location is great and was perfect for our wedding festivities all within a mile of the house. Thanks Gary.
