Inside and out, this charming home evokes the ocean, from its gray and weathered shake-shingle exterior, to its warm and friendly interior whose amenities - like a comfy sectional sofa, DVD/VCR player (select a VCR from the library), and free WiFi. - would make any creature, seaborne or otherwise, feel right at home. The storms around Walport descend in a show of light and churning shades of gray. Watch them from the upstairs sitting room through the telescope and binoculars. For a real respite from the chilly coastal air, slide into the warm, bubbly embrace of the hot tub out on the deck.
This whimsical and charming Waldport vacation rental home has four bedrooms and room for 10, each replete with nautical knick-knacks to remind you of the ocean outside, each cozy and sun-lit through big windows and skylights. Cast your net - literally - in the first bedroom downstairs where you'll find a comfy queen bed and, among images of salty sea captains and lighthouses, a fish snared in a net. There's a full bathroom with a shower down here, and a half-bath as well.
The other three bedrooms, including the master, are upstairs. You'll have company in the spacious master bedroom: a full size mermaid sculpture who'll be the first thing you see in the morning! Peek out the window and savor the great view. A third bedroom has two twin beds covered with comforters festooned with cartoon fish. The nautical fun continues in a fourth bedroom where you'll find a full size bed. Soak in the clawfoot tub in the second, upstairs bathroom, warmed by the sunlight through the overhead skylight. And, pack light. The home has a washer and dryer for your convenience.
Your cook(s) will love the fully equipped galley of this charming home. Whether it's chowder or chili on the menu, it will come together quickly and easily in this stylish kitchen, brimming with cabinets, drawers for storage, and counter space for prep. In addition to the requisite stove and microwave, there's a dishwasher and a double sink for easy clean ups. Bring some of your favorite beans for the coffee grinder, and don't forget that bottle of merlot which you'll be able to open with the corkscrew, and imbibe in the wine glasses provided. And, when the sun peeks through, get the charcoals glowing on the grill for a barbecue. Come nightfall, gather by the outdoor fireplace under a canopy of stars you just don't see with the street lamps of the city.
With the ocean on one side, and beautiful Alea Bay on the other, there are so many ways to experience the rugged coastal environment around Waldport. Learn more about it at the Alsea Bay Bridge Interpretive Center, or just head out yourself to one of three state parks in the area where you can hike along the shoreline, fish, pedal the bike, or paddle the kayak. There is a 9-hole golf course - Crestview Hills - nearby, but the favorite pastimes around Waldport are fishing, crabbing, and clamming. For those who enjoy crabbing, there's a free public crabbing dock on the Alsea River. If you're an art lover, nearby Newport and Seal Rock are home to accomplished artists eager to show you (and sell!) their creations.
Thanks for considering a Vacasa home! We provide full-service management for privately owned vacation homes, and like to think that we offer our guests the best of both worlds: the unique experience of staying in a one-of-a-kind vacation home, with the peace of mind that comes from knowing that the home you book for your special vacation is cared for by professional housekeepers and property managers.
Vacasa began in 2009, simply because our founder and CEO Eric wanted to find a better way to share his wife’s family’s summer home in Long Beach, Washington with guests as a vacation rental. Eric and his early team worked to build Vacasa on the premise that local employees can do what they love most (taking care of guests, homeowners, and properties), while the hands-off tasks of vacation rental management—things like marketing, filing taxes, and maintaining a website—could be handled by a specialized central support team.
Our passion is connecting travelers with the unique experience of staying in a vacation home, and we would be honored to be your host. Please contact us with any questions about this home—our team is standing by!
The house is charming, but there are only 2 bedrooms. The rest of the beds are in a loft area that's been divided and has curtains. The house only has beds for 8 people and anyone else has to sleep on a pull-out couch that's not comfortable. The kitchen is well appointed and the cabinets and drawers are all labeled, which makes finding stuff easy. We were only given 2 pods of laundry detergent, which wasn't enough.
My husband and I went with our daughter and two dogs. We loved the decor all around the house; throughout our entire stay we would discover something new every time we turned around. There were great options for dishes/platters/cookware/drink ware in the kitchen. It was fun choosing what to use with the dinners we cooked and serving up a beautiful meal (they also had all the fixin's for a crab feast!) The hot tub was ready to go and no trouble to use, very clean, and made for some good family relaxing time. The upper deck was great for drinking a glass of wine or just sitting with a cup of coffee and enjoying the ocean view. GREAT VIEW!! The couch in the living room isn't the couch shown in pics online, it is newer and very comfortable. There are a bunch of VHS and DVD options in the upstairs closet; we enjoyed the selection. Easy enough walk to the beach access (three blocks or so..) Overall a great house in a great neighborhood in a great beach town. We would definitely recommend Mermaids Lair to friends and family (actually we already have...)
My wife and I took three of our adult children (and our daughter-in-law) to spend the week at this home. It was a wonderful experience. The house was large enough that everyone was able to have a bed. We were able to have meals at the dining room table with the vast collection of fancy dinnerware.
There were hundreds of books. I would say 90% were on religion and philosophy. There were also some self-help books and reference books. There were even a few novels. We loved Waldport. It was isolated enough to be relaxing, but close to touristy places like Newport, Seal Rock, and Depoe Bay for when we wanted to get our picture taken with Bigfoot, eat some fudge, watch some sea lions argue, watch some whales, or see a diving show. The weather was perfect for us. The temperature in mid August was between 54º and 72º (with a slight breeze coming off the ocean). Great time!
We were allowed to bring our 3 dogs to this spacious home. It was the most well stocked home I've ever been in! We felt at home the moment we walked in. Hopefully we'll get to go there again soon. There is also a fabulous Chinese restaurant in Waldport that we had dinner. Wonderful experience
Although there are too many stairs for the elderly
This house was perfect for families with smaller children as the bottom level was a great place for them to play and sleep without being disturbed by the rest of the family. The view of the ocean is beautiful. Nice house in a nice location.
