George and Ethel Hartner bought the Hartner Homestead in the early '80s after vacationing in the area since the end of WWII. While they are no longer with us, the Hartner clan now lovingly cares for this family treasure and gather annually to honor its heritage and its legacy. It is with great pride that we welcome vacationers to enjoy the magic of our beloved cottage.
Tracey Metzger purchased this cottage in 1982
So often vacation areas are billed as 'get aways.' But this place brings a new meaning to the term. It's rustic charm and peaceful, panaramic views transform young and old to a time where abundant simple experiences--lake swimming, fishing, hiking, campfires, and family games--help us remember that the simple things in life are indeed the best.
There are many breathtaking views in this beautiful world. The view from this property ranks right up there with any of them.
House is in a great location on great bay, and everything the posting says is true, very clean and kept up. All the family picture give it a homey feel and history. It's a short boat trip to state beach. Look out at lake from porch , dock is great place for kids to fish and swim. Far enough away from everything but near enough to enjoy the town and restaurants . Be sure to catch mass at St. Patrick's church . The house is big enough for your family or cozy enough for a couples getaway. You really do'nt have to bring much with you have games, life vest, fishing poles, kayaks and friendly neighbors. WiFi is spotty but also makes it that much more enjoyable being out of touch of everything, almost any restaurant or store has wifi if you need to catch up on something or post your trip.. Ha ba blast and the family wants to go back already. Enjoy the simple life! And kick back. Thanks
A charmer! Hartmer Homestead is a rustic cottage on a beautiful lake. Without the distraction of TV we enjoyed puzzles, games and lots of swimming! Another favorite activity was kayaking to nearby islands. Thanks for reminding my family and me that simple pleasures are best!
The cabin was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone, from 2 years to 70! Lots of morning sun meant it warmed up quickly, but things were in the shade by the heat of midday. Both the refrigerator and cook stove are full size (as of this review they were not shown in the pictures), and the kitchen was fully equipped (including two lobster pots!). Tracey was very responsive throughout the reservation process and when we had questions leading up to our stay. I would definitely rent it again!
My wife and I took 1 teen and my 84 year-old father. They loved it. Walked into an old-fashioned (that's a good thing) authentic 2-story camp and we had a great time. 2 kayaks with life preservers saved me the trouble of humping ours up. Close to Camden and Booth Bay Harbor.
Great people to work with- went out of their way to make it once for us!
Pops said it was his best vacation ever.
My Family stayed and thoroughly enjoyed our week at this cozy cabin! Its the perfect blend of rustic, peacefulness, with the comforts of home! The view is just the best!! The sounds of the loons, the water lapping at the shore...It would be pretty hard NOT to enjoy this lovely place! We traveled to Round Pond for lobster, and followed up with Ice Cream at Round Top, or the Scoop. YUM! Our family joke is you can't have lobster for dinner with out ice cream. We love going into the towns of Damariscotta and Booth Bay for a little shopping and sight seeing. This year we traveled up to Acadia for the first time saw some beautiful views, from Cadilac Mountain, Thunder hole was neat as was seal harbor. We finished up our day in Acadia on a carriage ride which was fun and relaxing. We had a lovely dinner at the West Street Grill in Bar Harbor and traveled back to relax the next days away at our lovely cabin on the lake! We will be looking forward to our next visit. I have been coming to Damariscotta lake since I was a little girl. This is our first time at this cabin....It will NOT be our last. Loved it! Thanks so much!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this cozy cottage. We have two small children, 4 and 6, who still talk about "the red house." We fished, kayaked, hiked, relaxed, did some sightseeing. We wish our stay was longer. We will definitely be back next year and hope to stay there again.
