Natural limestone waterfall flows into custom gunite pool. Wonderful entertaining house! Beautiful area in CT throughout the year!
Rented this house for the entire summer 2014. Beautiful built-in fixtures but furnishings are not homey and welcoming, just thrown together odds and ends. Beautiful swimming pool with infinity edge. Arrived first weekend to find Viking stove unusable and gas grill with gas hose missing. Stove not fixed for two weeks, including a long holiday weekend. No recompense for an unusable kitchen. House had not been cleaned prior to our arrival. Dead bugs and cob webs, refrigerator filthy and we had to clean before we could use it. Very attractive kitchen island has thin sheet of glass over the wooden top. Flashlight fell over and glass cracked leaving us with the bill to replace it. A totally impractical feature for a cook's kitchen. No bar stools at center island. House was devoid of basic amenities, like a slicing knife, a vacuum cleaner or broom, an iron, enough bed linens, and a woefully under-stocked kitchen: a broken toaster, a broken blender, very few kitchen utensils, no mixing bowls, baking pans, tea kettle, etc. The owner did supply many of these things once we complained, though gave us a hard time, and would only go so far. We were told if we wanted many of the things I would consider basic necessities, we would have to buy them ourselves.
The WiFi and cable for TV were unreliable on the first floor and non-existent on the second floor. Several visits from the provider did nothing to remedy the problem. Many windows had no screens. The owner promised all summer he would get screens installed but never did. Also, trash was sporadically picked up by the owner, more frequently in the beginning and then haphazardly towards the later part of the season.
Outside, lawn was mowed every two weeks throughout the summer when it was growing like weeds. And weeds were multiplying at a rapid pace on the pool deck and in flower borders. It was not until late in the summer that the owner gave the gardener the go-ahead to do some weeding. Here we were, in a very expensive house on a beautiful golf course with the outside looking like trailer trash. Also, the owner who is a pool builder, brought potential customers to the house unannounced to view the pool.
The owner is difficult to deal with and obviously had either not read the HomeAway policies for homeowners or, quite frankly, didn't care. And that is precisely what we were told - that he didn't give a hoot about what HomeAway had to say about anything.
