New York Cottage Rental Photos and Description

Cottage, 1 Bedroom + Convertible Bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

Rest, relax & rejuvenate. Welcome to the Garden Cottage!

Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, choose a cozy winter stay, a summer vacation, or a romantic honeymoon, the Garden Cottage is the perfect choice! It is just like staying in your own private and elegant luxury suite! The Cottage has a stone fireplace stocked with ample firewood and cozy amenities to make a memorable visit.

Enjoy the ambiance of the historic Whiteface Club and Resort, including a private beach, lakeside dining, marina, 18-hole championship golf course, and clay tennis courts. The area also offers trekking and cross-country ski trails...all within walking distance.

Garden Cottage was originally an open-air 'smoking gazebo' created for the original Whiteface Inn. It is said that gentlemen would retire here to enjoy a brandy and a cigar after their meal at the Inn. Over time, additions were added to create a bedroom, bathroom, dining room and kitchen. The original stone hearth, stone floors, and living room with its cathedral beam ceiling remain.

Returning guests often mention how rustic and authentic it is, yet fully equipped with modern amenities.

The bedroom was designed to feel like sleeping out in the woods with an amazing real birch tree headboard, however, no sleeping bag needed here, as our fluffy feather bed compares to boutique hotel comfort.

Our attention was driven on finding rare pieces of furniture and antiques from the surrounding region, like our latest addition, which is a custom made dining table from master craftsman Steve Bowers. As you sit on the Westport chairs in the privacy of the large perennial garden, enjoy the smell of the surrounding woods and calming sound of the loons in the distance.

Enjoy the reawakening of the Adirondacks in the spring when the garden’ flowers and berries are in bloom and the last of the ice is melting on the lake.

During the summer, steps away from the front door, take a dip in the purest water of Lake Placid after a wonderful hike or boat ride.

In the fall, you can enjoy the splendor of a nature walk in the beauty of the foliage.

The winter season offers virgin snow for your first tracks on cross-country skis and snowshoes. You can also sit by the fire and enjoy a nice glass of wine.

The Cottage is only a few minutes’ drive to the lovely town of Lake Placid. It is a historic Olympic village that offers lots of shopping, dining options, gourmet shops and antique galleries on Main Street.

Please take advantage of all you find here. We hope the cottage becomes your home during your stay in Lake Placid and that you find it a pleasant retreat to return to, season after season.

About Mary & Ben

We discovered the region of Lake Placid many years ago. We fell in love with its beauty, the kindness of the locals and the ever-changing wonders of the nature among the seasons.

Mary & Ben purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Mary & Ben chose New York

We visited the Cottage randomly and knew at first sight that it would be our Lake Placid dream home.

We are very emotionally attached to it and try to come as often as we can. Every visit, we add new items, whether it comes from the neighborhood antique galley or have it custom made.

We are delighted to welcome each guest to enjoy it as if it was their own: welcome to the Garden Cottage family!

What makes this cottage unique

The Whiteface Club Resort has two restaurants, golf, tennis and beachfront on Lake Placid with cross country sking in the winter and only minutes to the olympic skating rinks and Whiteface Mountain for downhill skiing.

Guestbook comments from the owner

My husband and I took our first trip to Lake Placid in early December and we cannot say enough about our stay at the Garden Cottage. It was exactly what we had hoped for when planning a little get-away. The cottage is so warm, quaint and cozy, beautifully decorated and equipped with everything you could possibly need. The location is just perfect, off the beaten path for a quiet, peaceful stay, but just minutes away from all that Lake Placid has to offer. We had fresh snow fall the entire time and enjoyed relaxing each night by the fireplace. Thank you, Amy, for a memorable and perfect mini-vacation. We will definitely be back!

great little house in a quiet area!

  • 4 of 5

Stayed May 2016 with my wife and 2-month old daughter. Cute little house tucked away in a very quiet area near the lake. Roomy enough with separate kitchen, dining room, living room and bedroom. Bathroom a little small but worked, slightly disappointed with no tv in the living room. Great outdoor space in the front lawn with 4 lounge chairs and a new grill (which we used almost every day!)

Definitely convenient to have the kitchen (fully equipped) with our baby and dining room was cozy with windows on the corners. Would highly recommend to people looking for a quiet getaway close to lots of things to do

Owner's Response: We are so happy that you enjoyed your time at the Cottage. It was our decision not to place a TV set in the living room, not to alter the feeling of this beautiful and vintage room (built in the 1930's). When enjoy so much the views of the fire place on one side and the crazy chase of the chipmunks and the birds on the other that we felt we didn't have the need another TV set in that room. But there is nothing wrong with binge watching your favorite show from the cloud bed (I can watch HGTV for hours!!) We truly hope to have you over at the Cottage

Perfect Romantic Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Coming from L.A , visiting our kids in college in NYC we decided to head up north and experience winter( it's 80F in L.A). Lake Placid Winter Olympics is engraved in our memory and this is one for the bucket list. After much research we landed on the cottage which seemed perfect for our needs. Mary gave us a few pre-trip tips and off we go. To our surprise there was no direct transportation from NYC other than driving or(long) bus ride so we took the Amtrak 69 train all the way to Plattsburgh and rented a car there. We arrived late at night , not ideal in the heavy snow, when unfamiliar,as the area is pretty dark and semi rural but directions were good and phone navigation worked perfectly. The complimentary excellent wine waiting on the table warmed our hearts. The Cottage was exactly as it is in the photos, cozy and charming . No spot was overlooked. Mary filled it with art and artifacts, books and memorabilia, all related to the area , and the history of the cottage, all with superb taste. Details were pretty impressive.

The cottage has everything you might need from fully equipped kitchen including supplies to a small Bose speaker you can connect your phone to .

They also provide brand new washer and dryer. The bathroom, though tiny was fresh and clean with the added bonus of a towel warmer and toilet seat warmer, both were appreciated. High end toiletries (L' Occitane body wash !). Other cleaning supplies were organic and chemical free.

Bed was very comfortable and felt luxurious and plush with all the pillows and the crisp linens. There were plenty of towels, big and small. The centerpiece was the wood burning fireplace, where we spent most of our time, we used the provided wood and purchased extra on the way from road side farmers .The location is perfect, a stone a way from the lake in this amazing country club development. Everything was frozen and seemed deserted, but so so beautiful with the white snow and mountains in the background.I can't imagine how beautiful it is during spring or summer. Due to severe weather(be careful what you wish for) we stayed in most of the time, enjoyed the sun by the table bench, cooked, read and just relaxed. We did not use the T.V at all.

We did take a few trips to the city, payed homage to the Olympic facilities ( the luge and the ski jump) and visited the High Falls Gorge ( a must). 2 grocery markets are about 5-10 drive. Communication with owner was good. Deposit was refunded within a week

A special place to stay....

  • 5 of 5

What a special little cottage with so much history. The owners were so accommodating as we arrived two days later than anticipated due to dangerously low windchill. The cottage has so many special touches that make you feel welcome, from the bottle of wine and wine glasses waiting for us on the table, to the towel heater, heated toilet seat and beautiful fireplace. A special time. It is obvious that the owners love their place and want it to be a special experience for their guests. Nicely done!

Just As Advertised

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our stay at the Garden Cottage. It was everything advertised, from the quaint, Adirondack charm to the amenities in the house. The fireplace was wonderful, along with the comfortable furnishings, and the kitchen was fully stocked for all types of food preparation.

The owner was very responsive to any questions we had prior to our trip, and we loved that we were able to bring our 10 year old dog along; she absolutely loved frolicking in the snow, and enjoyed walks on the quiet streets around the cottage.

I would highly recommend the Garden Cottage for anyone wanting a Lake Placid experience that does not include a generic hotel/motel room.

A beautiful cottage to relax, unwind, and enjoy year round.

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here numerous times and each visit the owners have added a new touch, furnishing, improvement, and it just gets better. It's cozy, comfortable, quiet, and yet very close to the village of Lake Placid and nestled on the grounds of the Whiteface Club a very short walk to the lake.

Once settled in it is sometimes difficult to get up the energy to leave. A real gem.

You Deserve This

  • 5 of 5

This beautiful quaint historic cottage is one of a kind. Cozy, and so comfortable you may not want to leave. Mary and Ben LeClerq have added touches, improvements, and with care. The furnishings are genuine Adirondack article, the original stone and woodwork is stunning. Kitchen is newly remodeled, modern, and fully equipped. The great room, dining room/window seat nook is perfect. The huge stone fireplace dates to the 1800's and the king size feather bed should be illegal. It is really a cloud I think. We love it. Come back to it. And treasure it.
