Rest, relax & rejuvenate. Welcome to the Garden Cottage!
Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, choose a cozy winter stay, a summer vacation, or a romantic honeymoon, the Garden Cottage is the perfect choice! It is just like staying in your own private and elegant luxury suite! The Cottage has a stone fireplace stocked with ample firewood and cozy amenities to make a memorable visit.
Enjoy the ambiance of the historic Whiteface Club and Resort, including a private beach, lakeside dining, marina, 18-hole championship golf course, and clay tennis courts. The area also offers trekking and cross-country ski trails...all within walking distance.
Garden Cottage was originally an open-air 'smoking gazebo' created for the original Whiteface Inn. It is said that gentlemen would retire here to enjoy a brandy and a cigar after their meal at the Inn. Over time, additions were added to create a bedroom, bathroom, dining room and kitchen. The original stone hearth, stone floors, and living room with its cathedral beam ceiling remain.
Returning guests often mention how rustic and authentic it is, yet fully equipped with modern amenities.
The bedroom was designed to feel like sleeping out in the woods with an amazing real birch tree headboard, however, no sleeping bag needed here, as our fluffy feather bed compares to boutique hotel comfort.
Our attention was driven on finding rare pieces of furniture and antiques from the surrounding region, like our latest addition, which is a custom made dining table from master craftsman Steve Bowers. As you sit on the Westport chairs in the privacy of the large perennial garden, enjoy the smell of the surrounding woods and calming sound of the loons in the distance.
Enjoy the reawakening of the Adirondacks in the spring when the garden’ flowers and berries are in bloom and the last of the ice is melting on the lake.
During the summer, steps away from the front door, take a dip in the purest water of Lake Placid after a wonderful hike or boat ride.
In the fall, you can enjoy the splendor of a nature walk in the beauty of the foliage.
The winter season offers virgin snow for your first tracks on cross-country skis and snowshoes. You can also sit by the fire and enjoy a nice glass of wine.
The Cottage is only a few minutes’ drive to the lovely town of Lake Placid. It is a historic Olympic village that offers lots of shopping, dining options, gourmet shops and antique galleries on Main Street.
Please take advantage of all you find here. We hope the cottage becomes your home during your stay in Lake Placid and that you find it a pleasant retreat to return to, season after season.

About Mary & Ben
We discovered the region of Lake Placid many years ago. We fell in love with its beauty, the kindness of the locals and the ever-changing wonders of the nature among the seasons.
Mary & Ben purchased this Cottage in 2012
Why Mary & Ben chose Lake Placid
We visited the Cottage randomly and knew at first sight that it would be our Lake Placid dream home. We are very emotionally attached to it and try to come as often as we can. Every visit, we add new items, whether it comes from the neighborhood antique galley or have it custom made. We are delighted to welcome each guest to enjoy it as if it was their own: welcome to the Garden Cottage family!
What makes this Cottage unique
The Whiteface Club Resort has two restaurants, golf, tennis and beachfront on Lake Placid with cross country sking in the winter and only minutes to the olympic skating rinks and Whiteface Mountain for downhill skiing.

Magical & Lovely
Our family had a wonderful time at your cottage. It's so lovely & my wife LOVED how you decorated it. We've stayed at the Lake Placid Lodge before but your place is just so homey. The quintessential Adirondack cottage. Our 6 yr old son went skiing for the first time & our dog Bella loved hiking in the woods along the Jack Rabbit Trail with us.
We've never been during the summer months but look forward to coming back to Garden Cottage soon...

A cottage from a fairy tale
Great as it’s been every visit. So happy to be there! Thanks again to Mary & Ben! Great hosts & a great tiny perfect cottage!
Thank you!! We are so happy you enjoyed your stay and look forward to welcoming you back.
such a romantic and magical place
I have enjoyed my stay at the Garden Cottage so much. It's a wonderful, cozy, pretty, super comfortable, well though house. At our arrival, the lights were on to welcome us (we told them we'd come late), the path was freshly plowed, and there was even a fire already set and ready to go in the fireplace. I really felt that the owners though of everything so that we felt welcomed. It was so cold during our stay, so we actually end up staying in the whole time, with a fire on, watching the beautiful snow coming down outside and maid jigsaw puzzles. The bed is out of this world, I never had such a good sleep!! Thank you Marie (owner) and Linda (property manager), who were so patient and always took the time to answer my questions and to share this little piece of heaven, I will definitely be black .JW
Thank you for kind words! We are so happy to hear you enjoyed our home and look forward to when you return.
Best time! I felt very special
I really had a wonderful time in the Cottage. First of all, the owners are so nice and proactive. All my questions were answered in no time! The agent Linda is very polite and available. The cottage is cosy and clean you can really feel the attention to detail around the place. I felt at home with all that care and availability. I will definitely come back and recommend it to family and friends.
Thank you for taking the time to review! We are thrilled to hear you enjoyed everything.
Our first night basically ruined
The cottage is lovely. The fireplace, the huge comfy bed, great kitchen with all you need, etc.
Unfortunately, when we arrived at 4 pm the key wasn't where it was supposed to be. The owner (who lives in Europe) and their agent were unreachable. We had to go nearby to wait but didn't have cell service there. When we returned a couple of hours later, the cottage was open, lights on BUT NOBODY HAD CLEANED IT!. So we had to strip the bed and wash the sheets and towels ourselves. Finally, the agent arrived and put clean sheets back on. By then the night was basically ruined. And it was my husband's birthday!
The owners only offered another night's stay for free but we had to get back home. We were hoping for more but it's water under the bridge.
If you stay here, make sure you reach the agent before your arrival.
I am so sorry that happened to you. We pride ourselves on our guests' service, as they are always welcomed with a fire ready to be lit in the fire place, and a bottle of wine on the dinner table. This is our home and we like to say that we treat our guests the way we would like to be hosted, and the 80 reviews we had in that way are a testimony of our constant dedication. We offered a refund and to stay an extra night for free, but you only accepted the refund. It saddens me you didn't mention it in your review. You did send us a lovely and cheering message though : "One night refund would be very acceptable. Thank you.
The place is really wonderful.
I understand that these things happen. I'm an -------- host but live on the premises so I don't have these particular worries. There are others, believe me.
Thanks for your concern! "
We've owned this property for 5 years and this is the sole and only time something like this ever happened: our on site agent had a major health issue and had to go to the hospital on her way to clean the Cottage up. As soon as she physically could, she met up with you, at 7 pm the same evening to clean the place and bring extra fire wood. Then she came back the next morning to chat and suggest activities to do in the neighborhood. Linda is extremely dedicated to her work and has always been responsive to the guests.
We cannot apologize enough for this first evening, it was not up to our standards, but on the other side, we are glad you mentioned you enjoyed your time at the Cottage. We truly hope we'll have the chance to have you again, with our expected perfection this time
