About John Moran

I took my first trip to Ireland in 1985 and raced around the West coast from Donegal to Cork and stumbled on Dingle. Had it been my first stop I wouldn't have gone any further.

Having stayed in B&B's and Inns in the various villages and in town over the years, we bought a site on rocks above Smerwick Harbor and within a half mile of one of our favorite country pubs. Notwithstanding our end-of-the-earth setting, 10 minute access to Dingle affords the best music and cuisine you can find in Ireland.

John Moran purchased this house in 2004

Why John Moran chose County Kerry

There are numerous pubs that dot the peninsula outside of Dingle. We found ourselves in a pleasant rotation, yet always apprehensive about missing a football match or a session that might surpass the perfection of the moment. We stumbled upon a lot in the center of it all with views of ocean swells exploding off rocks, within ten minutes of town and concluded that "we have to do this," and thats what we did.

What makes this house unique

The home is L shaped with two wings on two floors that affords privacy even with several couples/families.

The living room faces the sea in the back and the mountains in the front. The tides, clouds and light make for an ever changing view. In the living room there is a traditional fireplace where you can burn turf coal or turf briquettes.

Its the perfect combination of traditional Irish with modern amenities.

Amazing views in a very comfortable house.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay in this beautiful house. The scenery was spectacular from every room. The beds are comfortable. We took several walks from the front door, including a walk along the water with waves crashing on the cliffs. Its a short drive to Mount Brandon, Brandon Creek and walking distance to a pub, short drive to another and a small market. This is the perfect spot to be away from the crowds of Dingle, yet close enough to run into town when necessary. We preferred the villages of Ballyferriter, Ventry and Ballydavid over Dingle. John was a gracious host and attentive to all of our needs. Looking forward to many future visits.

Review of Baile Ghaith

  • 5 of 5

This "Holiday House" is perfect...perfect accomodation, perfect location and view! Each bedroom (en suite) is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The local person who welcomed and assisted (Padraigh) was fun and courteous...a font of local info and lore. The owner provides a very detailed local guide with his families restaurant and attractions choices. All in all a great place for a group or family.

Wonderful House with Amazing Views

  • 5 of 5

We cannot wait to return to this house for a future family holiday after spending two weeks here with a large family group aged 3-73.

Highlights:

* spectacular views of the Atlantic and Dingle Peninsula including Three Sisters, Ceann Sibeal (Star Wars 8) and Skelligs (Star Wars 7), Wine Strand from floor to ceiling windows in living room and kitchen and most bedrooms (even on rainy days the house is warm, feels light and spacious and has views)

* on Dingle Way hiking path (walk along the coast up to a ruined tower) and Slea Head scenic drive--perfect location for exploring 6000 years of human history on the Dingle Peninsula

* 12 minute drive to Dingle for grocery shopping (Lidl, Supervalu), live music, pubs and restaurants or 5 euro charge per head for a cab

* above a small walking beach for morning strolls, treasure finding and bird watching

*large en-suite bedrooms with comfortable king beds (4 king rooms, and one with one double and two twins)

*really well laid out with two spacious storeys and two wings to allow for maximum privacy

*clean, very well equipped kitchen--including large pots and pans, slow cooker and charcoal grill great for group meals--and dining table seats 10; weather permitting outdoor table and benches seat 10 outside for cocktail hour

*comfortable living room seating with wood-burning fireplace and a bag of peat provided caretaker

*loft with pool table for family fun

*hospitable and responsive caretaker/concierge lives nearby

We cannot recommend highly enough as a location for a holiday in Ireland!

Can you say idyllic?

  • 5 of 5

There truly aren't words for the incredible experience we had here in Dingle at Dun Mhorain. I spoke to John on the phone before booking, and he set my mind at ease about my first experience renting through HomeAway.

We were traveling with a toddler so wanted a house where we would be happy spending time because of needing to be home a lot for naps and such. This house IS a destination in itself. The view from the back of the house is . . . how many ways can you say incredible? We still talk about the day we had a gale blow in from the Atlantic. Watching the waves crashing on the cliffs and listening to the wind buffet the (extraordinary) windows was truly one of our most memorable experiences in Ireland.

FIND THE WALK BEHIND THE HOUSE! We did this four times and again, it was among our very favorite experiences. Slea Head has nothing on the views.

The house itself is spacious and comfortable, actually better than described. There were seven adults and the little one in our party, and we have plenty of room. We cooked most of our meals in, and the kitchen was more than adequate.

Just one tiny warning. Watch for the low stone wall to the left of the driveway when you pull in to the property. We put a lovely long gouge in our rental car first thing on arriving. Insurance covered every penny, but yikes. :)

If I ever go back to Ireland, I'll be hard pressed to chose another destination. It just couldn't be better than this.

Ein tolles Haus mit grandiosem Ausblick

  • 5 of 5

re: OUTSTANDING HOME!

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous, unforgettable trip to Dingle thanks to this outstanding home! Our stay was from Sept. 28th until Oct. 4th. The weather was great (sunny and in the 70s until toward the end of our trip; the temperature dropped into the 50s).

This home should be in a House and Garden magazine—so beautiful—so well-built! It was EXACTLY as it is described on the VRBO site: fully equipped kitchen, plenty of hot water for showers, very comfortable beds, two televisions, spectacular views of the ocean and mountains, etc. The manager of the home couldn't have been nicer and immediately responded to any question we had. We would highly recommend this home to all our family and friends.

We enjoyed some great seafood restaurants close by: “Out of the Blue” and “TP’s.” "Murphy's Homemade Ice Cream" is a real treat too! The town of Dingle is so much fun! We took a beautiful drive around the Dingle peninsula too. Truly amazing!

The Irish people we met were so wonderful too. They will do anything for you!

We are all ready to return to Dingle as soon as possible. When does the next plane leave?

Anne, Jeff & Pat
