About John Moran
I took my first trip to Ireland in 1985 and raced around the West coast from Donegal to Cork and stumbled on Dingle. Had it been my first stop I wouldn't have gone any further. Having stayed in B&B's and Inns in the various villages and in town over the years, we bought a site on rocks above Smerwick Harbor and within a half mile of one of our favorite country pubs. Notwithstanding our end-of-the-earth setting, 10 minute access to Dingle affords the best music and cuisine you can find in Ireland.
John Moran purchased this House in 2004
Why John Moran chose County Kerry
There are numerous pubs that dot the peninsula outside of Dingle. We found ourselves in a pleasant rotation, yet always apprehensive about missing a football match or a session that might surpass the perfection of the moment. We stumbled upon a lot in the center of it all with views of ocean swells exploding off rocks, within ten minutes of town and concluded that "we have to do this," and thats what we did.
What makes this House unique
The home is L shaped with two wings on two floors that affords privacy even with several couples/families. The living room faces the sea in the back and the mountains in the front. The tides, clouds and light make for an ever changing view. In the living room there is a traditional fireplace where you can burn turf coal or turf briquettes. Its the perfect combination of traditional Irish with modern amenities.

Can’t beat the views!
Great house in a picture perfect setting. The views are incredible and there is so much to see around the peninsula!
We stayed at Moran Fort for the Christmas holiday. My family (2 adults + 2 kids), my parents, and my brother and his wife all met up for Christmas. We stayed for six days at this house, and it was perfect. There is plenty of space for everybody to have their own areas to sleep, shower, and just get away from all the hustle and bustle. There is also a lovely living room with a fireplace that is cozy and relaxing. There are beautiful views of the water in the cove from the living room, dining room, and upstairs game room. The house is absolutely beautiful and everything we were hoping it would be. It was only a fifteen minute drive into Dingle to go to dinner or the aquarium or just walk around the charming little village. I would definitely recommend this place to anybody. John was a wonderful host, and his groundskeeper, Paidraig, was so helpful and accommodating. Five stars, for sure!
We (4 adults, 3 kids) stayed here for 4 nights last week. The house and surrounding area are beautiful. Unfortunately a few major glitches happened, so we can't rate it 5 stars. The master bedroom (upstairs) bathroom began leaking (pouring water) out of the kitchen ceiling. We were unable to use the bathroom for the entire stay. On the second day the heat turned off. The caretaker was able to get it restarted for one more day, but the last two nights (during a major storm) we had no heat. As we were traveling with 3 children, they wanted to watch movies during the evenings. We had to ask for a DVD (even thought it was to be included) which was delivered broken. They then sent a new one on the last day. Minus all of the hiccups the house is gorgeous. If the weather was better and warmer the heat wouldn't have been an issue, but unfortunately it was. The house is about a 10 minute drive from downtown Dingle.
Incredible views and beautiful home!
This is the third time we have stayed in this home and we fall in love with it a little bit more each time. We had some family members come and visit us while we were there and it is the perfect place for everyone. Each of the 5 bedrooms is en suite and absolutely beautiful. The town of Dingle is charming and the views everywhere, especially from the house, are breathtaking. Paidraic, who owns the.B&B across the bay and oversees the house, was not only extremely helpful, he was a pleasure to share stories with. We will definitely be going back!
Amazing views in a very comfortable house.
We loved our stay in this beautiful house. The scenery was spectacular from every room. The beds are comfortable. We took several walks from the front door, including a walk along the water with waves crashing on the cliffs. Its a short drive to Mount Brandon, Brandon Creek and walking distance to a pub, short drive to another and a small market. This is the perfect spot to be away from the crowds of Dingle, yet close enough to run into town when necessary. We preferred the villages of Ballyferriter, Ventry and Ballydavid over Dingle. John was a gracious host and attentive to all of our needs. Looking forward to many future visits.
Review of Baile Ghaith
This "Holiday House" is perfect...perfect accomodation, perfect location and view! Each bedroom (en suite) is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The local person who welcomed and assisted (Padraigh) was fun and courteous...a font of local info and lore. The owner provides a very detailed local guide with his families restaurant and attractions choices. All in all a great place for a group or family.
The property is located in a rural coastal community with incredible views of Mt Brandon, the Three Sisters (cliff range) Sybil Head, and the Atlantic Ocean. Indescribable beauty located all within a 20 minute radius. Highlights include Slea Head, Dunquin, Ventry, Blasket Islands, Mt Eagle, Ballyferriter, the Wine Strand and Dingle town center. An abundance of wonderful restaurants and and pubs featuring traditional Irish music at its best nightly.
