After raising our 4 children, my husband and I started traveling and renting houses from VRBO. We decided to turn our long term rentals into vacation rentals. Because we enjoyed renting vacation houses, we wanted to share our great area with other vacationers.
Vicki Heidingsfelder purchased this house in 2012
I had always thought what a great beachy cottage this house was from the street. When it came on the market I jumped at the chance to make it into a great vacation home.
I love everything about this cottage. After Katrina, houses and contractors to build them close to the beach were scarce. This home was built in sections off site and brought in in sections. What a great, quick, accurate way to build!
Vicki's house was excellent. Very clean, beautiful and the location was the best. We could walk to the beach and go to all the surrounding towns/attractions because the house is right in the middle of everything. I also want to note that the backyard was perfect for our dogs :-)
This is the perfect beach getaway and a short drive from Baton Rouge. The home is so cozy and inviting. I brought my daughter and granddaughter. To our delight, the home even had a highchair for the baby!! The neighborhood was perfect for evening walks. We will definitely come back again!!! Thank you for the wonderful stay!!!
We came in on August 21. We were there for two weeks and we had no problem with moisture and the house was clean as a new pin. The house was lovely as all the landlord's properties are. My partner, Don, always calls them Chip and JoAnna houses after the HGTV show Fixer Upper. We had our dog and our cat, who took to the place immediately. We used the front porch morning and night because it was very sunny in the back. Everyday we went to the beach. For the first few days the water was too warm, but with Hermine brewing we got cooler water and higher tides. I definitely would recommend bringing an umbrella because it is so sunny. There is nothing like going into Long Beach for a newspaper in the early morning, stopping at the coffee house/bakery, and taking a walk on the beach with your dog. We have found the landlord to be incredibly friendly and amazingly responsive. We highly recommend her properties. We bought and left some citronella candles because it can get buggy but they worked like a charm. Restaurants we love -- Cajun Catfish Hut, Half Shell, Mary Maloney's in Biloxi, the Beach Bistro in Bay St. Louis, and a new one at the Long Beach Marina -- Brackish...it was great. The French Kiss Bakery behind the coffee shop in the old bank in Long Beach was a treat too. We probably could go to more but sometimes it is really nice to just cook at home and the kitchen was convenient. We highly recommend renting through this landlord. We already have a future trip scheduled.
This property has a perfect location near the beach. A very short walk down the street leads you to the white sand beaches of the Mississippi Sound. (Beware of the jelly fish, though. My nephew found out the hard way! The water in the sound is very murky and you can not see the jellies, fish or rays that are swimming near you.)
The home is decorated very well. There was plenty of space for our group of 6 to feel comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked with appliances, dishes and ice. All of the rooms were very spacious. Beds and pillows were comfortable. However, the bunk bed upstairs is very squeaky when you add body weight. Our 9 year old weighs 70 pounds and the bed sounded like it was going to fall apart any time he rolled over. That was our biggest issue with the sleeping arrangements. It was nice to have a full size front loading washer and dryer. The owner even provided laundry soap...although, we had already brought our own along. There were kites, beach toys and a couple of beach chairs for us to use.
When we arrived, we found that the home had not been properly cleaned after the previous stay. After contacting the owner, she assured me that she is no longer using that housekeeper. She also compensated us for the inconvenience.
As stated in a previous review, the house does have moisture issues. I imagine that the issues are worse during the very humid months. The owner stated that she is aware of the humidity problems with the home and she is trying to get them corrected. However, if you have mild to moderate mold or mildew allergies, I would probably reconsider this location for your own health.
While staying at the home, we enjoyed some of the local restaurants such as Steve's Marina (fresh shrimp and Po-Boys), Shaggy's (Coconut Cream Pie martini) and Darwell's (Crawfish Etoufee and Red Beans with Rice). They were all very good! We enjoyed the beach too much on our first day (sunburn), so we visited some indoor locations on day two such as The Busted Wrench Museum and Garage in Gulfport, Sharkheads, the visitor center, lighthouse, and Hard Rock Casino in Biloxi. Our favorite part of the trip was the ferry ride out to West Ship Island for a fun filled day on the beaches of The Gulf of Mexico. The water was crystal clear and gorgeous....despite another jelly fish sting!
Overall, we had a very nice stay at the home and hope to return to the area in the future!
This is a great property! Great location and had everything we needed. We were a large family group (8) and were extremely comfortable. We tried all of the restaurant recommendations and found them amazing, as well. Could not have asked for anything different. We will definitely be return visitors! Thanks so much!
Very clean and family friendly. Cozy home which is well equipped. Owner is so sweet, always willing to help
