Yes Book It! Your family will Love It :)

  • 4 of 5

We had little kids & teens and my mother came along too. Wow, we were in love with the neighborhood and the proximity to all. Take a bumpy ride on government road and stop to see some rugged and lovely beaches and jungle. There are fenced lots with cows over on the beach side and mongoose running across the roads in the area. The house is a lovely space with two sleeping quarter wings, so private master is on one side and additional bedrooms on the other side, lots of towels, the bbq area, washer/dryer and big living area with multiple places to have meals. It was clean and already has lots of stuff you need to have a really nice vacation. The frogs at night are awesome. This is not the country club. It's really Hawaii and you will love the property and the neighborhood. Go to the Kapoho Tidepools and drive north and around the island stopping here and there. The Hilo zoo is free for the kids. Bring water shoes as lava is rough around here. The Red House will be your home. That's how it feels. Also, the process is seamless and the management is professional and thorough. We were dealing with Jamie and she is totally on it.

Have fun! We would definitely go back.

Nice home for families going out each day

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed the house, gives a warm feeling although very spacious. The house is close to Volcanoes National Park and the tide pool which we recommend! Few mosquitos and geckos in the house, we liked the sound of the frogs at night. During the day, the house can get very warm without the fans on. We didn't mind because we went out every day to sightsee. Overall the house is well maintained and we appreciated the stay. Thank you

Wonderful week in Pahoa

  • 5 of 5

Very comfortable and nice house! My boyfriend and I had the sensation of real vacations in this friendly and spacious house: we cooked without restriction (complete kitchen) and slept very well with the sound of frogs at night, and the sounds of roosters in the morning! Pahoa is a unique city where you can really feel the spirit of the people who live there, which is peaceful, slow beat and simple. Very far from the touristic beat. Perfect spot for those who want to hike at the Volcanos National Park and at Mona Kea.

perfect family vation house

  • 5 of 5

I loved everything about this house, from the neighborhood to having our morning coffee out on the lanai. The kids got a kick out of the geckos all over the place. Everything we needed was super close too. Pictures don't to this place justice. It is much more spacious than I thought ir was.

The house was really big and well maintained. Everything that you could possibly need was there. The only issues were when we arrived, the key that was left for us didn't work and we needed to wait for about 3 hours before someone could get there with the right key. Even though we had rented the house starting sat night, because our flight arrived so late on sat, we needed to pick up the rental car, and knew how dark those roads could be in Pahoa at night, we had elected to get a room at a hotel in Hilo for sat night and drive down sunday. We were very glad we did because it would have been awful to arrive at the house at 10:00pm after a long couple of days of travel and not be able to get in. The only other thing was that the landscaping around the place needs some attention as the yard was somewhat overgrown (translate: bring mosquito spray!)

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying with us. As far as the key situation, the previous guests that stayed here left the wrong keys in the key bag, which management was unaware of. There is also a bug light that can be plugged into the outside electrical outlet to keep the mosquitos away. - The Management

Car: necessary

This is rural Hawaii at its best! Surrounded by lush green forest and tropical foliage. Close to the thermally heated 'warm ponds', just a few miles to the lava flow viewing site and about 30 miles to Volcano National Park. About 45 minute drive to the waterfalls in Hilo and Hamakua Coast beyond. Snorkel in the Waiopae tidepool reserve just about 15 minute drive. 5 minute drive to Kahakai coast line Park where you can view the whales when in season.

Note: As of 10/2014, there is a lava flow slowly advancing towards Pahoa. This could be a once in a lifetime chance to witness a change in the Hawaii landscape, if the lava advances into the town. There is a possibility that the highway 130 could be covered by the lava. The County has already built several alternate contingency routes - good gravel roads for travel to and from the Puna area, if needed. The car rental companies will allow rental cars to use these roads.
