We live in New Hampshire, USA and have family and friends in Placencia that have lived there for over twenty years.
Rand Lounsbury and Maggie Myers purchased this bungalow in 2012
We actually fell in love with Placencia on our first visit 15 years ago. Once we decided to build a small home there our search for the ideal location began. We found this lot that faces the sea, with unobstructed views of the Caribbean. Our property is a the end of a small community development, with common land that can't be developed between our property and the beach. The home is built from local hardwood to be strong and beautiful. Facing east is the sea and looking toward the back of the house to the west, a glass window in the peak of the wall lets in the western sun.
The view of the Caribbean Sea from the hammock on the veranda is just stunning. There is always a breeze coming off the water and if the breeze is up, you can hear the waves breaking on the beach. The house is a nice size for two and with the open concept, peaked roof and ceiling fans, one is always comfortable.
We couldn't be happier with our stay here the past week. The house is super cute, clean, and relaxing. We love the hammock and deck. We used the kitchen well, cooking various meals throughout the week, finding we had all that we needed. The bedroom, bathroom, and shelves are all thoughtfully arranged and placed.
The sea is in view and a short walk away. Restaurants are close by as well as several grocery stores. We enjoyed walking the village and beach and getting out to snorkel. We used Discount Belize Shuttles to get down to the house, and we recommend them heartily. Placencia is worth the extra travel to get off the beaten path, yet it offers the activities and amenities a traveler wants. Penny is great to work with and answered our questions and gave us recommendations. We are so thankful we found Rand, Penny, and Casita Margarita!
We came to Placencia for the whale sharks but would happily return for the pleasure of staying at this sweet little residence! Perfectly located at the top of the sidewalk but away from all the noise. Always a breeze on the deck and beautifully decorated. The hardwood floors just gleam. Penny is kind and accomodating and Rand always responded to our inquiries quickly prior to our arrival.
Our trips out to Silk and Laughing Bird Cayes were spectacular and we were so lucky to find "Mo", an amazing guide for underwater adventures, who is now working for Sunny Side Tours (look them up!). Spontaneously ending up swimming with a pod of dolphins was a real highlight of this trip.
If you have time you must settle in with Brenda at the end of the sidewalk for some of the best Caribbean cooking and company you will find anywhere.
Placencia is such a treasure!
We would love to come back next year!
My wife and I went for our honeymoon in April of 2015 and it was such an incredible experience. The hospitality was excellent. I really enjoyed that the house was a little tucked away off the beaten path and offered tons of privacy but wasn't too far away from the village or the grocery stores. We made many friends for a lifetime in Placencia that I still keep in contact with. We did trips up the monkey river and fishing/snorkeling trips on the reef. It was an amazing experience.
My husband and I had an amazing eight day stay at Casita Margarita this past week. Laying in the hammock every morning with coffee in hand watching the sunrise over the ocean was exactly what we were hoping for. Walking along the boardwalk, or along the beach to town or just up the road to the grocery store makes this the perfect location. We were treated with such hospitality and great service from the property manager. Had great tours set up for us through her and great recommendations for local scene. We will definitely be back for a third trip next year, if not sooner. Thanks Rand!!!
Great place to stay in Placencia. This is a wonderful house -- on the east-facing deck we drank coffee in the mornings, looking out at the Caribbean, and then in the evenings we could watch the fireflies. The breeze from the east cooled us at night, and because of where the house is located we could see the stars and hear the crickets. This place is on the north edge of town, and an easy walk to all of the local shops and restaurants. Penny was great, very accommodating, getting us to and from the airport and providing useful information on the local businesses, attractions, and activities. I only wish that we'd had more than a week to stay there.
Had an excellent time at the property. Owner was very helpful when booking appointment and making sure all needs were met before traveling out of country. Other family members live (full-time that own local bar/restaurant) nearby house and were able to transport to/from house as well as recommendations for local items (dining, scuba, sailing, groceries, etc). House was fully stocked with all necessary items. I was checked on every few days to make sure I had everything I needed. Had entire beach area to myself and this is far enough away from larger accommodations but within about a 10 minute walk into "town." Placencia was exactly the place I was looking for - very low key, cost effective, not busy, friendly people.
Placencia Village is situated at the southern most point of a 20 mile long peninsula. The peninsula is not more than a few miles across at its widest point. Facing east one looks out on the sparkling Caribbean sea with numerous cays and the 2nd longest barrier reef in the world. To the west is the lagoon rimed by mangrove trees which is teeming with marine life. Make the short walk down the beach, or the historic sidewalk into the village, or head north up the beach for miles of uninterrupted beach combing.
