Our family of 9 (aged 2 - 65) had a wonderful week enjoying this lovely house and grounds. The best part was being able to jump in one of the kayaks and paddle out to swim with the sharks and stingrays immediately off shore anytime we wanted. We also enjoyed the bikes provided to explore the island and managed to get in some kite boarding when the wind cooperated. The location is great - there's a smattering of shops and restaurants within walking distance so we decided not to rent a vehicle as we had everything we needed close at hand.
The house is beautiful and well equipped. Dining al fresco at sunset in the gazebo was a highlight each day. The grounds are large, private and safe for a toddler to run about - which our 2 year old did regularly and especially enjoyed building and smashing countless sandcastles anytime she wanted. Aside from the sandy beach section in the yard, there's not much of a beach out front for kids to swim or play in as the reef is pretty much at your doorstep - but the snorkeling is great. Teua was a gracious host and quick to respond to all of our questions and needs. We'd love to go back one day.
The best thing about this house is its location. As mentioned by others, you are a short kayak ride from terrific snorkeling and the views from the fare pote'e are fantastic. We had access to three kayaks (one single and two doubles) which we used for getting out to the snorkel spots and for exploring the motus. You are in a quiet and safe neighborhood and well situated for nearby restaurants, a grocery store and for exploring the entire island.
The main house has the wifi and air conditioned bedrooms, the smaller house is behind the main house and does not have air conditioning nor access to the internet. Though the smaller house got very hot during the day, it was comfortable enough sleeping at night with an overhead fan. It also needs to be pointed out that there is no ice maker, just trays, and no access to the telephone (incoming calls only). You will need to have your own phone to make reservations, etc. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend this house to anyone traveling to Moorea.
We loved our stay in Teua & Gilles' house on Moorea. The location was perfect, away from the road, quiet, right on the water and very comfortable. The shark and stingray feeding area was right in front of the house, a short 3-4 minute kayak paddle away. We felt so lucky knowing that all the tourists were paying big money to be taken out to swim with the sharks and we did it for free every day!.
The location on the island is great too, lots of restaurants nearby, and a little market a short walk from the house.
Gilles and Teua were so kind and helpful. He picked us up at the ferry terminal and made sure we had everything we needed.
We felt like we had a much better stay here over staying at a hotel!
We returned 3 weeks ago from a magical holiday. Our accommodation was outstanding and we would recommend this villa to anyone. We had a hire car, although the owner was happy to collect us from the ferry (30mins away). Gilles and Teua met us at the front of the property and from the moment we looked out the front door, we could not believe the location. The view out to sea was idyllic.
The house had everything we needed and more, huge kitchen, bbq great bedrooms and bathrooms. It was all very very clean and well kept.
We were able to sit in the fale overlooking the water, watching tropical fish drift by. We could use the kayaks from the house to paddle out to where tours took groups of people to swim with the sharks and rays, then paddle a little further to an island for lunch.
This was truly a wonderful spot, with fantastic hosts, nothing was any trouble and they made us feel completely welcome … explaining everything we needed to know.
If you are looking to stay in a house on Moorea, you need look no further … it is without hesitation we recommend you stay here. We long to return and will.
Thank you again Gilles and Teua … Brad, Vicki, Seamus and Miriam
We had a wonderful stay at Gilles and Teua's ; the property is beautiful right on the lagoon ; it was a dream come true for the both of us
We have traveled to many of the world's most beautiful spots, and this vacation in the lovely villa in Moorea was one of the most wonderful. We had our own gated house and guesthouse, our own little beach, our own hammock and canoes, and, most beloved of all, our own little hut over the water, where we could sit and watch our own fish and crabs go about their daily business while we consumed a never-ending supply of the world's best pineapples and lychees from Bob The Lychee Man up the road.
For sheer blissful perfection, it was hard to beat.
The logistics were straightforward: Moorea is a short ferry ride from the main island, and it was easy to rent a car from Albert, specially with our hosts Teua and Gilles kindly driving us over there to pick it up.
The house itself is light and airy, spotless and elegantly appointed with island furniture and a self-watering atrium in the living room. It's even nicer than the photos. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment (though I hope next time there will be round plates, as we were worried about chipping the corners off the square ones) and the gas barbecue got a lot of use. The internet was perfectly reliable as was the local phone. The finishing touch was the lovely peaceful garden all around the house, with a pair of wild (= not belonging to anybody) but anxious chickens walking through from time to time.
There are good grocery stores nearby. We ate well and plentifully at the villa and at many of the restaurants that feature in the island guides, and grew particularly fond of the waffles and ice-cream at Chez Fifi.
The island is stunningly beautiful, sparkling and sunlit, with a gentle calmness that uplifts the soul. If you want a "scene", though, perhaps you should choose another island. Our teenager went off exploring in a canoe with nobody worrying about whether he'd be safe: it's that kind of place. Local residents went out of their way to point out sights and tell us the history (it helps if you have a little French).
Highlights: The incredible colors of the lagoon and ocean, swimming with the fish, watching black-tipped sharks zip along as we sipped our rum, the pair of rays that swam by our hut at night, the sudden appearance of land crabs all over the lawn. It was the best way to live among all these creatures: close enough for amazement but not too close for comfort!
Many thanks to our hosts, Teua and Gilles, for their care and attentiveness. We can't wait to return.
