Overview

About the property

3 BR/& sleeping Loft/2.5 BA, Fam.Rm.& L/R, Fireplace,5TVs&DVDS/wDIGITAL CABLE

I love being at our 2 story renovated (Oct 2013) home - it has a hot tub, outdoor fire pit area, the deer come to visit, 5 TVs, 5 DVDS, Internet, and super comfy beds. I especially love how you feel like you are part of the outdoors, even while you are chilling inside, thanks to the 7 huge picture windows on the main floor.

The Apple chalet is located on Charter Hills Rd., which is a main secondary road on Beech Mountain, NC. Beech Mountain is located in the Northwestern part of the State of North Carolina, at an elevation of 5,506'. The cool Beech Mountain temperatures (our high altitude makes it cool in the summer.

In the summer you will be interested to know that our home has membership at the private BEECH MOUNTAIN CLUB (BMC) which allows our guests for a fee to golf on Eastern America's highest golf course, play tennis or pickleball on one of the many courts and swim in the Olympic swimming pool on Beech Mountain. For those wanting to work out at a fitness center while you are here, there is also a fitness center. My husband is a golfer and loves the golf course, but this is one golf course that I occasionally enjoy being a rider, thanks to the cooler temps. and breathtaking scenery!

The town of Beech Mountain offers so much to do for all it’s visitors. With over 50 acres of developed parkland, almost 10 acres of lakes, miles of streams, over 28 miles of designated hiking and biking trails and the 23,000 sq ft. state of the art BUCKEYE RECREATION CENTER, you probably won’t ever want to leave the mountain. This indoor Recreation Center has a full size gymnasium, indoor tennis court, meeting areas, kids indoor playroom (7 and under), fitness area with state of the art equipment, an indoor walking track and lobby with free WIFI. It makes a great place to go anytime, but especially on a rainy day. BUCKEYE PARK offers outdoor tennis, walking trail, ball field, fishing, boating, hiking, campfire area, and a picnic area. The recreation center has a wide range of sports equipment and outdoor gear for you to rent or borrow. Come by the Buckeye Recreation Center and they will get you ready for a day of boating (only non motorized vessels, canoes, kayaks, row boats and a paddle boat which they supply) or fishing. While they can help you get supplied for fishing, you will need to purchase a license. I will send information to you regarding where you get this. For the hikers and mountain bikers, trail maps are available at the Visitor’s Center, Fred’s Mercantile and the Buckeye Recreation Center.

When you are trying to plan what you want to do while you are in the High Country, it will be easy, as I have compiled a very extensive list of things to do during your Beech Mountain getaway that I will be emailing to you before your arrival. That way you can become familiar with all the area offers, which includes area restaurants, HIKING (I have pages of info. listing area hiking trails that will help you find all levels of difficulty, including easy!), mountain biking (I will even add where you can rent a bike!), fishing, swimming, boating, kayaking, whitewater rafting, zip lining, gem mining, shopping, picnicking restaurants, exploring all there is to do on the Blue Ridge Parkway, and attractions llike Grandfather Mountain, Linville Caverns and Tweetsie Railroad, and SO MUCH MORE. Your only problem will be finding enough time to do all the things you want to do while you are in the High Country.

In the winter on Beech Mountain......................If you are skiers, snowboarders, or love to ice skate or go tubing, our home is perfect for you in the winter. From our driveway to the parking lot entrance at BEECH MOUNTAIN SKI RESORT (formerly called Ski Beech) it is ONLY 1/2 mile. A highlight for children 12 and under, is sledding on the Sledding hill by the Beech Mountain Visitors Center. My hiking info. I will send you, is great for the winter too. If you are a hiker, The Buckeye Recreational Center rents out snowshoes, so you can enjoy winter hiking on Beech Mountain. The list of Beech Mtn. hiking trails will list which ones are good for cross country skiing and snowshoeing.

In order to save my tenants from having to PURCHASE A NONREFUNDABLE ACCIDENTAL INS. Policy for $59, I am no longer requiring this. Instead I am now requiring each tenant to pay a refundable $150.00 SECURITY DEPOSIT. My trusted house cleaner has been with me for 7 or 8 years, and she cleans before and after each tenant. As long as she does not encounter a problem, YOUR DEPOSIT WILL automatically BE REFUNDED 14 days after departure by Homeaway/ VRBO. I no longer require an extra $100. SECURITY DEPOSIT FOR YOUR DOG.

While we have all newer carpet and flooring, still allowing a small/medium sized well behaved dog that does not shed excessively (not puppy). However, crating your dog is required if they are left alone in our home. Please DO NOT bring any dog that is not well behaved and house trained. Everyone bringing a dog needs to pay a pet fee ($25. for one dog, $40. for 2 dogs (if approved). If YOU ARE BRINGING YOUR DOG, PLEASE REMEMBER YOU MUST DECLARE THEM. SORRY, NO CATS.

Our home has a 5 person Hot tub, outdoor fire pit, hi-speed internet (wireless), extended cable (5 digital boxes and remotes), 5 TVs (4 32'flatscreens & a 39" for the L.R.) 5 DVDs, the Living Room upstairs has a sofa with 2 power recliners and a wood fireplace (wood provided), there is a family room downstairs, parking for 3 cars, gas grill. If you want to unplug from electronics and just enjoy each others company, the 5 person hot tub, watching the deer visit outside,, the outdoor fire pit and the many board games will be lots of fun). . Our property is Non-Smoking. Linens are provided and Christina, my housekeeper, will have the beds made for you when you arrive.

You will love the wild life at our home, especially the deer that come by to visit. We coexist so nicely! Even though we've owned our home for 15 years and have lots of conveniences the highlight of every trip has always been enjoying the outdoors.

We finished a major renovation in October 2013. Although we really liked our home before our renovations, we love it now! This charmingly decorated (lodge style- bears, moose etc) home with 3 bedrooms (Q,Q,K all with new mattresses/box springs replaced in the renovation- NO MATTER WHICH OF THE 3 BEDROOMS YOU CHOOSE, your Serta mattress and box springs will be the same. While the sleeping loft has an excellent twin mattress and box springs, that is very high quality, usually children choose the loft. I think they love the privacy that it affords, ALTHOUGH the openness allows the parents to be keep an eye on them. There is no TV in the loft, as there might be a conflict with the TV in the living room. NOTE: The LOFT HAS ANGLED STEPS WITH A HANDRAIL, NOT STAIRS. The queen sleeper in the family room (we upgraded the Serta sleeper mattress so it is a higher quality than the normal sleeper sofa). The twin in the loft and the sleeper sofa are included in the 9 maximum party.

MAIN LEVEL(upper): GREAT ROOM makes up the Living room (Wood burning fireplace, recliner sofa with 2 power recliners, 39 in flat screen TV with digital cable box and DVD), dining room/kitchen with free standing bar/center island (room has 5 large picture windows/ the advantage of the Octagon shape makes you feel you are part of the outdoors, which is really awesome in the winter when it is snowing). The kitchen is fully furnished with refrigerator, ice maker, stove/oven, dishwasher, microwave, crock pot, coffee maker, blender, garbage disposal and LOTS of cooking utensils, dishes, spices etc.- everything you need.

ALSO on the upper level is 1 1/2 baths (2 half baths are arranged with tub/shower in between with connecting door to half bath on both sides); Master bedroom with door to bathroom:(Moose Room) (32 in flat TV, DVD, queen bed) and the Guest bedroom: (Bear Room)(32' flat TV, DVD and queen bed). The loft area (twin bed,no TV) with angled steps (see photos- these are steps, not stairs. There is a handrail attached to the wall). (PARENTS- PLEASE USE CAUTION WHEN ALLOWING CHILDREN TO USE THESE STEPS AND LOFT- DEFINITELY NO SMALL CHILDREN) overlooks the living room. This floor has the outdoor upper deck with furniture / gas grill.

DOWNSTAIRS LEVEL: family room (queen sleeper sofa), 32' flatscreen TV,DVD; Master bedroom (Snowman room) (32' flatscreen TV, DVD) new king bed, and door to bathroom; Bathroom (with shower), utility room (washer/ dryer plus microwave and mini fridge for drinks, also an adjoining door to the bath with shower). Even when it rains or snows, you can enjoy the 5 person HOT TUB as the ceiling of the deck is covered (ceiling added under the floor of upstairs deck).

While our Neighbor has a seasonal home on the opposite side, on the side of the home with the two decks (hot tub on the lower deck), it is wooded and very private.

About Debbie Apple

My name is Debbie Apple and and my husband Ken and I are the owners of the Apple Chalet. We bought Apple Chalet I in 1997 (since sold) and then purchased Apple Chalet II (this one)in 2000. I started out as a rent from owner until in 2002, I loved it so much I became a NC Real Estate broker (renting vacation Rentals). Happily, I am no longer a broker, I am now retired and live in Florida with my husband. I get to enjoy our Grandchildren AND secondly,I get to concentrate on renting out our own Beech Mountain home. My husband and I like nothing better than to be able to visit Apple Chalet any chance that we can get, and we hope that you will feel the same way about our home that we do, and that you will want to come back time and time again.

Debbie Apple purchased this chalet in 2000

Why Debbie Apple chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

Ken and I lived in Florida, but when we talked about having a summer retirement home in the future, we always came back to wanting to retire somewhere in the mountains. Our 25th wedding anniversary was coming up, so we decided not to wait to purchase a home to enjoy. We started checking out different areas and fell in love with the fact that the Banner Elk/Beech Mtn. area basically had 2 strong rental seasons (we knew we needed to rent our home to help pay the expenses) - the winter ski season and the summer and fall season. We took a summer family trip and Ken chose Beech Mountain, mainly because he had heard from friends what a wonderful golf course the Beech Mountain Golf Course was. The whole family fell in love with Beech Mountain and all the fun things there was to do in the area. Then to celebrate our 25th Anniversary, we returned again in October and the fall foliage was spectacular. We were completely sold on Beech Mountain after checking out the Ski Beech Resort (now Beech Mountain Ski Resort). We realized what a winter wonderland Beech Mountain truly was. That explains how we picked Beech Mountain, but 'why this property?' The answer is simple. We had purchased our first property on Beech Mountain in 1997. Since we enjoyed that home so, we decided to look for another. The first requirement was that it had Beech Mountain Club Membership (has a fabulous golf course, tennis, Olympic size swimming pool, exercise room etc). Secondly, we loved that it had a great location, it was only ½ mile to the parking lot at Ski Beech Resort. Our first home, was 1 1/2 miles from the Ski Resort. More importantly though, we just fell in love with this home the first minute we walked in the door, and knew this was the home for us. We have since sold Apple Chalet I, so now Apple Chalet II is our only Beech Mtn. home.

In the summer, we love nothing more than to sit on the upper deck enjoying the cool mountain air and watching the deer that visit our property.

Cool,quite, and fabulous!

  • 5 of 5

The 4 women enjoyed every minute of our stay. We shopped, grilled steaks, and sat on the deck in the evenings with a glass of wine, and watched the deer and chipmunks roam. Chalet was clean and neat and the beds were comfortable. Definately had a wonderful time and would go back again!

WE are familiar with the area as we live about 2 hours away.. We often spend a week or 2 in the Fall... This year sadly the weather was cold and rainy when we arrived.. As we had been traveling before this trip - did not have time to read all the info.. The cabin is not a drive up- so had to walk down several steps with luggage etc.. The 2 bedrooms upstairs are not large and full of bear and moose decor.. When,, the next day I went down the tightest spiral staircase ever we found a wonderful room with a king sized bed and bathroom with walk in shower- it would have been an nicer couple of days.. Was not able to walk down the night before due to bad walkway and rain and dark.

The kitchen is well furnished. Lots of Tv's - which was of no interest for us.. I think the fee was high especially the housekeeping.. as we left 1 bedroom to be changed and no mess otherwise.. First time - that we had to take the garbage to a site... would not use VRBO again to go to this area... Too many rules... Many other ways to find great places to stay in the area...

This home exceeded all of our expectations! I must say the beds were extremely comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

This home had everything and more. Well stocked kitchen, plenty of towels and blankets, clean and comfortable! Our dogs loved sitting on the deck with us and there is actually a very cool gate on the deck too so the dogs will not wonder when we are deer gazing or having dinner ! The owner did a fantastic job of detailing the area attractions. We enjoyed the use of the country club and golfed one day. On the course we saw several deer, a few beavers and a turkey and her baby too!! We enjoyed feeding the deer from the balcony in the morning and one evening by the fire a family actually walked arms lrength away from us !! So cute!! We will be visiting again soon! Location is fabulous and this is the go to place for a fun , relaxing family vacation!!

Our trip to Beech Mountain was spectacular

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we stepped out of the car we knew we had made the right decision...the Apple Chalet was as advertised...all the amenities we could hope for after a 10 hour car ride. We did our best to get in every hike on the mountain...with the exception of Emerald with excludes dogs...our favorite was lower pond creek...fairly difficult...but great picture taking spots including a cool falls. Fred's was a good mercantile...very conveinant and friendly atmosphere...i suggest the sausage gravy if you go for breakfast. As Debbie noted in here description...there are deer aplenty...we got so many great pics...including a newborn fawn...our dog Dante had a playmate in a red squirell who would tease him all day...and run up the tree of the back top deck when he gave chase..Our only regret is booking for only one week as we could have spent another week at least...all in all...we can't wait to come back to the mountain...im thinking a fall trip is in the air...
