The property was just as charming as the pictures and the town of Avignon exceeded our expectations at every turn.
Francis coordinated our transportation to and from the train station, gave us a great overview of the apartment (it was built in the 1830's so it does have a quirk or two) a map of the town directions to the bakery, wine shop, and grocery store-all within a 3 minute walk! We felt like we were living like locals. When we had trouble with our coffee maker he was exceptionally responsive and came to see us off at the end of our stay.
Our only disappointment was that we were there in March and could not enjoy sitting in the garden. However, we made the sunroom our main room and enjoyed looking out at the garden as the trees started to leaf out and the flowers started to bloom.
If you are coming to Avignon, we highly recommend the following tours as they all exceeded our expectations:
Palais du Papes
Pont du Avignon
Gourmet Avignon walking food tour
An Avignon deligt!
A beautiful flat located in the heart of Avignon with frescos and lovely artistry on the ceilings and walls. The glassed in veranda overlooking the gardens was delightful area to spend the mornings having a cup of coffee and some treats from the nearby marketplace and in the evenings sharing a bottle or two of wine. Grocery stores are convenitly located nearby as well as an abundance of very good restaurants and shops. Francis was very helpful, including his having to chase us down in the streets upon our arrival when we somewhat lost to help guide us to the garage located in the back. The property was very nicely maintained and we highly recommend as a place to stay when in Avignon. We look forward to staying here again in the future! Clayton
Location, location, location
We (two couples) spent a week in this truly exceptional apartment in the heart of the city. It is one of the most beautiful homes we've ever seen and we are in real estate and have seen many. You would need a virtual tour to do it justice and even then it is better in person. Francis is a true gem, so kind and helpful. Avignon is one of the most interesting cities that we've seen in France and this was our fourth time there. The restaurants are all in walking distance and are excellent. We would absolutely recommend this home to anyone coming to the area. Thank you so much for letting us stay.
A gem in Avignon
We just returned after spending a week in this fabulous apartment. First and foremost, Francis is a gem. He will assist in any way he can ! The inside space and exterior garden area are truly exceptional, particularly for an apartment in the middle of a city. You are 15 minutes from anywhere in Avignon.
A Perfect Vacation Retreat
My husband and I had the BEST vacation of our lives, honestly, in this beautiful apartment. The location is perfect, from the easy walk from the train station to the numerous museums & cafes. The place itself is gorgeous - the bedrooms, bathrooms & decor all put my own house to shame. I could live here in a heartbeat. I enjoy cooking on vacation and could have easily entertained 30 people here - there is that much space and china wear. There is a nice Carrefour grocery store a couple streets away, plus fantastic bakeries nearby. We explored during the day but tried to dine "at home" at night, and alternated between the veranda, outside in the garden, and by candlelight in the formal dining room. We rented bikes from Provence Bikes (near the train station) and explored our 1st 2 days; 3rd day was a train to Arles; 4th was a bus to Roumelins for kayaking around the Pont du Gard (unbelievably beautiful); 5th and sadly, final day was exploring more museums, cafes & shops in Avignon. We had planned to explore more of the region but honestly loved Avignon & the apartment so much that there was no need. Our only regret is that our three young adult/teen children couldn't come with us at the last minute; we will definitely return with them next year!
Second visit in two years - equally as awesome!
I wrote a review for our visit Spring 2014. This year (2015) we changed our plans to go elsewhere in order to visit Avignon and stay at L'Orangerie. We love the apartment, Francis, the rental agent, and Avignon and surrounding area. This year Francis arranged for a driver to take us to Chateauneuf du Pape for lunch and tour of winery. Denis was perfect and his auto luxurious! Lunch at Verger des Pape (recommended by Francis) was wonderful. We did a bus excursion to Uzes (45 min) for the Saturday market; the train to Nimes and L'Isle sur la Sorgue (each just 30 minutes).
Another perfect stay! We are planning to visit again next year. It feels like "home".
Located in the historical center, it is at 2 minutes walking distance to the Popes Palace (major monument), 10 minutes walking distance to the famous bridge, short distance to the covered market, restaurants, museums, churches...
