Small IS beautiful! Visited 04 - 11 May 2017

  • 5 of 5

There are cheaper apartments in Dubrovnik and probably larger, for similar money - but I defy you to find one with such a stunning view and in such an excellent location for all the sights. You have to walk up and down a lot of steps every day, but you will come home feeling fitter for it!

The apartment is small, but it's very well laid out. Hanging space in the wardrobe is limited, but there's lots of other storage space, especially in the bathroom. The shower is excellent - really easy to use and very powerful. It's also surprisingly spacious, with a handy shelf for your toiletries. A hairdryer is provided - again small but quite adequate - and a pile of fresh white towels, with more offered if needed. A brand new heating/air con unit has just been installed. The kitchen area is well stocked, so that you could prepare a simple meal if you wanted to. The only thing I would recommend you take is a decent corkscrew, to try some lovely Croatian wine! The host, Refika, is a lovely warm person who will chat to you about her childhood memories of Banje beach. She told us to call upstairs or leave a note if there was anything we needed, but we didn't need to, so she left us alone to enjoy ourselves, which was great. The nearest shops, cafe and bakery (also the bus stop for town or to Cavtat etc.) is straight down the hill, in front of the cable car station. But we found an even better bakery, along with two small supermarkets (Konzum and Pemo) just a bit further down, immediately adjacent to the Ploce Gate, which is the Eastern entrance to the Old Town.

Highlights for us were:- walking to the top of the hill (Srd) and seeing the Homeland War exhibition in the Napoleonic Fort, then on to the village of Bosanka, which is very peaceful; Sea kayaking around the city walls and Lokrum Island; taking the boat to Lokrum to see peacocks and bunnies roaming free and a great view of Dubrovnik from the fort there; a bus ride to Cavtat and walking around the pine-clad headland; a vertigo-inducing walk around the old city walls - absolutely not to be missed. Also just meandering around the Old Town streets, especially the medieval quarter.

Our favourite bar:- D'Vino which became practically a second home! Buza - the one which is through a hole in the city wall with the waves crashing beneath you - lovely for an afternoon tipple.

Restaurants:- Taj Mahal; Lady Pi-Pi; Nishta - when you're done with grilled meat, soothing vegetarian dahl etc. served by lovely people.

Amazing views and lovely host

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in this great apartment with simply amazing views. Every day after hiking back up from the old city we would take one look at the view and declare it was definitely worth it! The apartment is very clean and well equiped with filter coffee machine and adequate cooking utensils. Refika is a very hospitable friendly host who went out of her way to make our stay comfortable and memorable. She even let us stay a few hours extra on our last day as my husband was unwell. Thank you Refika!

comfortable and welcoming

  • 5 of 5

Apartment as advertised. Not the easiest place to find initially, but chose not to use a taxi. Host was very friendly and informative and provided cool drinks on arrival . Apartment clean and comfortable with a great view of old town. Many steps to walk back up from anywhere....but that's what we expect in Dubrovnik if you want a great balcony view. Lovely house cat. Reasonable price. Good communication and easy to book. We would have welcomed some milk in the fridge on arrival as we had to walk all the way back into town for buy some to have our first cup of tea. Otherwise a great location I would recommend.

Truly Stunning View!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful time in Refika's Studio No. 1. Refika is a lovely friendly helpful lady as are her daughters. She recommended places to visit and restaurants to eat at, things to do and see. The lovely big terrace has the most beautiful view over Dubrovnik Old Town, Lokrum Island and the pristine Adriatic beyond. Truly stunning. The studio is very well equipped, very clean and cosy but surprisingly spacious .Everything you need. It is located not far above the Cable Car station and the cable car actually silently runs up the side of the studios which is wonderful to see also knowing that we have the privilege of THAT VIEW from our very own terrace. No need for the cable car unless you want to visit the war museum. The location is very well placed for the Ploce gate entrance to the old town at the bottom of the steps and to the old harbour where the boats to Lokrum and Cavtat go from. What a joy to have stayed in this lovely studio in the very beautiful city of Dubrovnik and would definitely love to stay here again. Refika also found that I had left my purse in the studio with all my cards and money in and has very kindly posted it back to the UK for me. What a star. Thank you Refika.

Great Location!

  • 5 of 5

What a fantastic spot - could not have found a better location. Amazing views from above the old city. Refika was a wonderful host. She also organised a taxi to and from the airport for us. The zigzagging drive down the pathway in our taxi was certainly an adventure! The apartment was clean and comfortable and it was so nice to have the kitchenette to be able to make our own meals. We certainly kept fit as we hiked back and forth to the old city. Would highly recommend the apartment.

Beautiful view and an apartment with all you need

  • 5 of 5

Refika was a great host, recommend getting the taxi organised by Refika to reach the apartment!

The two of us had a magnificent stay in Refika's apartment, which boasts fine views over the old town and Lokrum island. This provided opportunities for us to enjoy drinks and food on the balcony, or to visit and explore the old town - a short walk away. Whilst the flat and the area were themselves a perfect place to spend a week, we also greatly appreciated Refika going out of her way to help us to make the most out of our stay. We would definitely recommend staying at this apartment. Gem and Rob.
