I work for the Department of Education providing physical therapy for special needs children. My late husband was one of the leading landscape contractors in Hawaii and built the 9 hole golf course on our property to showcase his talents.
Christine Wilkinson purchased this estate in 1979
The property was a trout farm in the 1950's. Children from all over Oahu came to fish. We bought the property because it was perfect for my husband's landscape and nursery. He soon set his sights turning the many assets of the property into his private golf course.
Along with the cool waters of the Waiahole Stream, the half acre pond, the many specimen trees (including one of the most majestic monkey pod trees in Hawaii), and the close proximity to the ocean, it is the magnificent views of Waiahole Valley that provide such a great Oahu living experience.
I don't know what else to say other than AWESOME! The house and property are beautiful. I was a little worried that it is somewhat out of the way but it was no problem at all and I am so glad we chose to stay there. Chris and Buddy were so helpful with any questions we had. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Hawaii and I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
Our family of 6 stayed at "Back to Eden" in December. We thoroughly enjoyed the property and we were pleased with our decision to rent this home. Christine was very responsive to our inquiries and Buddy was extremely accommodating on-site, though we had minimal need for additional assistance due to the property being clean and in good repair. The children enjoyed the fish pond and exploring the large yard. We appreciated the "little extras" that were provided - a generous welcome basket, games, reading material, water toys, and even insect repellant. The kitchen was well stocked, making it convenient to make the several meals we prepared on our own. I recommend this property, particularly for those preferring a quiet, quaint, garden environment accommodation.
My family and I absolutely loved this property. We went back and forth whether or not to stay in Waikiki, on the beach, or near the mountains. There are pros and cons for wherever we would have chosen but we were all so glad that we stayed here. For the price, space, privacy, and scenery this place could not be beat. We woke up and fell asleep to the soothing sounds of nature everyday. It was a very short drive to the beach where there were breathtaking views of the sunrise. We were mildly concerned about the mosquitos but I can honestly say that we didn't even bother with the bug sprays that Christine provided us. I don't think I saw a single one (but there were plenty of frogs and geckos). For a few of our family members, this was their first trip to Hawaii and it was amazing being able to get them away from the commercialized city and show them a side of Hawaii that most tourists don't get to see anymore.
Christine and Buddy, thank you for having us! The koi pond, the lush greenery, the flaming ginger flowers surrounding us, and the ever present sounds of the creek and birdsong. Your home was paradise! Exactly what we were seeking. Aloha, and mahalo nui loa!
We loved this one of a kind property up in a beautiful jungle valley away from the all the Oahu city buzz. We liked the centralized location--Nothing was more than an hour away. Close to world-famous Lanikai and Kailua beaches (softest sand on the island!) and easy access to north shore activities. A beautiful, clear mountain stream crosses the property, the sound of which soothed us to sleep each night. the Koi pond and golf green were hit with the kids. Chris was wonderfully helpful!
We cannot express how much we enjoyed the stay...not only the home and surrounding grounds, but the hospitality of the owners. We felt right at home immediately. It was an excellent visit.
Located in the very back of beautiful Waiahole Valley and bordered on two sides by the cool, clean waters of the Waiahole stream, the property is close to the many attractions of Windward Oahu, including Kualoa Beach Park, Kualoa Ranch, Polynesian Cultural Center, Valley of the Temples, and Heeia Boat Harbor. Once a golf course, the property still has two holes, including the island green on the the majestic, flowing pond filled with colorful koi fish. Avid golfers will enjoy the Turtle Bay, Pali, and Koolau courses all close by. The famous North Shore surfing beaches are only a half hour away. Historically, home for the Hawaiians was not on the beach. They lived in the valleys where the weather was appealing and water was plentiful. This secluded, private property takes you back to old Hawaii and a true Garden of Eden.
