The Dragon Cabin, once owned by Oscar/Emmy winning rich and famous is located in Lake Arrowhead which is a private lake in the stunning San Bernardino National Forest and is called the “Alps of Southern California” and is known as the best secret in Southern California!
OK, so you are wondering, why the Dragon Cabin—right? Firstly built in 1960 by the famous Italian operatic soprano singer Amelita Galli-Curci, and soon after purchased by Oscar and Emmy-winning Carmen Dragon, conductor, composer, arranger and father of Daryl Dragon the Captain of “The Captain and Tennille”. The “Dragon Cabin” stayed in the Dragon family for thirty plus years!
So welcome to the Dragon Cabin where you will be surrounded by the beauty of the natural forest full of pines, cedar, dogwood and abundant wildlife. The two-story cabin is in a park like setting with 2 picnic tables, wrap around decking along with 5 seating areas (weather permitting) viewing the forest and in the distance Mt. Baldy. Wow, the sunsets over Mt. Baldy are beautiful! Who knows you may even feel compelled to write a song or two during your stay while swinging in the hammock!
When you are not relaxing at the cabin during your vacation in the mountains, the lake is just a few minutes drive down the hill, or you can hike down the hill for the more adventurous. Weather permitting, you can walk around the lake at the Villlage and enjoy the views. Did I mention you have use to our 2 seated kayaks during your stay with our private beach pass!
Family or friends that are not into the many wonderful year round outdoor activities such as fishing, hiking, water sports, horseback riding, and skiing (did you know Snow Valley Ski resort is only 13 miles from the Dragon Cabin) may just want to relax in the peacefulness of the Dragon Cabin and not leave our private community unless you like shopping! Yes, there is great shopping in Lake Arrowhead Village just a mile away!
Lake Arrowhead Village is just a few minutes away from our home offering great shopping (even factory outlet shopping), dining, 40 summer concerts, a yearly Oktoberfest, and a year round paddle sightseeing boat ride around the lake. All four seasons offer activities for all ages at the Lake Arrowhead Village.
Description of the Dragon Cabin:
Do you like fireplaces? If so, you will be pleased as we have 4 fireplaces, one being an indoor BBQ! We will provide instructions on each fireplace along with supplying firewood to keep you warm and cozy on those chilly nights.
The enormous dining room with forest views has the original knotty pine cathedral ceiling and oaks floors with seating up to 9 and has a fireplace that works as an indoor BBQ (no firewood). Why BBQ in the cold when you can be cozy in doors in the cooler months? Just bring your charcoal to cook your meals on the indoor grill. Great memories can be made in this room next to the galley kitchen set up for making snacks to gourmet meals. We also have a 32 inch flat screen and blue ray player in the dining room for your enjoyment.
The 100% knotty pine living room with 17 foot cathedral ceiling with wrap around windows viewing the forest sunsets with a fireplaces that roars. The living room is set for reading and small chat and of course enjoying the crackling of the fire and viewing nothing but trees!
The family/media room has a large stone fireplace designed by Carmen Dragon and where he played and wrote his music (don’t be surprised if lyrics just start flowing from within). This room is set up for fun, noise, music, 46'' flat screen, blue ray DVD, poker, bumper pool, foos ball, poker table, dancing, etc!
Your big decision for the day will be what room should I have my roaring fire in! Although if you are too tired after a long day of activity to make that big decision then the decision is made for you—there is a fireplace in the master suite with a comfy queen bed as well on the lower level!
There are two more bedrooms on the main floor, one with a queen rustic pine headboard, the other bedroom with a four-poster full trundle with a pull out twin if needed.
Both bathrooms have been remodeled for a clean and comfortable experience. The main floor bath has a new vanity and the floors are back to the original pine with the original walk-in shower. The lower level bath is fully remodeled and has a 4 bear claw tub with view of Mt. Baldy and a walk-in shower with two shower heads and 2 vanities.
Wireless WiFi, Dish for TV, and Verizon phone service is provided free of charge for local and long distance within the US.
Please bring your own music device, iphone, ipod etc for your music enjoyment as we do have 2 hook ups for devices. We do not have a CD player.
Check-Out time is at 11am and Check-In time is at 4pm (early check-in/late check-out may be available if we don't have back to back guests).
Welcome to Lake Arrowhead, the Alps and Jewel of Southern California!!!
We love to travel and have stayed at many wonderful VRBO homes and almost never stay at hotels. We are offering the Dragon Cabin as a vacation rental for your enjoyment!!!
The Owner purchased this cabin in 2012
We love the mountains, being near water and close to the ski resort for year round fun. Our property is very private, nested in the forest with enormous pines yet close to Lake Arrowhead Village and 13 miles to the ski resort. The best of both worlds!!!
Privacy, on a 1/2 acre of land, abundant wildlife viewing, with a vintage mountain cabin feel, and updated bathrooms providing our guests with comfort & cleanliness. Exclusive beach pass to Burnt Mill and Tavern Bay beaches--Lake Arrowhead is a private lake!
Debra and Jeff were fantastic hosts for our Christmas Vacation in Lake Arrowhead. Debra was very open with her communication and check on us regularly. During the winter season, make sure to follow Debra's directions to the cabin, as it is tricky to get to. We got caught in a snow storm, but we were prepared for it, thanks to Debra's advice. Make sure to have chains! The cabin itself is lovely, very clean, and accommodated our family. You can tell that they take great pride in the cabin. Thanks to The Dragon Cabin, Debra & Jeff for the memorable visit!
The Dragon Cabin is all that everyone states and then some. Debra is so attentive ensuring that your stay at her wonderful home is perfect. We stayed for 3 nights with 4 adults and 3 large dogs. There was plenty of room for everyone including the pups. The dogs loved laying out in the cold on the porch while we had a roaring fire and lounged around. We cooked everyday, all the appliances work great. We even used the indoor BBQ to cook a tri-tip. It was yummy! We even got snow the last night. The dogs went bonkers playing in the snow in the morning. It was a great place and a great experience. We will be back... Kelly
My husband and I as well as our four children stayed at this great cabin for a long weekend in mid February. Our trip was scheduled to be 3 nights, however the owner contacted me the day before our scheduled arrival date and let me know that a storm was coming in early and offered us an extra night stay if we wanted to come a day early to avoid the bad weather. She did this free of charge and considered it an "extra early check in". The owner was very attentive both before and during our stay. I can't thank the owner enough for this very kind offer. As for the cabin, it was beautiful and easy to find. We were lucky enough to wake up to new snow fall, giving the family an opportunity to play in the snow. The driveway and roads were plowed promptly as promised. The weather turned to rain for the remainder of the stay, however there were plenty thing to keep occupied within the cabin, our favorites were board games, card games and watching some of their extensive dvd collection. Having both teenagers and toddlers there were just a few things I would have brought to make our stay a little easier with the little ones, more toys, activities and movies geared for their age. The layout of the house worked well for us and we found that we spent the majority of our time downstairs in the game room. The only downfall for us was that the only sofa in this room seated 4 and for a family of 6 it made it a bit difficult for movie viewing. We had to improvise and sit in chairs from the game table as well to seat everyone. Overall, the house was very well appointed with all the basics. We cooked all our meals here without a problem. It was a great family experience that we'd love to do again!
Great home, beautifully tucked into the trees with mountain top views. Close to Lake Arrowhead village. Owners are very helpful.
The Dragon Cabin is truly a mountain beauty, clean, entertaining, fully equipt with everything you'll need for a comfy stay. The owners have thought of everything from comfy clean beds & linens, to a very large DVD collection with speaker system, great variety of board games, Foosball table, as well as a fully stocked kitchen of utensils, pots, pans & dishes everything but the food and cook are provided for your stay. There is 3 fireplaces with all the wood you'll need and a gas connection for easy start up. The Master Bedroom and Large bathroom is located downstairs which provides privacy if need be. The onwer Debra is very helpful and caring in providing local info. for shopping, dining and entertainment. She's only a phone call away for any cabin & town questions. This was our 2nd stay and it was just as wonderful as our first stay! Our 3 children absolutely LOVE this cabin and love exploring the great outdoors of this property. Even from the inside of the cabin you can enjoy the mountain scenery with the large all around wall to wall windows. We will definitely be returning for an annual family trip! Thanks for leaving complimentary S'mores ingredients that was a nice treat!
Our family had a fantastic time at the dragon cabin, it was such a relaxing time. The cabin had everything we needed and lots of great extras too! The games and movies were a great way to spend family time. When relaxing in the living room you feel like you are up in the trees. Amazing! Can't wait to go back! Thank you dragon cabin!
We stayed at the Dragon cabin for a 3 days weekend getaway and loved the house. All the amenities were provided in the house: kitchen cookware and utensils, bathrooms towels, soap & lotions, very comfortable beds, beach pass and even an inflatable Kayak for some fun on the lake. The cabin was very clean and everything you need is there. Only about a mile to the village so easy access to stores and restaurants. Debra was very helpful through the process and reachable at any time if we needed anything. Definitely would recommend!
We are off of Hwy 173 about half way down before you arrive at the Lake Arrowhead Village. The location is great as you are close ( one mile ) to all lake activities, (skiing 13 miles), restaurants, and shopping (one mile to Lake Arrowhead Village). We have a wonderful 2 seated Kayak available for guests weather permitting. The Arrowhead Queen paddle boat is open year round in the Village for tours of the beautiful Lake Arrowhead.
