Great family beach house

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a large (6 bedroom) family friendly beach house and we were happy with our choice. I feel like I should first address the previous reviews referring to "rats" and roaches. We saw no rats, mice, roaches or anything of the kind. We did have some ants in the kitchen but we have never been to a beach house without having a few ants. Our five to seven year olds LOVED the bunk room and played down there whenever we weren't on the beach or eating. Unfortunately, it stormed a bit during our stay and that room was a lifesaver. The beach is absolutely beautiful and we enjoyed the hot tub as well. The kitchen is large and very well stocked. The new washer and dryer are spectacular. Julie and Ken are very accommodating and came right over when we had a problem. (kids locked themselves out of the bunk room). We will choose this beach house again.

Owner's Response: It was a pleasure to have you and your lovely family as guests of "A SEA DREAM" property! We're delighted that you enjoyed the spacious layout, hot tub, washer/dryer and Large Kitchen. We try to keep it well stocked and continually add gadgets for your enjoyment. That's wonderful that the children enjoyed their own Kid Suite with plenty of room to run around and have fun! Our colorful décor & comfy beds are definitely kid friendly. Thanks for leaving the property tidy. We hope you've created wonderful memories & hope to see you again soon! Take care, Kenny & Julie Ash

Dream family vacation at Sea Dream

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at Sea Dream after a somewhat rocky start. I logged into my account to review the set up of the bedrooms and saw a not too favorable review with many specific issues about the house. I reached out to Julie with a very specific list of things I wanted her to address before our arrival. It was the Wednesday before we were to arrive Saturday. She was back in touch within the hour and told me " not to worry". We arrived on Saturday to find every request met! We enjoyed the hot tub! The shower on the walkway from the beach was fabulous for a thorough rinse off. But, the outside shower was great to "feel one with nature!" The house itself has some age on it, but is well appointed and the kitchen is very well equipped with virtually every appliance you could ask for! We did have an issue with the refrigerator - but, when we emailed Julie she responded almost immediately. She and Kenny came out soon after to offer a quick fix that held the rest of the week. The location IS spectacular with a short walkway to the beach - that was plenty empty to feel relaxed and make it feel like it was your private beach! It was a great week!

Owner's Response: "THANK YOU" so much for keeping an open mind & trusting us! We're delighted that you enjoyed the Hot Tub and both walkway and enclosed outdoor showers. We strive to keep the kitchen well stocked for large groups so that you don't need to bring a thing! If you have a special request, we will try to provide it for you. We are perfectly located in the middle of the Island near Jet Ski Rentals and beautiful OC Spa (Ocean Club Spa). The beach is your yard however just across the street is easy Intracoastal Waterway access on every even numbered streets such as 2nd St. 4th St., etc. so bring your own kayaks and water toys instead of renting them! Just in front of our mailbox across the street between the 2 homes is a public walkway to the Intracoastal waterway. We'd be delighted to have you return and thanks for leaving the house so tidy!

Poor upkeep, unsafe conditions, out-of-date tasteless decor

  • 1 of 5

The only thing this house has going for it is the beach out front. Maintenance was urgently needed throughout: the refrigerator leaked unidentified liquids across the kitchen floor, the a/c couldn't keep up, construction waste was left on the lower deck, the hot tub was disgustingly dirty and uncovered (completely treacherous for 3 y.o. in our group). One of the outside stairs was held together with tape! One hole in the wall was patched with tar paper! Exposed electrical boxes, roaches and ants, damp towels with mold were left out on our bed, the list goes on. B/c of previous responses we had seen on this site, and their unwillingness to help, we chose not to contact the owners during our stay. I have rented many, many VRBO properties in the past and this one was so far below sub-standards, it needs to be removed from the VRBO representation. It risks giving other VRBO properties a very bad reputation. If the owners are reading this, they should be ashamed. If potential renters are reading this, they should consider themselves warned. And if the local permit council is reading this, they should shut this house down for fire and safety code violations.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that your family member is battling health issues, however due to such last minute notice we were unable to change your week. Perhaps you are unfairly assuming that we would not have been willing to address any of your issues? You stayed at the property 1 month ago and there have been many guests after you including the current guests and there's been no complaints. Air Conditioners are both brand new, Hot Tub which works great is delivered clean & you must shower off suntan oils prior to entering which I know is not always easy with 6 children. There is no step held together with tape as you are implying and there is no exposed electrical. We always provide our guests fresh clean towels. Perhaps you never contacted us because we can't fix what isn't broken or in need of addressing? You have blatantly lied and overly exaggerated the few items that did need to be addressed. The fridge freezer did drip water and it has been addressed . There was no construction waste however we do have brand new wood planks from the new deck and walkway installed and there are no pest issues unless you leave doors and windows opened during your stay. The carpets have been steamed clean in July and look like new again! Our guests are enjoying the new luxurious leather sofa set in living room and the new walkway with new shower head. We've also put in a brand new shower head in the outdoor shower. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CALL US ANYTIME SHOULD YOU NEED ANY MAINTENANCE ISSUES RESOLVED DURING YOUR STAY. We can't read your mind and we want you to have a wonderful stay.

Won't Stay Here Again

  • 1 of 5

Things we wish we knew before renting: the carpet in the main living room and landing smells like animal urine with noticeable stain marks. The basement was swampy with noticeable condensation on the walls and worms on the floor of the bedroom. Those conditions made the children's bunk room inhabitable. The children's room also had a back door leading to the under deck area of the home, making easy access to or from that room at any time. We arrived on Saturday, realized the hot tub was out of order on Sunday but were not able to use it until Tuesday of vacation, accounting for repair and re-heating time. If you stay, insist that the owners ensure this is properly working before you arrive because it takes 24 hours to heat and does not have a cover (allowing heat to escape quickly also). The house does not come with any spare cleaning products or supplies, so be sure to stop on your way to the house for the basics: toilet paper, trash bags, dish soap, dishwasher soap, paper towels, etc. The home itself has some pretty decent wear and tear, and other areas that look neglected, like the outdoor shower that is being used as trash bin storage. There are two grills on a deck but only one works properly. The fire alarm in the basement went off because the basement was so humid, so we just had to remove the alarm from the all. There are no trash bins in any of the bathrooms so you must walk your trash to the kitchen (unless you travel with trash bins that you can place). The upstairs balcony door is not sealed well so wind whistled through the door constantly. The hoses to and from the beach did not work when we arrived.

Owner's Response: I was totally surprised to receive this review. They checked out an hour late, left ground floor window wide open with a/c on and left house very untidy with dirty dishes in dishwasher, etc. This guest did call us only about Hot Tub repair & it was fixed immediately the next day. We have ordered a new Hot Tub cover which is special order. If they had mentioned anything else it would have been fixed asap during their stay. We rely on guests to let us know if anything needs to be addressed that housekeeping may have overlooked. We ask everyone to please keep windows closed as keeping windows open can cause leaks, hot air with a/c running can cause condensation and unwanted bugs and the sea air causes our interior electrical items to rust. PLEASE DO NOT OPEN WINDOWS. Carpets were professionally cleaned at the beginning of the season & we have professionally cleaned them again in July. Guests that visit the beach know they must provide everything for their stay. We provide a roll of toilet paper and garbage bag to get you started however you must shop for these items. We do provide trash bins in all bedrooms and bathrooms and we apologize that they were stacked together in closet during your stay. We have removed 3 window screens that were in outside shower and we've upgraded with a new shower head. To imply it was a trash storage bin is just untrue. We supply a gas grill with 1 propane tank for your use. Ocean elements are rough on outdoor electronics so we frequently replace them. We put in a new walkway hose along with new shower head as well. We would have appreciated the opportunity to resolve these issues for you instead of hearing from you with an unjust review. I hope everyone reads our many 5* reviews and not focus on a few.

Memorable Family Thanksgiving Trip at "A Sea Dream"

  • 5 of 5

Julie, who is the owner of this home, was so vey accommodating from the moment I reached out to her to inquire about her home. She worked with me to ensure that I was happy with the rental terms, even allowing me to bring two dogs (I decided to leave them both home) but thought that her gesture was very kind. The view from this home is just spectacular! The back of the home has just been updated with new windows and we had such a clear view of the ocean, It also looked like the deck was recently updated. The home was very spacious and fit our family of 13 perfectly with plenty of room to spare. We had a couple of beds that went unused as that is how spacious this home is. The kids slept in the bottom floor room which is just perfect! There is room for 6 kids and they very much enjoyed having their freedom from the adults and we enjoyed the quiet upstairs while they were having a fun time downstairs. We used the hot tub only once and it was very nice. The kitchen had everything and anything needed to cook any type of meal including Thanksgiving! I don't recall the last time I saw a kitchen so stocked! We brought our BBQ with us, but Julie had one at the property and even provided the propane, next time the BBQ is one less item we need to bring with us. The kitchen table, held all 13 of us, we had to pull over a few extra chairs, but we loved that we were all able to sit at the same table each night for dinner. The fireplace in the living room allowed us to relax even more while enjoying the comfortable couches. Nice TV in living room, along with cable and WIFI in the house which is a huge deal when you have several kids.

Great location, beautiful view from deck but windows filmed over, safety and health concerns

  • 2 of 5

We arrived a little after 3:00 and the owners were still in the home finishing up the clean-up. They seemed like nice people and it was nice to chat a bit with them. The layout of the house was great for our family with 5 kids, 8 adults and a dog. One of the main selling points for me was the supposed great view of the beach from inside the house. Unfortunately the windows were coated with salt and dirt from broken seals. The owners said they had the windows but had not had them installed yet. The view from all the rooms with windows on the seaside were obscured so there were no great views as advertised. Luckily, we had beautiful weather and could get out on the deck and on the beach a lot. Some of the issues a previous reviewer had mentioned have been fixed but others have not. The railings on the inside stairs are still quite wobbly and there is a gap my 3 year old granddaughter could have fallen through...really scary! There is new deck flooring on the main deck but there is a large gap between the boards and the house. The doggie gates are still about useless. The chairs on the deck outside the master bedroom are not usable. The mesh fabric on one of the lounge chairs was torn off on one side and the others looked dry rotted. The tables and chairs otherwise were fine. The grill came as promised with gas which was nice and worked well. It was filthy though and we didn't find a brush or grilling utensils. The downstairs rooms were musty but I guess that should be expected at the beach. Some of the overhead lights didn't work (tried the bulbs with no luck). The washer and dryer worked well. Mid week, the owners informed us men would be coming to repair a leak in the roof around a vent in the master bedroom. The occupants of that room had not wanted to tell me that it was leaking after some rain. Luckily we did not have a lot of rain because there did appear to be leaking still after the men had done their "repair." Much to our disgust, the rats are still there. There is a big hole in the floor next to the sliding glass door which may be an entry point. They ate holes in baby bottle nipples, peanut cans, avocados in a deep glass bowl on top of the refrigerator, our dog food bin, bag of coffee, our cooler, a plastic bin we had food in and more. Ants were quite a problem as well. This house has great potential but needs lots of work.

Owner's Response: I'm so sorry but you did arrive 30 minutes early at 2:30 PM not 3PM as you posted and you walked on the wet floors after being told the house was not ready. Unfortunately the new windows were installed in Nov, 2016 and not during your stay as it is something that requires a lot of work and cannot be handled on a Saturday between guests. We are always improving the property and had planned on installing new windows at the end of the season. We also installed a new deck and beach walkway and replaced living room furniture with brand new sofas. There was a small mouse trapped and removed immediately during your stay of which we sincerely apologized. We could not find the gap inside the stair railing as you mentioned? The main deck decorative molding between deck and house is now installed. Thanks for letting us know about the side deck chairs which have all been replaced, I only wish you would have told us during your stay. It's a shame that you could not find the many grilling utensils we have in our very well stocked kitchen & we do provide a gas grill with gas tank for our guests however each guest is responsible to keep it clean. A quick firing up the flames quickly burns off any residue. A roof leak was repaired during your stay however you were not accommodating and you refused men to enter and I had to reschedule them only after reminding you that you have to allow us to make repairs. I can't believe you mention musty smell yet you were not cooperative with immediate repair of leak during your stay? Also your wet towels and bathing suits were dripping all over the floor in kids bunk bedroom. It was disappointing that you left the house very dirty & that you wrote such a hurtful review.
