Girona, things to do in the city: Girona is a charming small city located 100 km North of Barcelona and one of the richest cities in Spain. Girona has one of the most important mediaeval quarters in Spain, plenty of interesting historical buildings, one of the best-preserved old Jewish quarters in Europe and a magnificent Cathedral featuring the widest Gothic nave in the world with a breadth of 22 meters. The city also offers a vibrant shopping district with a combination of traditional goods and renowed international brands. The walking areas include plenty of cozy coffees and restaurants that offer a variety of culinary experiences. Girona is also well known for its cultural life. As well as a number of museums, the city has the most important autumn festival in Spain, “Temporada Alta”, offering three months of avant-garde international music, dance and theater. In addition, several jazz, classical, rock, flamenco, traditional or world music concerts are programmed during all the year.
Girona, things to do in the surroundings: Girona is well known to professional and amateur golfers. Only 22 kilometres from the city is the PGA Catalunya Resort, which since its opening in 1999 has quickly gained an impeccable international reputation and is currently ranked 2nd in Spain, 3rd in continental Europe and, most recently, among the 100 best golf courses in the world. As well, there are a further eight high-quality 18-hole golf courses available less than one hour's drive from the property. Girona is also a world famous destination for professional and amateur cyclists. Only a few minutes from Alemanys 5 there is also a vast forest with hundreds of signposted off-road mountain-bike routes which can take you all the way to the coast.
Girona, things to do in the region: Less than one hour's drive from the house you can reach the famous Costa Brava coastal region, with plenty of beaches and sailing ports, still offering some 'hidden gems' for visitors who seek them out. Small villages like Cadaqués, Begur or LLafranc have attracted artists such as Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró or Pablo Picasso and still inspire many contemporary artists. Between Girona and the Costa Brava is the Empordà, a region of countryside, with plenty of small charming medieval villages, as well as wheat and sunflower fields that bloom with poppies in spring, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes of Spain. Girona is also a renowned culinary destination. Home of exquisite “sea and mountain mixed” recipes, the city hosts “El Celler de Can Roca” ranked second best restaurant in the world. Other other Michelin starred restaurants like“Santa Pau” are less than one hour's drive from the property.

We were greeted by Montse Ollé, the friendly administrator of the property, who was waiting at the apartment when we arrived. She informed us of everything we needed to know about the apartment and was eager to answer any questions we had.
The apartment is split on two floors with the living room/kitchen on the top floor of the house and the bedrooms below. The entire apartment is furnished with high quality items, including Miele/Bosch appliances, a marble kitchen counter-top, a centrally-controlled Bose stereo system and comfortable sheets and linens.
There are four (very clean) bathrooms in the apartment, three of which with showers in each bedroom. The main bathroom also has a tub. There is a fireplace in the living room and directly on the other side of the wall on the balcony, which enables one to keep warm outside. The view from the living room and balcony is magnificent, directly facing the university and the Convent de Sant Domènec.
The Cathedral of Girona is just a few meters away and there are numerous ancient paths from the apartment to the old city. If one doesn't want to hear the church bells at night, one should use earplugs.
We stayed in the apartment for one week from February 4 to February 11. The weather was nice, having rained only one night. But it was quite cold with temperatures going down to about 2 degrees Celsius. The heating in the apartment was adequate. But it wouldn't have been had the weather been any colder. There were enough blankets and we could have used the fireplace.
The apartment was expensive, considering the prices of other apartments in the area. But it was worth it. There were only two (minor) problems with the apartment. There were some dirty dishes in the sink when we arrived and a wet mop in the kitchen closet that didn't smell so good.
All in all, our experience was very good, and we would highly recommend this property to anybody looking for a high-end apartment in Girona.
Family of five had great time at apartment. It has plenty of room and all modern conveniences in perfect location to explore Girona. All the sights and great restaurants are a short walk away....with lots of stairs.
It really does not get any better than this place. The location is perfect and the house could not be better. We were met by the property manager at check in and they went over all the details of the property and even recommended restaurants and showed us where we could get groceries. The owner even called later to make sure everything was ok. The house itself is wonderful, beautiful stone and metal with very modern touches. It is very comfortable and a great place to relax after a long day.
My husband and I and one other couple rented the three bedroom townhouse portion of this property for 6 nights in September. I had read all the reviews and seen the photos. It does not disappoint. My husband is an architect of 30 years experience and its often challenging for him when we travel as he sees the design flaws in everything. There was absolutely nothing he found wanting in this townhouse. It is simply stunning. Very elemental, stone, wood, steel and glass. But there was nothing sterile or staged about the house. It was extremely comfortable to live in. It really felt like staying in someone's home. The location is simply magic. It is located in the heart of the old city, right off a beautiful quiet little square surrounded by a medieval church and the University of Girona's campus located in restored historic buildings off the square. The large balcony overlooks the square. A wonderful place to sit and have a glass wine in the evenings. The house manager Montse was excellent - very helpful on every front. It was hard to leave.
Everything was absolutely perfect with this apartment. We stayed on the 3 bedroom unit for a month and loved it. Every detail is amazing. It is a small workout to climb the steps from the center of town but we liked that. Lovely park at the end of the street that leads to the City Wall. Great running trails very close. And cycling is wow! We only got a car to visit and explore other towns on the weekends. This is the best of Spain so far for us. Girona is large enough to have lots to do but not really just a tourist site.
If you rent a car there is a garage and a parking pass to a lot that is steps away.
Oh, the bells. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The cathedral is close and the bell rings every hour. Yes, at night, too. It truly was not a bother to us but charming.
Girona is a charming small town in the heart of Catalonia, half an hour driving from the beautiful beaches of the Costa Brava and two hours driving from the best ski resorts in the Pyrenees. Less than one hour driving from Girona you can find 4 restaurants rated three star Michelin each, and among them El Celler de Can Roca, considered the best restaurant in the world. Girona is also well known thanks to its vibrant cultural life all year round and offers very good quality shopping as well. Last but not least, Girona is only one hour driving from Barcelona.
