Girona Apartment Rental Photos and Description

Self catered property with 5 rooms to sleep up to 10 people

Located in the core of Girona's historical quarter, Alemanys 5 is an exclusive luxury XVI century townhouse that offers 5 rooms to sleep up to 10 people. The property can also be divided into two independent apartments, 'El Badiu' and 'El Jardí' . Its recent and modern restoration integrates old and new, where sober and clean architectural lines look for the enjoyment of essentials such as the space, the sunlight, the sound of water, the heat of a fireplace, the relaxing silence of the stones. With privileged views, it benefits of a zen garden and a refreshing pool filled with rainwater. The property features designer furniture, TV with satellite channels, stereo with iPod connection and internet access. It is an ideal choice for a family holiday or a romantic getaway. Cyclists, golfers, gourmets, artists and culture lovers will enjoy the charm of Girona, a small cozy town close to the best Costa Brava beaches but also to a marvelous countryside and less than one hour from Barcelona.

Girona, things to do in the city: Girona is a charming small city located 100 km North of Barcelona and one of the richest cities in Spain. Girona has one of the most important mediaeval quarters in Spain, plenty of interesting historical buildings, one of the best-preserved old Jewish quarters in Europe and a magnificent Cathedral featuring the widest Gothic nave in the world with a breadth of 22 meters. The city also offers a vibrant shopping district with a combination of traditional goods and renowed international brands. The walking areas include plenty of cozy coffees and restaurants that offer a variety of culinary experiences. Girona is also well known for its cultural life. As well as a number of museums, the city has the most important autumn festival in Spain, “Temporada Alta”, offering three months of avant-garde international music, dance and theater. In addition, several jazz, classical, rock, flamenco, traditional or world music concerts are programmed during all the year.

Girona, things to do in the surroundings: Girona is well known to professional and amateur golfers. Only 22 kilometres from the city is the PGA Catalunya Resort, which since its opening in 1999 has quickly gained an impeccable international reputation and is currently ranked 2nd in Spain, 3rd in continental Europe and, most recently, among the 100 best golf courses in the world. As well, there are a further eight high-quality 18-hole golf courses available less than one hour's drive from the property. Girona is also a world famous destination for professional and amateur cyclists. Only a few minutes from Alemanys 5 there is also a vast forest with hundreds of signposted off-road mountain-bike routes which can take you all the way to the coast.

Girona, things to do in the region: Less than one hour's drive from the house you can reach the famous Costa Brava coastal region, with plenty of beaches and sailing ports, still offering some 'hidden gems' for visitors who seek them out. Small villages like Cadaqués, Begur or LLafranc have attracted artists such as Salvador Dalí, Joan Miró or Pablo Picasso and still inspire many contemporary artists. Between Girona and the Costa Brava is the Empordà, a region of countryside, with plenty of small charming medieval villages, as well as wheat and sunflower fields that bloom with poppies in spring, creating one of the most beautiful landscapes of Spain. Girona is also a renowned culinary destination. Home of exquisite “sea and mountain mixed” recipes, the city hosts “El Celler de Can Roca” ranked second best restaurant in the world. Other other Michelin starred restaurants like“Santa Pau” are less than one hour's drive from the property.

Absolute Perfection

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I and one other couple rented the three bedroom townhouse portion of this property for 6 nights in September. I had read all the reviews and seen the photos. It does not disappoint. My husband is an architect of 30 years experience and its often challenging for him when we travel as he sees the design flaws in everything. There was absolutely nothing he found wanting in this townhouse. It is simply stunning. Very elemental, stone, wood, steel and glass. But there was nothing sterile or staged about the house. It was extremely comfortable to live in. It really felt like staying in someone's home. The location is simply magic. It is located in the heart of the old city, right off a beautiful quiet little square surrounded by a medieval church and the University of Girona's campus located in restored historic buildings off the square. The large balcony overlooks the square. A wonderful place to sit and have a glass wine in the evenings. The house manager Montse was excellent - very helpful on every front. It was hard to leave.

Everything was absolutely perfect with this apartment. We stayed on the 3 bedroom unit for a month and loved it. Every detail is amazing. It is a small workout to climb the steps from the center of town but we liked that. Lovely park at the end of the street that leads to the City Wall. Great running trails very close. And cycling is wow! We only got a car to visit and explore other towns on the weekends. This is the best of Spain so far for us. Girona is large enough to have lots to do but not really just a tourist site.

If you rent a car there is a garage and a parking pass to a lot that is steps away.

Oh, the bells. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. The cathedral is close and the bell rings every hour. Yes, at night, too. It truly was not a bother to us but charming.

It's a gem

  • 5 of 5

The place is amazing and the finest place I've ever stayed (and I have travelled to 43 countries) in my 54 years. After a 10 minute drive , from the train station, thru the narrow , twisting, gray, stone streets of Girona, we arrived at Alemanys5. Another couple followed us inside and asked if it was a museum. The place has 12 foot ceilings, sliding barn doors, hidden kitchen appliances, exposed wooden beams and a lift for your luggage. Every morning we were awaken by sound of church bells. It felt so good to just lay in bed and enjoy the bells and the beauty of the place that we practically had to force ourselves out to explore the town. Fortunately we did because Girona is a 900 year old town with many buildings turned into gourmet restaurants , shops and town houses. And, Alemanys 5 sits right in the middle of the town. One of the world's best restaurants is only a 20 minute drive away . For all it has to offer the town still seems unspoiled , lacking all the chain stores that make the world seem so generic and not so interesting. Girona is like a crown and Alemanys 5 is one of the crowns jewels

Beautiful apartment in a beautiful town

  • 5 of 5

Alemanys 5 has been restored and modernised with love and attention to detail by its architect owners. The result is a stunning modern apartment that celebrates natural materials. It has a large balcony onto which you can wheel the kitchen table, taking all meals outside overlooking one of the town's squares and a couple of the cobbled alleyways that make Girona so special. I came home wanting to strip away all the clutter in my own house and enjoy the simpler, minimalist style of Alemanys. That said, the apartment is very well equipped.

At the moment the town is unspoilt - let's hope it stays that way. It has plenty of restaurants etc for tourists but has retained its historical character. It is a perfect place for a short break for those who love wandering around beautiful places. (Nb it is hilly so not ideal walking territory for anyone who has difficulty getting around.)

This was a wonderful place to stay. The owners, Juan and Anna, provided excellent advice and information, and the apartments are kept beautifully clean by Montse, who also provided information about where to find things in the town.

Thoroughly recommended.

Where to begin. We spent four glorious days in this house and I didn’t want to leave. I could have spent the entire time in the house.

I am an architect with over 25 years of experience and have worked on some of the most high profile iconic projects in the world, and this is one of the very best pieces of architecture I have ever experienced. You could tell the love and passion that went into the design of this house in every detail.

The details all reinforced the arrangement of spaces, the flow, and the proportions. Everything was both straightforward and quirky providing a great sensual experience. Every instance of engaging the space brought yet another insight into the design as another detail made its presence known and always reinforced the overall design.

All that said, the house is not a museum, it is a very comfortable home in a great location with superb amenities. It suited life with a family, my 3 ½ year old son thought it was a castle and had great fun exploring, playing, and just hanging out when we weren’t out exploring Girona and the country side.
