About Catherine Ross

My husband and I have lived about 10 miles from our cottage since 2001. My husband grew up in Dryden, NY and I fell in love with the water while growing up on Long Island. We are both graduates of Cornell University and we worth together in a family business in Ithaca. Neither of us have found a place that we would like to live more than our beautiful Finger Lakes region.

Catherine Ross purchased this house in 1978

Why Catherine Ross chose Cayuga Lake

Our lake home has been in our family for over 4 decades. Throughout that time family members have created and help maintain a vacation destination where people can enjoy each others' company while surrounded by beauty. Once a mostly seasonal cottage, our parents had an expansive addition built in 2000. They lived full time at this wonderful home until they decided to downsize in 2008. At that time my husband and I volunteered to maintain the home. We have lived just 10 miles from our cottage since 2001 and own a long standing business in Ithaca. We are thrilled that the option of offering vacation rentals helps us to keep this very special place in our family. After five years of vacation rental and enjoying countless glowing guest comments, I know many people feel the same way about our home.

What makes this house unique

This home holds wonderful memories for my family - holidays and summer get-togethers with all the cousins playing in the lake, fishing off the dock, adults relaxing, grilling a great meal to share, enjoying the heavenly sunsets, and making s'mores over a bonfire.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Each member of our party was EXTREMELY impressed with the property. We felt that the pictures posted on the website did not do justice to the beauty of the home.

Fantastic Stay over Graduation Weekend 2016

  • 5 of 5

We had five families (including us - so 12 people) stay with us over graduation weekend, and this beautiful property with four bedrooms (each with its own bathroom) worked perfectly for our needs. It is situated in a lovely spot for sunsets, and we enjoyed being able to use the dock and the kayaks. The decks worked so well for our gatherings - breakfast, and grilling out for suppers. The beds are very comfortable, the kitchen is well-equipped with all the pans and utensils needed. It is obviously a well-loved gathering spot for the owner's family, and we can see why.

It is about 35 minutes from Ithaca, but with all the hustle and bustle associated with graduation weekend in Ithaca, we surely enjoyed the peaceful setting of this property. And with a vineyard and winery just up the road (5 min away), we were well set for a great gathering! Just a note to visitors -- visit Wegman's grocery store in Ithaca for your main groceries (as we did and as we do every time we come to Ithaca to stay) because there is not a grocery store close by.

We highly recommend this property and were so glad to be able to host our family from out of state here for Cornell's graduation weekend! (I reserved it two years in advance, and I'm so glad I did!) Thank you, Cathy, for a wonderful property to enjoy with our family!

Ahhhh, serenity!

  • 5 of 5

This property lives up to every bit of its description . It is immaculate, spacious , very well equipped kitchen, gardens, decks and more. Truly a lovely home that met all our expectations and more. We had fabulous June weather which found us making use of the kayaks and lounging on the dock most days. Two wineries at top of the hill and many more around the lake. Busy Bee is a geat lunch spot. We kayaked there. It was truly the relaxing vacation I wanted my family of 8 adults to have.Kathy was easy to work with, promptly answered all our questions. My only complaint is that we had to leave.

Beautiful property on the lake

  • 5 of 5

The house is beautifully maintained on a quite street right near the lake. Gorgeous views from the main living room and deck. The grounds are very pretty and there is a path down to the lake where you can take a canoe or kayak. We had a group of eight adults and we all had a great time, there is a hot tub, grills, washing facilities and a fully stocked (and labeled) house.

Owner was very helpful in setting up the booking, left suggestions of which wineries, restaurants to visit. Got straight back to me when we had a small emergency. All in all a perfect place for a group of friends or family to relax and enjoy themselves.

Amazing Place!!

  • 5 of 5

This house could not have been any more perfect for our Cornell Law School graduation weekend for our family of 9. We loved that everyone had their own space with the spacious bedrooms each with a private bath. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment...but be sure to bring all you need for cooking (even salt and pepper). The home was very clean and the lake view is amazing. Kathy was very easy to work with and available for questions. Our only wish was that we could have stayed longer! I highly recommend this home! You won't be sorry!

Wonderful Thanksgiving Weekend

  • 5 of 5

Our son-in-law is a doctoral student at Cornell and he and my daughter and grandson live in Ithaca. Our extended family decided to spend Thanksgiving with them. We thought a rental, where we would all be together would work best.

I came across this gem on Homeaway- It was perfect for us! About the house:

1. It has many levels, but if you have little ones, there are baby gates on the main floor to keep them corralled and safe!

2. The kitchen has every possible dish, pot, or cooking utensil that you would need. We cooked a massive Thanksgiving feast and found everything we needed to do it.

3. The lakeview from the living room is fantastic- Very serene.

4. The hot tub is a nice plus, especially in cold weather!

5. The bedrooms are spacious and extremely clean.

The owner does require that you wash all the linens before you leave. Be aware, that takes some time if you have a full house!

We visited nearby Aurora for walking and lunch and had a fantastic time there.

We enthusiastically recommend this house!

Owner's Response: I'm so glad this family had a great holiday at the lake. They were wonderful guests! One clarification: guests can choose to bring their own sheets and towels or they are welcome to use ours. If they use ours, they must wash, dry, fold and return what they used. Guests do not need to bring and/or wash pillows, duvets, blankets, tablecloths, kitchen towels or hand towels that are left out for guests (barring an obvious spill/mishap that would need to be addressed by the guest right away) - only the bath towels, sheet sets, and beach/hot tub towels that are in the closets and clearly marked. It is infinitely easier at check-out if you bring your own sheets and towels. I encourage people to bring at least towels - if everyone in the group brings one towel set and takes it home, it cuts down quite a bit of what needs to be done before check-out. I wish I could offer laundry service but we are located in a rural area and there are no businesses available offering this service convenient to the house. I focus on keeping duvets, mattress pads, table cloths and kitchen towels clean between guests and that is about all I can handle in the 5 hours between guests checking out and checking in.
