About Tom - FTR Staff

Our Families "Amburgey" heritage is Appalachian. Our love for the Mountains, Western North Carolina's Rivers and it's abundance of natural organic materials is reflected in our design. Enjoy

This Log home's location and title, was inspired by the oil painting, “Following The River”, by Robert Duncan.

The pictorial imagery of Native Americans on horseback crossing a wintery river's edge could secretly come to life in this uniquely tranquil, unobstructed river view. The Tuckaseeggee River’s abundant wild life and its degrees of strength, are breathtaking and worth the perch.

PERFECT GETAWAY

  • 5 of 5

Wow. This place goes down on my list of favorite places to be. If there were a 6-star option, I would have chosen that. My family of 6 stayed the weekend here and had a blast. There is a beautiful 2-faced fireplace that we utilized every night. The house is lavishly decorated with old books, games, American Indian decor, and art. We loved that it didn't feel sterile. It was like something out of a movie. The caretaker is very sweet and went above and beyond (including prepping the fireplaces) to make us feel comfortable. Nearby, there is a little town….if you want to get out and have a beer at the brewery, antique, or eat great food. It is the perfect place to just getaway and sip hot tea, read a book, and enjoy the beautiful views. I can't wait to plan our next visit!!!

Beautiful Mountain getaway

  • 5 of 5

Just travelled to the mountains this September with out adult children and 2 dogs. We enjoyed every minute of this vacation home. Beautiful setting right on the river and plenty of room for all of us. The "cabin", as is much more than that, is comfortable and has everything that you would need. Very close to Bryson City and all attractions, restaurants there. I know some people have said something about it being on the road, but the living is inside and in the backyard so you really don't notice it. Doris, the caretaker is wonderful - right on top of everything. If you are looking for a lovely place, that is people and dog friendly, this is the place!

Wonderful family getaway

  • 5 of 5

Seven adults and two small children had a fantastic stay Fourth of July week. The cabin itself is first-class. Very well designed and decorated, with lots of unique features (a tree to the ceiling "growing" out of rocks in the floor of the living room, a preserved beehive, Native American art, double-sided fireplace, etc.). It's also very well-kept. Sunsets over the river were magical and there was a surprising lack of mosquitoes (but lots of fireflies). The big outdoor firepit kept what few bugs there were at bay. More surprising was how warm the river water was for swimming. Great location 10 minutes from Bryson City (which is a very cool town for beer, food and shopping), maybe 15 minutes from Cherokee attractions and five minutes to a really nice farm stand. Our group of seven adults was two larger than planned, and the cabin would be ideal for six adults. Lots of towels provided and the beds were comfortable. The caretaker was friendly and helpful and when the owner briefly stopped by to say hello the fact that she kept asking what they could do better indicated the attention this cabin receives. I'm still trying to think of an answer to her question - everything was wonderful.
