Our 4 bedroom/4 bath home is located on a secluded Monterey Bay beach, minutes away from the quaint harbor village of Moss Landing.

Walk out our door and you're within the dunes, steps away from the beach. Take a long walk, build a sand castle, surf fish, watch pelicans dive, dolphins surf, sea lions and otters hunt. If you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of a whale playing in the waves.

The complex has a swimming pool, hot tub, 2 tennis courts, bocci ball, shuffleboard, basketball court, sand and hard surface volleyball and net driving range.

Golfing, biking, hiking, wine tasting, shopping, deep sea fishing, kayaking, whale watching and bird watching are popular activities.

We're a 30 minute drive south of the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. A 15 minute drive north of the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the beautiful town of Carmel. Both destinations connected by the famous 17 Mile Drive which takes you through Pebble Beach. Pinnacles National Monument, Point Lobos State Reserve, Big Sur coast and the historic missions of Carmel, Monterey, San Juan Bautista, and Santa Cruz are within easy driving distance. Award winning wine tasting is available North, South and East of our home in the small valleys around Salinas/Carmel valleys and Santa Cruz mountains. Bike trails are never ending and the Elkhorn Slough is a birding and kayaking destination. The restaurants around Monterey Bay are famous for their locally grown food. Freshly caught seafood is abundant year round. Fresh vegetables and fruits picked daily throughout the Salinas Valley.

The best is our magnificent sunsets. A sunset toast on our deck to another perfect day is one of our favorite activities. Whether taking a jog on the beach or reading a good book by the fire, our place has something for everyone. It's a perfect spot to get away and enjoy family and friends in a relaxing yet adventurous environment.

Sixtieth Birthday getaway for 7 women!!

It was a bit risky selecting a place which would suit 7 women....no issues here. We had a fantastic stay. The location is private and quiet (except for the sound of the waves crashing a few steps away). In fact the week we were there we saw five people on the beach the whole time! Ocean was pretty rough so we didn't put a toe in, the weather was breezy and not really warm enough to swim anyway. The property was very well setup, the kitchen was fantastic with every type of kitchen utensil, pot, dish, glass and serving dishes you could possibly need/want. Beds were comfortable and separate from each other. Easy drives to Moss Landing, Monterey and Carmel (Big Sur and 17 mile drive), just over an hour to Silicon Valley/Palo Alto/San Jose. Loads of birds and sea life ( seals and otters in the area). We would all highly recommend.

A Well-Kept Secret

Monterey Dunes Colony is a well-kept secret. It has the amenities of a wonderful resort but without a front desk, social director, and concierge. It is beautifully maintained, peaceful, and private.

This particular unit is spacious, clean, and lovely. Little extras like the spices in the kitchen, tennis racquets, two bikes, kites, basketball, volleyball, sand pails, games, toys, videos, etc. made us feel at home as soon as we entered. The location is perfect--a few steps to the beach and a few steps to the pool. The pictures are accurate but don't depict the large dining room table, the large functional kitchen with modern appliances, or the beautiful sports area.

There are many places to explore beyond this community but one could be very satisfied just enjoying the sand, water, and extensive recreational complex.

The owner was very helpful and answered our many questions. I was concerned because only an email address was given and not a phone number on the VRBO website but she did give us her phone number and she was accessible when we needed her. I would have felt more comfortable with PayPal rather than a check. Although this home has been in the family for a long time, they are new to renting and she said that she just hadn't gotten around to setting up an account with PayPal yet. We found her to be very honest and she took our concerns seriously. Note that cell phone coverage is spotty but there is a house phone for incoming calls.

By the way, we loved the discount fruit and vegetable stand near the Whole Enchilada Market just north of Molera Road on Route 1. Visits to the Santa Cruz Boardwalk area and the Monterey Aquarium were highlights of our visit.

We would definitely return!
