About Dinorah Allred

This cabin was purchased for a place to come and enjoy the mountain life and cool weather in summer time. It was perfect for a few years but my father has gotten older and sadly can not make the trip any longer. So my brother and I decided to rent the cabin to help with cost of taxes, insurance and maintenance. This cabin has lots of wonderful memories for us and we continue to stay when life permits us too. For our family it has always been a place to get away from electronics and just get back to the simple things of life. Walks, music, reading, what ever suits us at the time. Food always seemed to taste better up there on the balcony with the refreshing mountain air. We are always taking lots of deep breaths...

Why Dinorah Allred chose Blue Ridge Highlands

This property was unique because you are on a small mountain top surrounded by 7+ acres. Very secluded but just down the road is a very quaint little town with lots of history. Go to for more information on the beautiful area.

Had a few issues with the property but the owner was very cooperative and took care of one of the major problems in a timely manner. However, some things couldn't be resolved at that time and owner arranged for us to stay in another location.

A cute old cabin in the middle of the mountains.

  • 4 of 5

There was plenty of places for my family of six to sleep. The back deck really let you enjoy the quiet woods around you away from it all.

There is no service on the way to the cabin, but with Verizon, my family was able to find a few spots that aloud you to gets quick directions to where you wanted to go or send a quick call or text out.

The owner was easily available during our stay, and shared the ideas to make the cozy cabin even better.

Hopefully one day I get to see the updates!

LOVED IT! Can't wait to go back!

We got to the property LATE and it was dark - bring a flashlight, and a map - no GPS :) Lots of winding roads to get there, but once we did, it was perfect! So quiet! We had a deer join us for breakfast out the kitchen window our first morning there. Everything was provided, and any problems or questions we had were quickly addressed by the owner. The kids survived just fine with no wi-fi. They found that they could play out on the deck and in the trees and have a great time. Perfect for anyone looking to get away from it all and just enjoy the peace and beauty of it all.

If you want peace and quiet. A time to relax and get away from the world..this is the place. Very nice cabin on top of a mountain, cabin was clean and had everything needed, but pick your food up in town before you get there, because once there you don't want to leave.

Secluded property in a beautiful setting but a bit outdated and shabby.

  • 3 of 5

Pros: Inexpensive. The cabin has nice sized rooms.. nice bedroom on main floor and ginormous bedroom upstairs with it's own deck. Wake up to view out the sliding glass door of the forest. Very secluded, peaceful and quiet in a beautiful wooded property.. NOT one of those where you are smashed up against a dozen other cabins with a beautiful view nothing but a dozen other cabins! Fairly close to a big river with several good walking/biking trails and kayak/boat put-ins. River tends to be very shallow and rocky though. Nice little towns nearby .. Independence very quaint. Pet friendly. Friendly people in the area at local stores, etc. Feel very safe and relaxed. Wonderful washer/dryer. Microwave and all appliances worked very well. Good hot water. Plenty of parking for 3, maybe 4 vehicles.

Cons: Most (all?) windows/doors don't have screens so letting nature sounds and fresh air/breezes in and bugs out is rather difficult. Need to provide maps because most cellphones did not work for navigation once we turned off the interstate and it was quite a long tangled route from the interstate to the cabin.. and back out again. Maps provided in the reservation process and also at the cabin would be tremendously helpful. The place charges a respectable cleaning fee but it was NOT clean when we arrived. Trash in all the trash/garbage cans, not all the beds were made, etc. Mattresses on main beds were not the optimal quality. Décor was rather random and outdated. Entire house smells strongly of mold but possibly just needs several days of airing out. Refrigerator exterior looked horrible. It worked well but exterior was corroded in many spots all over making it look filthy. Storm door is broken.

So many family memories...

  • 5 of 5

My grandfather built this cabin as a vacation home in the 80s when I just just a kid. We spent many summers here and I have many fond memories of spending time with my grandparents here! I have not been to this house in many many years since my grandparents sold it. I hope everyone who gets to stay here enjoys it as much as I did as a young boy !

Owner's Response: Hello, Finally figured out how to respond to you. I am happy to fill in any questions you have about the cabin. My father stayed at the cabin for summers but unfortunately time has crept in and he just cant stay up there alone any longer. We just put on a green aluminum roof and new propane heaters. a few other up grades too.. Please feel free to contact me. Thank you Dinorah
