|Minimum Stay||7 nights|
On the southern edge of Centro within a 5 minute walk to Parque Juarez , and a 9 minute walk to the center of San Miguel de Allende, sits Casa de Mariposas. It is situated in a very quiet and private area with no road traffic and a large, lush beautiful garden and courtyard. The furnishings are primarily contemporary with antique counterpoints and fine art. The property could accommodate a couple in the main house alone, or 4 people using both the house and a separate casita with all of the amenities.
I do occupy the studio building across the courtyard from the main house and the casita. My guests privacy is of utmost importance to me although I will occasionally need to enter the main house at pre- arranged times in order to access my car on the upper level and to handle laundry.
Upon entering the property, you enter a serene and magical world. There is a large courtyard and garden with 3 ancient trees which provide respite from the almost year round sunshine in San Miguel. The courtyard offers a Jacuzzi, a meditation area surrounded by foliage and flowers, and a hammock for reading and watching the birds and butterflies flit in and out of the overhead trees. A fountain surrounded by lush plantings and a sitting area provides soothing water music. There is also a covered loggia off the main house L.R. and kitchen with a dining table for 8 as well as a sitting area. It looks out onto the courtyard and garden area.
The main house has a very large living room with 3 couches, a fireplace, many pieces of art and sculpture and is a perfect place for large scale entertaining. There is also a full bath with shower, a dining area, a kitchen and TV room as well as an office with Internet and Vonage phone, all on the lower level.
There is a wood-burning fireplace in the TV room as well as an adjacent flower-filled patio for your morning coffee.
On the second level is a very large bedroom suite with a king sized bed, and down comforter, with a dressing room, a separate mini library with reading area and large luxurious “his and her” bathrooms. The womans bathroom has a tub and the mens bath contains a shower. There is a wood-burning fireplace in the bedroom for romantic, winter nights.
Also on the second level is a separate casita (small house) containing a large main living area with full kitchen ,sitting area, dining area, desk, large screen TV and full Internet service, and a separate bedroom, and bath. This space has lots of natural light along with excellent interior lighting.
There is a private patio adjoining the casita which looks down into the courtyard below. Additionally, the casita has a separate entrance allowing the occupants to come and go without disturbing the occupants in the main house. This lovely and well appointed casita is available for rent separately from the main house. The cost for the casita alone is dependent on the length and time of the stay and includes a housekeeper once a week. Contact me with your proposed dates for a quote.
On the roof accessible from the main house is a patio looking out onto all of San Miguel. It faces southwest, so the sunsets are quite remarkable. There is a sitting area surrounded by bougainvillias, the perfect place to have your evening wine or margaritas. And if you are planning to prepare your dinner at home, there is a garden from which you can pick your organic lettuce for a salad!
The very friendly housekeeper, Lillia, comes twice weekly and can also do your laundry for a small fee. Should you desire her more often at an extra cost, that can be discussed with her.
The calendar on the website does not take into consideration that there are 2 separate living spaces on the property. Therefore, it might indicate that the property is not available when in fact only one of the spaces is already booked. Please contact me for more information if you are interested in any or both of the accommodations.
I moved to San Miguel almost 20 years ago and have happily called it my home since then. I am an artist and have my studio on my property and share it with my 2 dogs and 2 cats who delight in keeping me company while I am working.
Carol Deal purchased this house in 2000
My husband (now deceased) and I built this house 15 years ago after much time spent searching for the perfect piece of land. We wanted something that was in the Centro area of town and at the same time, very private and this property satisfied that criteria.
I believe that this property is unique in that it is primarily my home and not simply a rental. Because of that, it is filled with treasures from all over the world, providing the guests who do come here with a very personalized space for their vacation.
Like many others, we originally came to San Miguel for a vacation and immediately fell in love with the town and its ambiance. I am still enchanted with it after over 20 years.
The sounds of the birds in the trees in the early morning, the incredible view of the entire town from the rooftop area, the 'hacienda' type architecture, the sounds of nearby church bells, the massive old trees in the main courtyard, the hammock where happy reading time is spent and much, much more. I am a designer and have spent many years collecting unusual and unique furnishings, art, and objects which I believe make the property feel like a true home, not simply a rental property.
This was a fabulous experience and the house is drop dead gorgeous, comfortable, with a collection of art that only an artist herself -- our host Carol -- could put together in the home she thoughtfully built for herself and lives in now, except for some rentals from time to time. We--my sister and friend, of a certain age, all stay in great
hotels throughout business and personal world travel. We aren't easily impressed, but this
magical house and expansive and lush grounds won our hearts. I still can't believe the hundreds of calla lillies in the garden, the sunset view from the uppermost deck, the discovery throughout two weeks of yet another wonderful piece of sculpture in the garden. Carol was good at taking care of us, anticipating what we might want to know, with wonderful wine and appetizers to greet us when we arrived, staying in touch throughout our visit to make sure all was well. We would all love to come back but we hurt our chances with yet another well-deserved review of five stars!
Four of us stayed in this spectacular home for a week and we were sad to leave. The beds were comfortable, the views of the town and mountains were breathtaking, the private gardens inviting, and the hospitality was generous. We could spread out and have privacy in spacious bedrooms with private baths, then gather in intimate sitting rooms or on one of the many outdoor terraces. The kitchen had everything we needed when we wanted to eat in, and there were dozens of fabulous restaurants an easy walk away. Carol, the owner, was gracious, taking us for a walk into town on our first morning to orient us and was always ready with tips for shopping, adventures, and dining. She is a caring, kind host. This gorgous property felt like home on our first night. We will return and stay longer next time. David Jenkins, Asheville, NC
We just concluded a one week vacation in San Miguel, renting this beautifully appointed, spacious, and strategically located home from Carol Deal. When we arrived, we were blown away by the quality of the accommodations and the gracious hospitality extended to us by Carol. This unique home has both character and spirit. There is beautiful art throughout and equally important attention to comfort and detail. We felt like royalty in this home.
As a guest who owns another property abroad, I have a special appreciation for everything Carol has done to make her home the treasure it is. Her welcome is genuine and her hospitality is real.
Carol asked us to feed her 2 dogs, Maggie and Mister several days of our one week sojourn. These 2 dogs are an absolute delight: loving, well-behaved, and stranger-friendly. They greeted us every day we returned from our trips into town. This small responsibility felt like a small way we could express our appreciation for the experience of the week.
As a physician in private practice, I plan to refer many patients and friends to this home. The experience is the best you could imagine. THIS is the place!
Everything I could ask for in a home away from home in San Miguel for a month long stay. The casita is beautifully decorated, the rooms are well equipped and comfortable, the vistas are lovely from every window. I especially liked the wonderful natural light. My host was very accommodating and I look forward to staying in the casita on a future trip to San Miguel.
I have stayed in this casita for extended periods annually for the last seven years. It has become my home away from home. It is quiet, bright, clean and wonderfully appointed. This full size apartment it totally furnished including heat for cool winter mornings, a comfortable bed and access to the owners laundry facilities, so it is an easy place to stay for extended periods. I became particularly fond of the private out door patio which overlooks San Miguel and a fabulous neighborhood restaurant just two blocks away. Access to the center of town including movie theaters, shopping and galleries is a short and easy walk. The owner, an artist, is always kind and helpful. As a long time visitor to San Miguel, this casita is by far my favorite.
I brought my business clients to this home a month ago and we had an extremely enjoyable time. We are photographers, and the rooftop view was actually BETTER than Mirador lookout at the top of the city. The owner was extremely kind and accommodating, and she keeps the grounds full of greenery. The large hammock was well used! I recommend this home to anyone.
My property is located in a prestigious area of the city and is a 9 minute walk to the center of town. The largest and very beautiful park is a 5 minute walk from the house. The property is very private with high walls and a quiet contemplative atmosphere and yet only steps away from the excitement of San Miguel.
Aside from the listed attractions in San Miguel, there are a multitude of activities to suit most any interest. Numerous art galleries with openings on several nights of the week, local tours as well as tours outside the town, remarkable musical events with performers from all over the world, live theatre, horseback riding in the nearby mountains, cooking classes and much more. You will not have time to do all that you want!!! The local English -Spanish newspaper has all the events listed for the week, so it is easy to plan your stay here.
