Stay at home and have a relaxing dinner in the dining room or by the luxurious pool or explore Centro in Merida. Casa Santa Lucia is only two blocks away, which has fantastic new restaurants and local artisan shops.
On a more personal note, when my wife and I were furnishing our house in Merida, a homeless dog was injured outside of our home. It was Mexico’s Independence Day and there was no one to come to the aid of the poor injured dog. After more than 2 hours of trying to locate some help, we finally reached Sylvia Cortes of Evolution Animals, who said “I will be right there”; for this reason and because we are both animal lovers, we vowed that we would donate 10% of the rental income to her organization. Ms. Cortes and her organization of volunteers do a terrific job for the welfare of animals in the Yucatan. This conveniently located home will make your vacation in Merida a memorable and comfortable experience. “Mi casa es su casa”.
Ellen and Tucker
My wife Ellen and I decided we would take a trip to Merida after we had sold our restaurant in Newport, Rhode Island. With all the demands of owning a restaurant for over 16 years, we had actually never taken a vacation. However, last spring, we decided to venture to Merida after we had heard of how enchanting it was from a close friend who comes every year, as well as from watching several episodes of House Hunters International.
We rented a house that we had seen on Vacation Rentals By Owner and fell in love with Merida. It is such a magical and charming city, filled with unique shops, incredibly beautiful restaurants and wonderful people. We decided that we would look at some houses to potentially purchase while we were in Merida, and Casa Santa Lucia was the second house we visited. All others paled in comparison, so we decided we would make an offer.
We love Merida and our home here and hope that anyone who decides to share our home enjoys it as well.
Tucker Harris purchased this townhome in 2012
If you decided to rental Casa Santa Lucia, not only will you enjoy all the comforts of home with all the amenities, but you will be helping the abandoned animals of the Yucatan, 10% of your rent will be donated to Evolucion Animals, run by Sylvia Cortez.
One of the best things about our home is that it is centrally located and in close proximity to local shops, restaurants and activities that Merida has to offer. It is only 3 blocks from the city square, Plaza Grande and two blocks from Santa Lucia Park, which has all the best restaurants in Merida.
Ellen and I decided that we would furnish Casa Santa Lucia to be comfortable; hence, all the furnishings are there because of their comfort. Our design is contemporary with comfort in mind, with a touch of Mexican antiques for their aesthetic beauty. We had a great time buying from local artisans as well as from little-known Cuban artist. We found a quite large beautiful cross at a small antique store close by that was found in a little village near Merida and was made from old beams. The lamps in the bedrooms and some of the pictures were bought from local artisans and artist from the park at Santa Anna’s Saturday night festival.
Relax by the pool, in the comfortable living room with the television with cable, iPod and CD stereo, watch a movie or have a drink on the roof top deck with a view of the city and the church steeples If you stay at Casa Santa Lucia, you will undoubtedly be inclined to relax, put your feet up and enjoy your stay.
Casa Santa Lucia was the perfect place to stay over the Christmas holidays. The house is gorgeous, the pool is inviting, and the location couldn't be better. We were in the heart of everything and easily walked to restaurants, places of entertainment, markets. Tucker and Ellen recommended day trips out of Merida to a sisal plantation and to Celestun to see the flamingos, which we loved.
From the first day at Casa Santa Lucia, where we were welcomed with fresh flowers, wine, and coffee, to the last day, we loved the house and the neighborhood. We will definitely return to Merida and Casa Santa Lucia.
The house was very nice. Of course it is very hot there and since electricity is fairly expensive, we opted to only use the bedroom a/c at night. So for the most part we stayed in the pool area anytime were at the house. It was wonderful! There is a bar behind the house that gets a little loud after 9:00 pm. But the location of the house is really great. Many restaurants within walking distance of a couple blocks. Lots to see in the plazas. All in all, it was a really nice getaway for us. Tucker and Ellen provided all the information you could need for a very nice stay. They provided the name of a taxi driver who was just awesome!! He was able to suggest the best Mayan ruins to see and took us to a very "cool" cenotes. Victor was a wealth of information. I would definitely come back to Casa Santa Lucia.
We have visited Merida many times and always stayed in various "casas" until we found Tucker and Ellen's Casa Santa Lucia! This was our second stay at their beautiful house and we will return again. The house has everything you need from well appointed furnishings to a gorgeous pool and patio area, ideal location and responsible and reliable home owners! It's nice to know we no longer have to search for rentals in Merida - this is our "go to" property of choice from now own and it should be yours too! A+++
We stayed in Tucker and Ellen’s house for about 2 weeks over the Christmas holidays. Not to diminish the house, but the highlight of our visit was the owners, Tucker and Ellen, and the rental manager, Yesenia. On the first night of our visit, we discovered that the air conditioning unit in the master bedroom was not working properly. We emailed Yesenia and within an hour she had responded and shortly thereafter the owners told us that they would replaced the unit. Within 24 hours, it was replaced. Yesenia, and her husband supervised the process and cleaned up afterwards. It was up and running within 24 hours of our call. It was completely painless for us!!
The house is very well located, in the Santa Ana district and within walking distance of the Cathedral Square, Santa Lucia, and many restaurants. The swimming pool is a great size and big enough for lounging and sun tanning. There is parking on the street within one block (legally).
The house is very well equipped with everything you will need for a vacation, including coffee machine, iron, washer/dryer, and microwave. The bedrooms are spacious and there is great water pressure in the showers. When we arrived, there was fruit, OJ, milk and coffee which was perfect for the next morning. The Wifi is very powerful and worked throughout the house and on the pool deck.
We had a wonderful time and again thank you Tucker and Ellen!
This house is what you dream of when you plan your trip, private but centrally located, charming and regional but with all the comforts of home. We arrived late after flying all day. Yesenia and Aaron met us at the house to show us around they had fruit, water, flowers and wine for us, it was so welcoming. My partner asked where he could go get beer and they drove him to the store, showing the highlights of the neighborhood on the way.
We could have stayed within a 4 block radius and been satisfied with the incredible restaurants, Parks and Zocalo, tourist sites but we took a day trip to Progresso, recommended by Tucker. We liked it so much, we grabbed a hotel room and stayed overnight. This house and host were fantastic, we hope to bring our family back next year and discover even more.
Tucker was wonderful to work with setting up the reservation before the trip. Yesenia and Aaron (house managers) were wonderful in greeting us and being available for check in with a late arrival. The house was completely ready for our arrival with sufficient toiletries, clean towels in each bathroom, toilet paper, etc. they gave us a thorough tour of the house including important light switches. The kitchen was stocked with coffee, juice, milk, and fruit, and plenty of water. They were knowledgeable on the area and walkable restaurants and attractions. They made themselves available for any questions. The location is perfect, walkable to whatever you might need. If definitely recommend this.
Casa Santa Lucia is located in Centro, which is in the central part of the city, close to restaurants, bars, shopping, galleries, parks, churches and anything you may need.
