About Mr and Mrs Robson

Hi, I'm Sheila. This lovely cottage has been in our family for nearly four decades. Over the years we've restored it, keeping as much of its historic character as possible, but adding in more modern features for comfort and convenience.

This was our family home for many years, our children grew up in it and loved it, then it became more of a weekend retreat. Now the children have grown up and moved away, and we can't spend as much time as we'd really like to in the cottage ourselves. But my younger daughter said - you can't sell it, we've too much emotional investment in the cottage! So for the last 13 years we've been letting it for holiday lets, so other people could enjoy it too. We have a local person to look after it for us. Many of our guests come back several times, and some want to stay for a long time. Just read the reviews on this web site and on our own web site.

Mr and Mrs Robson purchased this cottage in 1977

Why Mr and Mrs Robson chose West Oxfordshire

Well, we've said it all really. When we arrive after not being there for a while, a wonderful feeling of peace and calm comes over us, we can forget about the cares of the world. And reading through our visitors book, it's clear that many of our guests experience that too. It's a real 200 year old cottage, with lots of charm, and roses and camellias around the door. You will be woken up not by the noise of traffic, but by the birds, or by the gentle lowing of cows in the nearby field. On summer Sundays, bell-ringers from other places often come to ring the church bells. But we've got broadband, the local towns are bustling, and there are so many attractions around that you'll never get bored. Our own web site has a whole page on things to see and do in the area, so make sure you check it out.

Beautiful cottage in idylic setting - perfect!

  • 5 of 5

A beautiful cottage with lots of character. Given Blue Row cottages have a 200 year history the owners have kept the charm of the cottage in its furnishing and decoration. It is cosy, spotlessly clean and has all the modern conveniences a family expects. It is in an idyllic village setting, with a lovely garden, in easy reach by car of Oxford, Stratford upon Avon and the pretty Cotswolds villages. Lots of helpful information sent before we arrived and plenty of information at the cottage of various places to visit. We spent a lovely week with our 2 teenagers exploring the area and wouldn’t hesitate to book the cottage again. We have spent time in lots of different cottages and places in the UK over the years and Blue Row is by far one of the best cottages we have stayed in – highly recommend!

Perfect Get Away

  • 5 of 5

A lovely combination of it's old character but with the mod cons we have come to appreciate. Felt like you were away from everything, the only noise we heard was that of the many birds who visited the lovely garden. Yet so many beautiful places were only a short drive away.

Everything was clean and ready for us. Instructions were very clear and helpful. As were the owners especially when I lost all my emails including the instructions. Sheila very kindly and speedily sent them all again.

The housekeeper was available in the event of any problems.

Overall a really lovely place to stay.

A wonderful property with great location

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was wonderful, located in a great little village in the Cotswolds with easy connections to London as well. We stayed with our three (older) kids and had a wonderful time. Great charm and modern conveniences as well. Just nothing negative I could possibly say. Owners were easy to deal with and very fair in every respect.

"A Gem in the Cotswolds"

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this property for 2 weeks. What a gem we found! The cottage is everything described in the information provided by the owner but much, much more! This property exceeded our expectations. Everything about it is of the highest calibre - well-appointed kitchen; lovely dining room looking out to a manicured garden; extremely comfortable beds and a sitting room with very comfortable sofas. Its location is ideal for day trips into many of the wonderful Cotswold towns and villages. The closest town, Chipping Norton, just a 10 minute drive away, has all the services we needed. A great supermarket at the Co-op, interesting boutique shops and even a Fair came to town during our stay.

Communication before we arrived with the owner was superb. Answers to our questions were immediately given and a significant flight delay creating a huge challenge with the arrival time at the cottage was handled efficiently and very professionally by the caretaker.

The village of Swerford is charming and very quiet which only adds to the beauty. Parking was very convenient just across from the front door. An information manual prepared for guests provided information on everything within the cottage as well as clear and concise facts about local attractions; places of interest; and food and beverage places.

We have stayed at many rental properties throughout Europe but this cottage excelled in every aspect. It is ideal for a couple or a small family. Blue Row Cottage is an exemplary property and offers a wonderful experience. We highly recommend it and if we are fortunate enough to return to the Cotswolds, we hope this cottage will be available.

Wonderful holiday

  • 5 of 5

We had a very beautiful time in Blue Row Cottage. The guides and leaflets in the cottage were very helpful, and we made some nice walks in and around Swerford. We enjoyed our trips to Waddesdon, Blenheim Palace and Warwick Castle. Also, we visited Oxford and old villages of the Cotswolds, like Bourton-on-the-Water and Stratford-upon-Avon. The cottage was very well equiped, it felt like home! Many thanks!

We loved Blue Row Cottages

  • 4 of 5

Blue Row Cottages in Swerford was perfect for our family of five. It had all the charm we were hoping for in a cottage in the Cotswolds. It also had all the amenities we needed (kitchen, television, wifi, laundry).

The cottage is next door to a lovely old church. Swerford is a tiny little village, but there are lots of pubs, restaurants, supermarkets, etc very close. If you can't find what you're looking for, you're not looking properly.

The owners put together a great information kit for tenants, which we found really helpful. We found places to eat, places to visit, walks to do.

There is so much to see and do in this beautiful area: the charming scenery of the Cotswolds, changing at every turn in the road; Medieval castles, Saxon churches, Roman remains, mysterious Neolithic sites; picturesque market towns, many National Trust properties, too many stately homes with beautiful gardens to list individually, attractions for children, footpaths to walk, and wonderful pubs with real ale brewed locally. Blenheim Palace and Stratford upon Avon are within easy reach, together with other attractive Cotswold villages. If you stay a week, you'll wish it was two! Swerford is a quiet and unspoiled village around a church and village green, built out of picturesque Cotswold stone and Stonesfield slate, when the only disturbance is the occasional group of bell-ringers who come to ring the church bells in summer. There are village shops within a short drive in the next village. Our own web site ( has information about the numerous attractions & activities nearby.

Other Activities: Sightseeing, visiting stately homes

  • Although there are three bedrooms, this is an historic country cottage built in the original artisan style, with low beams and narrow staircases. The bedrooms are cosy rather than spacious, so we consider it most suitable for parties of up to 4 or 5, e.g. a family of 3 to 5, or 4 adults plus a child, rather than larger parties.
