Take a step back in time and enjoy old Nags Head charm at it's best. The larger cottage on the property, 'Surf Shack', has undergone a complete and total renovation. We just finished the kitchen this winter, brand new! It has all the modern amenities we require, plus the old school charm of 1950s Nags Head.
The Surf Shack Cottages are located on the Beach Road at MP 11, directly across from the Bainbridge Beach Access. We're just a few short steps to the beach and very close to the Nags Head Pier, restaurants, shopping and Jockey's Ridge. The Nags Head Pier has live music several nights a week in the summer. Our favorite activity (other than sunbathing, of course) is to take some cold beverages down to the beach and listen to the tunes from the comfort of our own sandy spot.
Surf Shack has 3 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, Bright airy Living Room with vaulted ceiling, Kitchen and Dining/Sunroom. The largest bedroom has a queen bed and the two smaller bedrooms have full size beds. The cottage is equipped with a new flat screen TV, cable, high speed internet, AC, laundry and a gas grill. Enjoy coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening on one of the two front porches.
Sorry to the doggies, but Surf Shack Cottages does not allow pets.
Come stay at Surf Shack Cottages, we know you'll love it!

About Stephanie Jefferson
My husband and I have been renovating historic properties since we were married 13 years ago. It's become sort of a sick obsession that we can't quit. Most of our experience has been in the Historic Fan neighborhood of Richmond, but when these old school cottages became available, we couldn't say no. We spent the several years, detail by detail, bringing The Surf Shack back to it's original condition - or even better!
Stephanie Jefferson purchased this Cottage in 2010
Why Stephanie Jefferson chose Nags Head
We knew right away this was the Nags Head property for us. We are beach lovers and you can't beat the location, just a few steps to the sand. Plus, these cottages had so much potential, they just needed someone to show them some love and care.
What makes this Cottage unique
The old 1950s Nags Head Cottages are becoming somewhat of a rarity. Many have been torn down to make room for the big mansions. Our opinion is that bigger is not always better, especially when it comes to old school cottage charm. This cottage provides a romantic getaway for two or a cozy place for mom, dad and the kids. Come relax for a bit at Surf Shack Cottages and we think you'll agree.

Charming, adorable, perfect beach shack!
The House was perfect! Steps from some of our favorite restaurants and bars. Great for a weekend getaway. Can’t wait to come again!
Our long weekend was fantastic! The cottage is adorable, nicely decorated and very beachy. We found it clean, well-stocked and ready for our arrival. Excellent location - kind of centrally located as far as things to see, places to go, etc. and directly across from the ocean.
We very much enjoyed our time here and will return on our next trip to the Outer Banks!
Cozy little hideaway
The Surf Shack was perfect for us (party of 5). Plenty of room to move around or just relax. Close to many attractions and the beach. Super nice to have an outdoor shower with hot water after the beach. Well stocked for cooking in. Very close to many restaurants and ice cream shops. Close to a nice large playground for kids and Jockey's Ridge State Park.
Thanks Stephanie for sharing your cozy place with us.
Loved this cottage
This cottage was so quaint!!! We absolutely loved our stay! Everything was there for comfort an convenient! We will come back!!
Vintage beach cottage -- cozy and conveniently located
Was in town for a long weekend -- the Surf Shack is a great place for 1 or 2 couples to spend a few days at the Outer Banks. Loved the old feel of the place -- it is a nice change of pace from the mega-houses being built nowadays. We enjoyed the short walk to the beach and to the Nags Head Pier (great breakfast spot!). We also enjoyed spending a rainy afternoon inside watching the State game.
Will definitely be on our short list of places to stay for our next trip -- thanks!
PERFECT COTTAGE SETTING CLOSE TO NAGS HEAD PIER
Easy communications and check in. If you want to have a cottage type setting this is the perfect get away! Beach access straight across street, Nags Head Pier 1/2 block away with nice place to have a drink and watch beach goers and fishermen trying their luck off pier. Lucky 12 Bar 1/2 block away which means multiple craft beers on tap and the old favorites too! Pub food if you get hungry watching football games on multiple TV's. Great kitchen and shower and my wife loved the décor! We will definitely be back again!
Our cottage is about 100 steps to the sand, just across the Beach Road. We are in walking distance to the Nags Head Pier, Lucky 12 and Tortugas. Just a short drive to Jockey's Ridge, Wright Museum, Historic Manteo and lots more. Please note that Surf Shack is located right on the Beach Road. The road can get busy, particularly on the weekend. Most guests don't have a problem with this, and find the proximately to the beach makes up for any traffic noise.
