Overview

St. Simons Island Cottage Rental Photos and Description

2 Bedrooms (Sleeps 4), 2 Baths, front porch, screened porch, back deck.

Pet Friendly! Located on one of the more tree-canopied streets on the island, our home will provide you with the perfect vacation getaway you have been looking for. The live oaks that cover this area give you the feeling like you are in your own world. Once you park your car under the carport in the back, you may not need to use it again during your stay.

We are in a convenient location at the south end of the island, just about a 10-minute (0.4 mile) walk to the beach and 15-minute (0.7 mile) walk to the village. We are also centrally located to many great restaurants and fun activities for the whole family to discover. Cummings Lane is a very cozy, quiet, and peaceful location. It is only one block long with more people walking than driving. The trees and landscaping provide a sense of privacy and seclusion from neighbors. It is truly our favorite street on the island.

The open style floor plan and outdoor porches provide for very comfortable living. The bedrooms each have their own bathroom and can be considered to be their own suite. Amenities include cable TV, wireless internet access, a large hot/cold outdoor shower, large back deck, fully-equipped kitchen, and more.

As new owners in 2013, we made many improvements to the property while we were snowbirding during the winter/early spring. We removed the carpet and put down wood flooring. We installed a new dishwasher and water heater and replaced all shower heads and faucets. There is a new blue ray player and flat screen TV in the living room and a DVD player and flat screen TV in the master bedroom. There is also a flat screen TV in the 2nd bedroom. Outside in the front we built a paver path and put in many new plants in the front yard.

Our 2014 improvements included a large deck out back and an outdoor hot water shower, new deck furniture, and landscaping in the backyard (including a Meyers lemon tree and grapefruit tree). We made another big improvement at the request of several of our guests last year. We added fencing and gates to completely enclose the backyard so pets can roam freely.

This past winter/early spring 2015 on St. Simons Island was great! We had plenty of time to relax, but we also made more enhancements to make the cottage even better. We replaced the living room furniture with a new sofa and loveseat and coffee tables, painted both bathrooms and the kitchen, added a new ceiling fan in the living room, bought a new TV for the 2nd bedroom, built a new paver path out the back door, and replaced the roof. We also built a raised bed in the back that serves as our vegetable garden in the winter and flowers for you in the warmer months. We hope you enjoy all we have done.

The cottage has all that you will need for a great vacation getaway and so we provide all the basic essentials we could think of. In addition to typical items like toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, and tissues we also provide plastic wrap and bags, laundry supplies, hand soap, dishwasher soap, coffee filters, spices, and beach towels and cart. There is even a small cooler with those blue ice things in the freezer ready for you first day on the beach. Our overall philosophy is to have you arrive at a home that has what you need without having to immediately run out to Winn-Dixie. Yes, you will need to get food, but at least that can wait until you have had a good night’s sleep and your morning coffee…you will even find a packet of coffee for your first morning in the cottage. We really have everything you need!

We have had the best guests and are excited about continuing to share our home as a vacation rental that is both warm and inviting. We will make every effort to provide you with a comfortable home away from home, great service when needed, and an overall ideal vacation experience.

If you have more than 4-6 people, we are happy to work with our next door neighbor (vrbo 96191) to try to accommodate a larger group.

About Linda or Art

We are retired teachers, but still work part time. We found out about St. Simons Island by chance and fell in love with the village, beach, and people. Being originally from a rural area, we that found St. Simons gives us the same comfortable feeling of home that we hope you get the chance to experience too. We have a rescued dog who is a certified therapy dog. Buddy loves to go to schools where the children read to him. This is a very pet-friendly island. The beach is a great place for dogs and you can also bring your dog to dine with you at any restaurant with outside seating. It is in this light that we have made our home pet friendly too. We have now happily owned the cottage for over two years and have had the most wonderful guests visit. We wanted to make our cottage a warm and inviting, well-equipped rental home and have been told by many that we did just that. And we have plans to make it even better each year. During your stay, please feel free to contact us any time you feel the need. We're happy to share our home and are sure you'll love St Simons Island, Cummings Lane, and our cottage for your vacation.........Art and Linda

Linda or Art purchased this cottage in 2012

Why Linda or Art chose St. Simons Island

We have been vacationing on St. Simons Island many years, including spending two winters as renters before purchasing this cottage. We feel so lucky to have found this home on one of the most beautiful streets on St. Simons Island. We have stayed in the cottage every winter since 2013 and are looking forward to many more winters here. We know you will love it as much as we do.

What makes this cottage unique

Since we spend our winters here every year and know the home so well, we can offer you a cottage in excellent condition. Considering the yearly enhancements and continued routine maintenance, we know our cottage will provide you with a vacation that is as free from problems as possible. This is one of the many things that makes our cottage stand out among the rest. We are here every year to take care of it all. Another benefit of renting from owners who consider the cottage as home for four or five months every year is that you are sure to have all the comforts you would need. The kitchen is fully stocked with quality appliances, dishes, pots and pans, spices, and many other items you would need for those who enjoy eating in.

The master bedroom has its own bathroom, but if you check out the floor plan (last item in the group of photos) you can see that the second bedroom can be considered to have its own private bathroom as well. That bathroom, just off the dining area, is within the alcove entrance to the second bedroom. The outer door of the alcove can be closed off at night creating another private bedroom/bathroom master suite. This makes the home ideal for one or two couples or for families with children. There is a dining area that seats four plus, another dining area in the screened porch, and a patio dining set for four on the back deck. The living room has two comfortable couches, a flat screen TV, games and books. The front porch is my favorite spot with a great porch railing at the perfect height for putting your feet up while sipping a glass of wine. Enjoy!

Perfect

This cottage made for the perfect vacation. The cottage is lovely and comfortable and the fenced in yard is beautifully landscaped and provided a safe place for the fur babies to play. It is walking distance to the village, beaches, and a short bike ride to the local produce stand and seafood shop. The owners are great and have thought of everything to make their home your home during your stay. Did I mention the outdoor shower? Just awesome showering under the bright blue sky with the sun shining in. We're ready to book our next vacation here.

A Sweet Cottage

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was so comfortable -- gorgeous landscaping, inviting front porch, a screened in lounging/dinning area and comfortable interior. Just perfect in every way. We shared the cottage with another couple--plenty of room. The kitchen was well stocked and well used-- mostly for breakfast and snacks, as we enjoyed the many good restaurants in the area. We would certainly recommend this cottage and would not hesitate to plan a return visit!

We loved the house and it's amenities. The house house has everything you need such as laundry facilities, dishwasher, linens provided, great furnishings, blue ray, wifi, and a wonderful fenced in backyard and outdoor shower. We walked to the town area everyday our trip. This house is great for a family, two couples or even just a romantic getaway!!

A great getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our plans changed at the last minute and my wife got lucky and was able to book Art and Linda's place at the last minute. Upon arrival, our expectations were exceeded by this modest and charming little house. Located in a quiet neighborhood, it is very private with large trees and high fences in the back yard, which we appreciated for our little dog, as well as the invigorating outdoor shower! We liked the shower so much, we never used the ones inside.

The inside is clean and inviting, and includes all the amenities you would ever need: internet, cable TV, blu-ray, fully equipped kitchen, laundry, etc., but there is so much to do and see on the island, as well as great restaurants, if you're sitting around watching TV and cooking in, you're missing out! We found the bed quite comfortable with nice quality soft sheets. Towels for the showers are provided. The front door locks with a keypad, which is great as there is no house key to lose and no risk of getting locked out.

The pier/lighthouse area, as well as the beach and all the restaurants there, are no more than a mile from the house. We didn't mind walking, but don't expect anything to be less than 10 minutes away by foot. Many people on the island use bicycles or golf carts to get around.

Overall, we highly recommend this house for one or two couples looking for a romantic and secluded house that is great for dogs and offers all the comforts of home at a reasonable price.

A wonderful getaway on St. Simons Island, GA

  • 5 of 5

As long-time visitors to the Georgia coastal islands, this house was a great find. Early November was the time we chose this year; and these accommodations couldn't have been better for these two retirees and our dog. It seems like all the details of what we need in a house, had been thought of and supplied in thoughtful ways. The furniture was comfortable and carefully chosen, the kitchen was well equipped, and the front porch, back patio and screened room all added to the enjoyment of the home. The entire property was well maintained. Had we needed it, it was also good to know that a local housekeeper was just a call away; as were the owners for any questions. The only initial annoyance was the land phone which rang often with solicitation calls; it was unplugged on the first night.

We tend to usually cook local seafood and produce, rather than go out. Both are plentiful in the Fall. The best shrimp and fish we've found is at the City Market in Brunswick. One of the SSI shopkeepers mentioned that a new fresh seafood place has opened near the hospital in Brunswick (a woman's name?), but we haven't tried it yet. There were still some produce stands open near the airport and Redfern Village.

St. Simons is full of shops, restaurants, etc. A favorite shop for eclectic home stuff is "Simons" on Mallory St. in the village. In the same area, "Nature's Gifts" has beautiful jewelry, including a huge selection of fresh water pearl pieces. "Barbara Jean's" has excellent crab cakes (Tidewater Maryland/Virginia style), but tends to be crowded during the high season and holidays. Café Frederica clearly has the best shrimp salad sandwich on the planet; it's not in the Village, but a bit further out, off of Frederica Rd. The best beach for walking, sitting on a bench, or birding is the Gould's Inlet area of East Beach. There's a very small parking lot, but the space turnover is pretty fast.

However you prefer to spend vacation time, St. Simons is a good choice. This house on Cummings Lane is certainly at the top of our numerous vacation rental experiences. Thank you to the owners, Art & Linda, for making this home available.

Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

My Mom, my dog Liberty, and I just got back today from a wonderful week at Art & Linda's lovely cottage. The cottage is just as nice and spacious as it looks in the photos and was clean, comfortable and well-stocked with everything you could possibly need. Beds and sofas were comfy! I have stayed in several other Homeaway rentals in different places and this cottage was the best. Art & Linda have taken care to make this feel like a home and we felt welcome from the minute we walked in - including a bottle of wine, chocolates and a dog biscuit on the dining room table :-) We thoroughly enjoyed the Village and walking through the shaded neighborhoods. We ate lunch at Palm Coast in the Village three times (one lunch we took to Hofwyl Plantation to have a picnic on the beautiful grounds). Highly recommend Del Sur Bakery on Ocean Blvd.!! Everyone I spoke to - from servers to shopkeepers to fellow dog walkers - was so friendly. This was our first visit to St. Simons and we definitely want to return! Thank you Art & Linda for sharing your sweet cottage!
