Hello Folks, We are Andy and Sheila. We live here on the mountain right down the road . The tree house is a six year dream come to life. We bought and retired here with a dream of building a place where we and others could relax and recharge and even play a little. We have been married thirty years and counting. Andy came from Iowa, Sheila (me) was raised only 40 miles from Monteagle. The mountain offered such beauty, we had to be here! We Love It and we believe you will too.
Sheila purchased this studio in 2012
When we started looking for a place to retire we came to the mountain just sight seeing. It seemed that every time we decided to wander, we ended up right back here. Ultimately, we had a plan to have a place where people can unplug and recharge. Life is so busy, it is nice sometimes to get away from it all. So, we purchased almost eighteen acres here. The treehouse is the first to be built for our plans of a retreat. Ultimately, we want to have a couple of places for people to come and relax and enjoy nature.
We fell in love with the land! Trees fifty feet tall, the valley with the tiny stream. We built our home here first. Andy had the idea of his tree-house, He designed and just finished it. Not just a plain little room but open exposed beams, kind of like the main house. Whimsy bath with a fossil sink, water can shower and rustic style. The open kithcen has the essentials for cooking and and 50's dinette set. Blast from the past is one way of describing it. But, Of course we had to have the comforts of home. The covered porch overlooks the small valley and opposite hillside of the property. Most folks are loving the swing and there is a small dinette. We are only three miles from town, but our location is on a dead end road (paved). We are within a 15-20 minute drive to most of the hiking trails and waterfalls of the area. The tree house is approximately 100 feet off the main road down in the trees. Privacy is given when you visit here.
This our third stay at The Hummingbird in eight months. Can you tell we love this place? It is relaxing and a good place to unwind. I think Shelia sprinkles fair dust before we come. LOL We can unwind and nobody is close to bother you. We love the quiet and the nature. Everything is right there and no need to leave. We cook and watch tv and enjoy the hot tub. Will be back soon.
We had a wonderful stay. Very restful. Peaceful and quiet. The space was eclectic and cozy. Just what we needed!
We are about to spend an extra night because it is just so wonderful. The folks are incredibly attentive and sweet, and this property is lovely/well kept. I didn't expect all the thought into little things we might want or need.... Like having the hot tub ready to go, wood to start a fire in the pit outside, two little grills outside for grilling, playing cards, a few DVDs, the kitchen stocked with things like salt/pepper/condiments/etc. I'm used to staying in state park cabins... And this place had countless little things to make our stay more comfortable. And the twinkle lights outside were so perfect when we sat in the hot tub!! Just love this place. It is magical and we shall be returning. :)
Sheila was very nice and answered all our questions. Only issue was cleanliness, as several appliances we used in the kitchen and the living room coffee table were sticky, along with dust and old spider webs everywhere on the ceiling. We paid a separate cleaning fee, it should have been clean.
I had been looking at pictures of the treehouse for several years and finally got to stay. It was everything I had imagined and more. It is a rustic, comfortable, cozy cabin. I loved seeing the trees from all the windows and sitting on the deck. I stayed one night by myself and friends joined me for the rest of my stay. We enjoyed the cabin so much, but we did get out and visit other places -- Natural Bridge, Foster Falls, University of the South campus -- and ate at The Blue Chair. I love shopping at Mooney's Emporium in Monteage. They were all great places to see and I know there's a lot more to see in the area. I want to return and stay at the treehouses again. It is such a wonderful place to take a vacation and enjoy nature. Sheila and Andy are wonderful hosts. Sheila made me feel welcome from the time I arrived and Andy was great with information about the area. I wish you both the best and hope to return again and again. Donna -- Rogersville, Alabama
We had found this property a few years ago on VRBO. We finally had a chance to stay here. It was a much needed few days away and we could not wait to get to the cabin. We found it with ease and were so surprised on how nice it was. The owner maintains this property with great care. We found it to be very clean. The place is amazing. The towels and linens were soft a smelled as if they were my own. There were some basic staples in the refrigerator, spices and coffee as well. We loved our stay and cannot wait to return again. CC
