Thank you for your hospitality, we really enjoyed our holiday in Monflanquin and the Gite was great. I will definitely recommend you to friends and colleagues at work.

You never know we may be back one day. I think it was one of our favourite areas in France so far.

Perfect setting.

We had a most enjoyable 10 days stay here. The accommodation is very clean and comfortable with a great upstairs bedroom, balcony and bathroom. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you could want for cooking, even down to a dishwasher. Although attached to the owner's house, it still feels very private and peaceful as you have your own entrance and terrace space etc. The pool is a reasonable size and along with a terrace to sunbathe, overlooks picturesque countryside with far reaching views. It only takes 10/15 minutes to walk into the centre of Monflanquin village which has some good restaurants. We stayed late in the season, at the end of September and were lucky to enjoy some very pleasant weather and temperatures in the late 20s. The town did feel very quiet however, and a lot of things in the area had closed for the season, so maybe if we visited again we would come earlier in the year. All in all a very enjoyable holiday and we were made to feel very welcome by our hosts Alison and John who were on hand to help with anything as needed. Thank you :-)

A quiet retreat

  • 5 of 5

This was our first holiday in this area and we were spoilt with glorious weather, a stunning pool, and peace and quiet for relaxing. The gite is spotlessly clean, small but well appointed and comfortable. John and Alison are excellent hosts and whilst always available to help, are unobtrusive. We enjoyed daily walks in the gentle rolling landscape and outings to the beautiful bastide villages nearby (especially Penne d'Agenais); a visit to the Jardin des Nenuphars at Le Temple sur Lot was a particular highlight. Afternoons by the pool with a good book and a glass of local wine were a treat, and the Lebanese restaurant in Monflanquin is simply unmissable.

Peace and quiet in an interesting area.

  • 5 of 5

We have just spent a relaxing week in this delightful property. Alison & John were charming & solicitous hosts who looked after us well. The property is fine for two people and has a well equipped kitchen and lovely bathroom. The setting is beautiful, with an impressive view of Monflanquin from the bedroom balcony. English & French TV were both easily accessible - not always the case in our experience! The pool was spotlessly clean and just the right temperature. There was plenty to do without having to go too far afield. Monflanquin was interesting and within walking distance (with an excellent bakery en route!). We also enjoyed visits to Montpazier, Château de Biron, Château de Bonaguil and the market at Castillonnès. We booked dinner one evening, and Alison produced a delicious meal. Thank you to both Alison & John for a very enjoyable break.

Lovely relaxing place, with plenty to do nearby

  • 4 of 5

Ideal for 2 people. Very clean, nice decor, equipped with everything you need, lovely pool and pool area. Attached to owners' property but with separate entrance. It's a very peaceful place.

Owners gave us good suggestions of places to visit, all within a half hour drive. The best places we went to were Montpazier, Villereal (Saturday market), Chateau Biron and Penne d'Agenais. All interesting to look round and good places for lunch. Monflanquin itself is also very pretty, genuinely walking distance (and downhill on the way home). It has a bakery, 5 restaurants/ bars, a good market on Thursday morning, and an evening market on the same day, with lots of food stalls and live music. It’s a 5 minute drive to a Casino supermarket. The Dordogne river (a bit more appealing than the Lot) is about an hour's drive north. We hired a canoe and enjoyed a relaxing paddle past several chateaux, stopping for a picnic along the way, surrounded by beautiful scenery. We also did a couple of good 2 hour country walks around Monflanquin (maps in the folder), after which it was nice to sit in the shade outside a bar at the top end of the square, having a drink.

We'd definitely recommend this place.

Really nice gite, walking distance from Monflanquin.

Well equipped and comfortable. Good British TV and WiFi.

Unfortunately the weather wasn't brilliant but plenty to do in the area.

Luxurious Holiday Home

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Les Jumelles for the last five summers and the facilities are 10 out of 10 from the well equipped kitchen which has everything if you want to eat in although there are plenty of restaurants in Monflanquin which is a leisurely 15mn walk.

We have been spoilt for choice between sitting in the garden or on the balcony of an evening with a chilled glass of wine and also the exclusive use of the well kept swimming pool with the choice of sun or shade.

Alison & John are also on had if you need to ask about anything without being intrusive.

We decided next summer we need to go somewhere different in France and must say we are finding it really difficult to find anything that matches what Les Jumelles has to offer.

And we know at some stage we will be back.

La Maison d'Amis is on the southern edge of Monflanquin and offers that rarely found combination of being in the countryside yet within a 10/15 minute walk of the town. Monflanquin, a pretty 13C Medieval Bastide Town founded during the 100 years war, sits high on a hill, its two church towers silhouetted on the skyline can be seen for miles around justifying its well earned title of L'un des Plus Beaux Villages de France (One of the most beautiful villages of France). Cobbled Alleys lead to a central Arcaded Square where the Weekly Market is held and Restaurants and Bars can be found. During the summer months there are Music, Art Exhibitions and Medieval Festivals reflecting the towns cultural heritage. Situated in gently rolling countryside between the picturesque Dordogne and Lot Valleys are numerous places of interest to visit, prehistoric sites, chateaux, gardens and many other Bastide towns. For wine and food lovers the area is famous, sample its gastronomic specialities and enjoy tasting wine from the many local vineyards.

Notes:
The friendly but unintrusive owners live on site and are available should you have any queries or require further information about the local area, places to visit or local restaurants. We have owned the property since 1991, living in Monflanquin on a full time basis since 2000 and are happy to share with you our experiences of living in France, if you so wish. Les Jumelles is a large house located in its own extensive 1 hectare (2.5 acres) of grounds. The pool and its terrace are for your exclusive use giving you maximum privacy during your stay as we have our own separate terrace away from the pool. Guests pets are not allowed as we have our own very large, friendly but rather timid cat called Charlie, therefore whilst we endeavour to keep him away from guests those with cat allergies should be aware of this.
