All the amneties for a several-night stay away from home and then some!!!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second stay over Christmas at Kathy's Bohemian Suite. It was a perfect fit for us two adults and our mini schnauzer, Murphy.

It was quite conducive for Murphy's activities and provided peace of mind for us who can't bear to board our pet, especially one with separation anxiety. The house has two rental suites on one end of the house and a state-regulated commercial kitchen for Kathy's preparation of her artisan 85% chocolate bar on the other. It is located on a looped street with only one inlet/outlet in a heavily wooded, quiet, low-traffic area perfect for dog walking. Kathy has provided a large fenced-in area in her backyard for a pet's exploration. Murphy's favorite amenity was the heated tile floor in the shower/Jacuzzi/vanity area.

For Charlie and me, our three most important requirements were met via the king-sized bed with a great mattress and luxurious linens, more than plenty hot water and cleanliness of the unit...and we loved the heated tile floor, also! Charlie enjoyed his morning/later night cable TV and wifi. It was necessary to sit at the desk in order to use his tablet, but since we were rarely at the suite, this was a very minor inconvenience, and we just depended on our phones. The suite was designed as an open concept. There's a behind-closed-doors kitchenette with a small apartment-sized fridge/freezer unit, toaster oven, microwave, as well as, all of the other amenities needed. There's not room for another sink, but since we intended to eat all of our meals out, this presented no problem for us. We took Solo cups to drink out of and a small cooler of ice (and would have taken paper plates had we desired to eat leftovers). A full breakfast could be cooked with no problems. A wooden table with two chairs, a huge walk-in closet, an upholstered bench, and a chair and an ottoman are also provided.

The suite is centrally located to everything Asheville has to offer...downtown, Grove Park Inn, Biltmore Estate, Biltmore Village and great restaurants, all of which we took advantage. Kathy leaves you some of her chocolate and requests that you let her know before your arrival of your preference for beer or wine. The couple of times we texted Kathy, she was texting us back within a minute. She is most gracious, accommodating and eager to make your stay enjoyable.

We have stayed here twice in three years and would recommend it to our friends.

Not a perfect experience, but still nice

  • 4 of 5

The directions to the property from owner Kathy were clear. It's less than a 10 min drive or Uber to downtown. You COULD walk there but it'd take a good 45 mins. Some of the features are better than average, such as the large Jacuzzi tub, heated tiles and heat lamps outside the shower door. It's tastefully decorated and plenty big enough for two. I have to nitpick a few things though:

- The wifi signal was very weak, as soon we stepped out from the short hallway where the computer desk is it would drop to very low and then cut in and out every few minutes. Apparently the owner reset the router but we just ended up just using our 4G data as it was too much of a hassle.

-There was no monitor at that desk as pictured, just a mouse and keyboard. We wouldn't have cared if the wifi was working, but since it wasn't that could have been useful to have.

-You can't regulate the main temperature from within the unit, the owner controls it separately. There is an electric fireplace though, just at first the space was a little cold and took a bit to warm up.

-The outside patio needs more lighting. We had a little trouble seeing the keyhole when returning at night. Maybe also some more stones leading to the gate ahead of the door as it got a little muddy due to the rain.

-The water pressure in the shower was just OK. Plus the removable head was spraying at the seem so we didn't use that.

-The light on the magnifying bathroom mirror did not work.

-The Keurig machine was not working properly (I've owned one and know how they are supposed to function). There were cream packets in the fridge but they were old and spoiled.

-There is no washer and dryer in the unit as the amenities list. I believe the owner can take care of a load for you for an extra charge, but it's misleading to list those as being in the actual unit.

-There was not any beer or wine in the kitchenette as described. I texted Kathy and she made sure a 6 pack was delivered promptly. The description made it sound like that would already be there when we arrived. Not a big deal at all but worth a mention.

I don't mean to list all this to make it sound like it's not a good place to stay, it is and Kathy was always prompt and friendly in responding to our questions and concerns. However I want to make people aware of what we perceived as the negatives so the owner can look into them. I'd say my main gripe was the poor wifi. Overall though I'd recommend a stay here!

Perfect place to stay in Asheville

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Kathy’s studio was wonderful! She met us when we arrived and showed us the place. She is very friendly and welcoming. The studio is actually bigger in person than it looks in the pictures. The studio is very clean and well maintained. The bed was very comfortable and we absolutely loved the luxurious bathroom. The kitchenette was perfect for fixing a simple breakfast and keeping the leftovers we had from the amazing restaurants downtown. The location was perfect. Within 5 minutes of driving we were downtown and in 12 minutes we were on the Biltmore Estate. At the condo we had our own parking spot which was very convenient.

The fenced backyard was perfect for our dogs. I loved staying here for 5 nights. We will definitely stay here from now on when visiting Asheville!

Comfortable stay at this warm and inviting suite

  • 5 of 5

My family and I (husband and two young kids) had a great stay at this cozy suite. Kathy was a kind and welcoming host, who accommodated everything from a VERY late night check-in to rushing a plunger to our side when we needed it. The suite is spacious, as well as very comfortably and tastefully appointed. The huge shower, tub and king-sized bed were special treats. The kitchenette was just the right size for us to keep snacks/breakfast/leftovers on-hand for ourselves and our two little ones. The walk-in closet made unpacking and re-packing easy. A very easy 5-ish minute drive to downtown (or about a 17 minute jog if you run it--I did!) We'd recommend this property to anyone.

Luxury might be overstating it...

  • 3 of 5

From the pictures we knew this would be an eclectically furnished home but quite frankly we were a little disappointed. The furniture was largely in disrepair. Lots of the "upgrades" looked pretty rough and there was lots of clutter. The biggest disappointment of all though was the shower/bath tub. They don't appear to have enough water pressure to fully operate the two person shower so while it seems like a great perk there really isn't enough water pressure for it to work like it should. It seemed like the water must come from the main house because occasionally while showering it would seem like someone flushed a toilet but we hadn't. The bathtub was a whole other disappointment. I knew it would take quite a long time to fill the bathtub because of the low water pressure so finally one night I decided to turn it on, watch some tv, and then get in. Once it finally filled I got in and turned on the jets and was immediately surrounded by some sort of gunk. I was so disgusted I immediately leapt out to scrub myself off in the shower. I don't know if they don't clean this between guests and it was leftover soap scum or what but it was DISGUSTING. Needless to say I didn't attempt another bath. Another thing that I didn't feel like I was really aware of is that this is immediately attached to another apartment that they rent out. Basically there is a doorway with a sheet covering it between this place and the other. Also the occupants of the other place have to walk right past your bedroom windows every time they come home. Which, when you have a wedding party staying next to you that comes home at 2am, can be frustrating. Overall we won't be staying there again but for the money it was an alright option for those with pets. The location is absolutely perfect, it just felt like there were a few too many minor inconveniences to deal with.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that the property seemed to have some issues! ,Of course we clean the whole suite including the Jacuzzi tub. We have never had a complaint about it before! We wish you had told us when you were there about the concerns. We would have immediately assisted. All of the many great 5 star reviews over the past 4 yrs prior do not seem to show this to be an issue. We did have some public works people working on the road prior and that could have caused the water pressure issue. Again, wish we had known!

A perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

The studio suite was perfect. My husband and I hated to pack up and leave, but unfortunately reality was calling. Everything here was wonderful. Very peaceful and secluded; coffee and Kuerig was provided. A large enough mini fridge to do a little grocery shopping or bring home leftovers~

The bed was wonderful and the hot tub was so relaxing! During the day, we were able to drive to local breweries and Blue Ridge Parkway and simply explore what the area had to offer, and in the evenings; we were able to use Uber to explore the micro breweries and nightlife. And every Uber ride into town and home was $6-$8...I couldn't have asked for a better stay. We will definitely be back :)

Kathy, the owner, was easy to contact before arriving and after arriving and was very clear about everything that was available. We highly recommend staying here for any amount of time for a simple getaway and home away from home vacation spot.

You will love the the small town feel of Asheville with all the amenities of a larger city. It has been called the 'Paris of the South.' We are within 1 mile of downtown with nationally raved about eateries and great music at the Orange Peel and many other venues. We are home to the Moog Fest, Bele Chere, and many other great music and arts festivals. The River Arts district is only a couple of miles away as well with over 50 professional artists working in their studios. The Blue Ridge Parkway has access to numerous hiking trails and the Pisagh National Forest is just a few miles away as well.
