Guestbook comments from the owner

Our large extended family !some from far flung places met up here during the autumn school break , we wanted somewhere the children were safe to run and play together without us having to watch out for them all time ,leaving us adults the time to catch up , this place did not disappoint the grounds are vast and the children had a fantastic time exploring

The house was warm and cosy well decorated and comfy beds .

A large hypermarket close by and local market provided us with all we needed in way of food and drink which we enjoyed preparing in the large kitchen ,we sampled local ciders and calvados and many good bottles of French wine ,

Martin & Pauline were around in the background if we needed help re directions places to go,but most of our time was spent here as the children were just so happy .

We visited Avon coutainville and had a lovely beach walk to Blainvile sur mer famous for its mussels and oysters which we bought from one of many sheds dotted around and ate that evening fresh from the sea ,what more can you ask for

Idyllic setting ,great French wine fresh local produce !!!!!!

MANY THANKS to you both for making our stay enjoyable we will be telling our friends about you

Ideal for families and groups lots of space

A big thank you to Martin and Pauline, we received a friendly welcome on arrival to a very clean house with the table laid for supper. Martin will say he is the best cook in France!!!! and we have to agree he is. We live in a busy city and have eaten in lovely restaurants... Martin's food is better!!! We arranged for Martin to cook for us on three nights plus supper on arrival. He and Pauline are amazing hosts, he even got us waitressing! Having our supper cooked enabled us to go out for the day and not have to worry about where we were going to eat. The whole week was amazing, back at home now we miss the sound of the water outside the Mill House. In respect of top tips, don't forget the shops and restaurants in France close for a couple of hours between 12.00 and 14.00 (it's fine if you like baguettes and pastries as the patisseries are open). The sites are easily accessible and the food reasonable. The only thing we would of liked was a DVD player in the house, but I'm sure this is an easy fix to keep the young ones happy on a rainy day. Apart from that Martin and Pauline keep up the good work, you gave us the space and the interaction perfectly to make our holiday special and you have made us realise how lovely France is and we are hoping to come back and visit again soon xx

Beautiful Country Property

  • 4 of 5

Beautiful property, quiet and peaceful setting with plenty of space. We were 3 couples from the USA enjoying a week in the area. We stayed in the Mill House the last week of May and found the location well situated to visit the WWII sites, Bayeaux, St. Malo, Mont St. Michele, Villedieu and the coast.

The property was clean and ready for our arrival. We did arrange for the dinner on arrival it was a great start to our week. We also had Martin prepare another dinner for us on Thursday and it was also very good. I would highly recommend both the arrival meal and at least another meal prepared during the week. The house is several kilometers from town so staying in is a nice option for the evening.

Another recommendation Martin made was to visit La Cale, "the worst restaurant in France" I think is how it is billed. We highly recommend a visit to this very laid back restaurant with great mussels and oysters.

I would recommend this property for a family or a group of friends. The bedrooms are spacious and 3 bathrooms were a must for our group. The kitchen and dining room was our gathering spot and we enjoyed a fire in the living room each evening as our weeks weather was unfortunately a bit cold and damp.

We were out and about each day seeing different cities and sites and because of the weather we didn't spend as much time on the property as we would have liked but the grounds are well maintained and on a sunny day would be a great place to sit and relax or hike on the property.

Martin & Pauline are good hosts and again I highly recommend the arrival meal, it helps getting settled in for the week so nice. We found the property as described on the rental site.

Perfect - except for the rain!

  • 4 of 5

The eight of us arrived in the rain and a week later left in the rain. But it didn't dampen our spirits any for our lovely stay at Martin and Pauline's Mill House. They have done a marvelous job of transforming an old ruin of a mill into a comfortable, stylish yet rustic, warm and inviting place in which to stay. There was plenty of room for all of us; each of the 5 bedrooms decorated differently. The location is very picturesque - from the other two stone buildings situated close by to the two streams, the wooded area and the countryside surrounding.

We had Martin, a chef, and Pauline, the baker, make us 4 wonderfully delicious meals. We must admit that after continuing on to spend a full month in France, their food was the best we had - and that includes several restaurants in Paris! The only regret we have is that we couldn't take advantage of having one of their delicious meals outdoors.

Courcy and Coutances are ideally situated to make sightseeing easy. Within easy driving distance are Mont St. Michel, the D-Day Beaches, Bayeux, Caen and Falaisie -- all of which are worthy of visits.

We all would recommend a stay and several meals prepared by Martin and Pauline the next time you are in Normandy.

Fantastic Holiday

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Martin and Pauline for a terrific family holiday this past summer. The house is wonderful -- everything one needs in a French country property, and more. The rooms were very tastefully done and spacious, great provision of bathrooms too! The surrounding countryside is gorgeous and we and all the kids (ages ranging from 6-14) had a blast. Martin's cooking is wonderful, and the hospitality was great. We would definitely recommend!

HOUSEPARTY 2010

  • 5 of 5

It was lovely to revisit our hosts Martin and Pauline at their new idylic venue.

Once you find the entrance gate you drive down through the estate for a warm welcome. The house was far byond our expectations with ensuite rooms firnished with great style and originality. The luxury beds and linen were a highlight.

The Mill house is extremely well equiped for self catering and can be enhanced by our hosts dinners in their cookery school, should you want themThe estate with it lake, gardens and woods is perfect for a peaceful getaway for all ages.

It is only a few minutes from Coutance and about 20 minutes from the sea with oyster/mussel beds, fine sand and ice creams

The D Day landing beaches,Bayeux and Mont St Michel are all within one hours travel

Martin and Paulines hospitality and humour adds to the overall enjoyment of the holiday
