This holiday home is tastefully decorated and is spacious enough to be comfortable even for a long holiday. The lounge/dining area on the ground floor is bright, cheerful yet cosy. Also on the ground floor is the large separate kitchen and a shower room while on the 1st floor you'll find three large double bedrooms and one of them with a child's bed. There's also another shower room and a separate toilet. One floor up you'll find the real jewel of this house: a beautiful large open terrace of 45 m² with great views of the village and surrounding countryside and a handy summer kitchen. The terrace is fully south facing and is totally private. It's a great place to enjoy that nightcap just before bedtime. In the morning you wake up under the gentle sunbeams with a cup of coffee and some fresh croissants from the bakery at the corner. Even in winter, the terrace is a very nice place to enjoy the sunny south of France. If you want we can organize your first breakfast meal when you arrive.

We enjoyed 3 weeks in January in La Redorte while helping a friend renovate his flat nearby. The house was a convenient base, with excellent facilities, including a wood burning stove which kept us cosy when we encountered some unexpected snow on arrival! La Redorte is well-placed for exploring the Canal du Midi and villages surrounding Carcassonne and Narbonne, where there are lots of vineyards in evidence. We would highly recommend the cottage - which has the added advantage of the handy roof terrace to relax and recuperate after a busy day.
From the start we felt immediately at home. The property was clean, and comfortable.
The roof terrace was especially nice. Great location and, as birdwatchers, we saw beautiful birds like the hoopoo and swarms of bee eaters (side note: we read a review before leaving saying the furniture was worn out, but the owners renewed it recently).
Incidentally, we left the key of the house inside and had to call the owner. He answered immediately and we had quick access again to the house. Great service!
All in all, great area, especially if you love nature, french villages and great food (we recommend the restaurant in Aigne and one in Lagrasse!).
We really enjoyed our stay here. The cottage was very French, you always felt as though you were in France even as you climbed in and out of bed.
The roof terrace is in need of new furniture and will then be more reflective of the picture. Having said that the terrace makes the prperty into something special we spent most of our time when at home out there. The summer kitchem makes this a real possibility.
The stairs in the property are narrow and steep, be aware of that before booking, we did not find them a problem but some may.
I would heartily recommend this property for a quiet, romantic, french holiday.
We stayed in this house for two weeks with our three kids (17, 15 and 13 years old). First of all La Redorte isn't the place to be with children of this âge, it is too quiet. Fortunately there is an excellent swimming pool in Peyriac.
The house is small and we were a little disappointed. No television reception, no outiside light on the terrasse, no microwave in the upstairs kitchen. Only one tiny WC and shower as the bigger shower and toilet are with a Sanibroyeur which disfunctionned a lot. It's a nice house for visiting the region but not for us as we spend a lot of time in the house reading, playing games, sunbathing and bbq-ing !
This house is absolutely lovely. It is very well-appointed with two kitchens being individually equipped with all you need to fix all of your meals. The upstairs kitchen, which we used most, would have benefited from having a microwave. The middle (bedroom floor) had three comfortable bedrooms with screened windows and fans. We were very comfortable but did leave before the hottest weather hit in July.
The WC room and shower room on the middle floor are very tiny. This did not bother us, but it should be noted. We did not use the shower on the ground floor, but it was larger. The entire house was clean and conformed completely to the listing.
I cannot say enough good things about the terrace. We practically lived out there. The furniture was very comfortable and shaded. The dining table on the terrace was our dinner table each evening. There was a lovely breeze most of the day.
If you rent during school days, please note that there is a school diagonally across the street which makes the small road congested during drop off and pick up. Otherwise, there is almost no traffic.
Nancy, who cares for the place for the owners, goes above and beyond for anyone who rents. She arranged a wine tasting and invited us to two celebrations in her small nearby village. You could not be in better hands.
In town, there is a boulangerie within walking distance as well as a grocery store and pizza place. There was also a pizza van in the square where we picked up delicious pizzas to eat on the terrace. I believe there was a crepe van on other evenings.
Not to be missed are the other small towns nearby: Homps for a ride on the Canal du Midi and some nice restaurants, Olonzac for its wonderful market on Tuesdays, Lac du Juarres for swimming, and if course Tourouzelle for Festiano wines and a wonderful wine tasting with Patrick. Also nearby, are Carcassonne, Fontfroide Abbey, ( neither to be missed), Beziers for the step locks, and the beaches just past Narbonne. If you are a beach person, I recommend Gruissan Plage. Parking is free and plentiful, the beach is beautiful, there are places to eat in town and along the beach, and it is a thoroughly pleasant day.
The only downside for those who want a lively town is that La Redorte is a very quiet town. If you are looking for a lot of cafes and restaurants, you will need to drive to find them. If you want a haven to come home to after a day of sightseeing, this is a place to consider. Also, there is no TV reception.
We were spending some days before Christmas. The house was very clean and in perfect status. As time was pretty cold, we used the heaters and the house was warm and confortable. I would definitively recommend staying here for rest and have a family days.
The village has all the commerce and services you will need, ready at hand, to be able to maximize the enjoyment of your holiday: the boulangerie and butcher are just around the corner, but there is a also a supermarket, petrol station, post office, pharmacy, another butcher, a hairdresser, a newspaper agent, an antique store, two bars/cafes, 2 restaurants and, most important, a bank and a cash dispenser. There is a daily bus service to and from Carcassonne. And if you want going by car, Carcassonne and Narbonne is in reach within a 20/30 minutes drive.
