Keepers Landing House Rental Photos and Description

Keepers Landing Across From The Marshwalk close to the Shoals Club & East Beach

Keepers Landing 22 (Landgrave Smith Cottage) was purchased in the fall of 2012 and is professionally decorated home with all new plush furnishings. This is the 3rd home that our family has owned on Bald Head Island and we are excited to share it with you. Our home is located in the Keepers Landing of the Cape Fear Station of Bald Head Island. Out the front door and across the street, our guests can enjoy use of the private marsh walk where you can fish, crab or launch a canoe or kayak. The Commons, a large park that the kids can play, includes a tower fort to climb and is just a short bike ride away. The Shoals Club is less than 2 minutes away by golf cart. As our guest, you have full use of the Shoals Club*, pool, dining, weight room and beach access.

When decorating our home, our desire was for it to be well appointed and very comfortable blending a fun nautical look with a few antiques. Great attention to detail was given throughout the house. We selected thick plush pillow top mattresses and pillows, fully stocked the kitchen and are excited to offer a 55 inch Samsung Smart TV with a Bose lifestyle sound system in the living area. Through the smart TV you can access Net Flix or any movie pass that you have on your home computer right from the remote control in our home. We wanted our guest to have the best in high tech entertainment as well as some great low tech board games, backgammon and cards!

The main house offers 2 bedrooms with a king, queen and bunk beds and 2.5 baths. The adjacent private crofter provides the 3rd bedroom with a Queen bed and full bath.

Bald Head Island, known as the Cape Cod of the south, is a wonderful place. You are on vacation as soon as you leave Deep Point Marina and take the 20 minute ferry ride to the to the Island. Hidden among the ancient live oaks, salt marsh and ocean environments; you can experience the sea turtles, deer, fox, and raccoon. Bald Head is a unique ecosystem with maritime forest, multiple beaches and river settings, multiple salt marsh, and lake environments. We love walking on the numerous nature trails and golf carting the entire island. Our family has always loved the slow pace and some of our best memories are simple grilled dinners, wildlife counts, card games or bike rides through the maritime forest. Star gazing is another of our favorite activities. We lay out on the marsh front dock just out our front door with the 'Night Sky' App. Recently we saw 3 shooting stars within 30 minutes of star gazing!

Our kids said that they enjoy Bald Head more than Disney.

The island has many activities to enjoy. Check out the lighthouse tours at 'Old Baldy' or camp opportunities for the kids through the Conservancy just up the street from Keepers 22. Stop by the marina for a captained charter of deep sea fishing through River Adventure Company and the Island Passage or one of several charter boats seen in the marina daily. You can rent bikes and kayaks or additional golf carts or at Coastal Urge you can rent paddle boards and surf boards. Check out the locally owned boutiques for island clothing or gift items for yourself or a friend. The new spa located near the grocery store is another great way to relax after a few days on the beach. Come be our guest and discover this very special island.

Frank one of our dear guests collected the 2 following quotes that just had to go on our page, so thanks Frank:

"Bald Head is beloved by those who find comfort in its simplicity"

, "Out here, devoid of most human noise, there is the mind numbing quiet of nature, and the small sounds of the island are stark and healing".

*There is a temporary membership fee of $175 for the week which includes all guests.

Generally speaking during the summer season, we rent Saturday to Saturday. Some exceptions might be possible. During the off season we can do nightly typically with 3 night minimums with some exceptions.

About Keith

Our family discovered BHI in 1987. We love Bald Head, and the unique opportunity for our family to grow close to each other and to our Lord and Creator. Bald Head slows us down, gives our family the opportunity to play board games, to talk and enjoy the natural and beautiful environment. We have been homeowners on Bald Head Island since 2004. We are excited about purchasing this house in this location and have enjoyed decorating it and turning into a home away from home. Enjoy and please come back and visit!

The Hellmer Family

Keith purchased this house in 2012

Why Keith chose Bald Head Island

We love Cape Fear Station because it is the newer side of the Island with close proximity to the Shoals Club (the best club on the island). Keepers Landing in Cape Fear is very special. Throughout the day we walk over to the Marsh Walk directly across from our home. Our favorite thing is to enjoy a pot of fresh blue crabs and fresh fish from the marsh. The home itself is a reverse floor plan with all the living area upstairs. We loved the two ancient live oaks on the property too and the abundant outdoor living areas.

What makes this house unique

It is rare in this day and age to be able to go someplace and have no worries about the kids and their safety ~ Bald Head is such a place. The lifestyle is slow and the opportunity for family quality time is what we love about the place.

This has been the only house we have ever rented more than once including all the beach and mountain homes we have rented. For this trip my parents and brother joined us and the floor plan worked great for everyone - my brother was able to get away in the crofter and my parents were able to enjoy time with their grand baby. Everything you need to b comfortable in the home and beach. We had a slight problem with the cart (tire) but it was quickly and efficiently taken care of. The owners and property manager were great!! We highly recommend this home for your BHI trip!

Awesome vacation house

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from a week at Keepers Landing 22 and had a wonderful time. Everything was just as described. The house was stocked with every thing we could need for a beach vacation. Even the little things like soap in the bathrooms and laundry detergent was all there. The house is 50 feet from the dock over the marsh and about 2/3mile from East Beach. We enjoyed the bikes and all the beach stuff (chairs, boogie boards. Etc). You really don't need to bring anything other than clothes. We love BHI.

Our best BHI trip yet!

  • 5 of 5

We discovered BHI in 2010 and have returned to the island annually ever since (except for 2013 when our son was born). This year we were able to convince some friends (also with a toddler) to come with us and experience all the island has to offer. It was also the first time our son got to experience BHI. I cannot say enough about this house - it was very well decorated and furnished, but also very comfortable! We had plenty of room to be out of each other's hair downstairs, but the upstairs was a great gathering area for our group. The outdoor areas (screened-in porch and upstairs open porch) were also wonderful. The golf cart worked great (and we know what a blessing a good cart is, we've had trouble in the past!) The location is great - we prefer the maritime forest for our stay; but it is very close in proximity to our favorite beach access point. The owners were WONDERFUL to work with in helping get our trip booked and honestly I can't say enough nice things about them! The house is very well maintained, in a great location, and everything I expect when I book a home at BHI. Long story short - when we know our travel dates for sure for this year - this is the house I plan to book.

As for the island itself - if you are looking for a place to relax - this is it! The second we step foot on the ferry to venture to BHI our stress just melts away! There is plenty to do to keep you "busy" but its also a great place to just get outdoors and relax on the beach, paddle in the creek, or ride a bike.

Note to parents with toddlers: there is no baby gate, we solved this problem by setting up the pack-and-play and using it at the top of the steps to keep the toddlers from venturing down the stairs alone. Worked like a charm!

Marsh Lovers Delight

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed staying so close to the marsh very much. The listing was spot on and the property was very clean and well maintained. The owner was very responsive and easy to work with. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative looking to stay on Bald Head Island.

I don't know why anyone would stay anywhere else on Bald Head Island. Unless you need a larger house, you are missing out on a slice of heaven on earth. I'm very picky about where I vacation and we were here for the glorious event of my son's wedding. We decided to make it a week long event and came over a week before the wedding. I wish I could have stayed a week after the wedding. WE WILL BE BACK!!! The house was everything you see in the pictures and more. The den area is much larger than the pics show and everything and I mean EVERYTHING IN THE HOUSE is top notch. Keith and his wife have gone out of their way to ensure you have all the pleasures of home. I've never stayed in a home where I don't take my own dishes. I took my own dishes this time because I knew at least one evening we would have two families over to eat. There was no need for me to take my dishes. I didn't get them out of the box!!! From the silverware to laundry detergent provided, to the mattresses to the TV's, it was all of superb quality. DON'T WASTE your time staying anywhere else on the island if you are looking for a three bedroom. My son stayed in the crofter which worked out well for him and then his honeymoon night he and his bride stayed in the crofter and had their privacy. Keith worked with us and allowed us to leave a little later as the wedding festivities weren't over until late Saturday night. My clan will be back I hope and in the meantime, I'm trying to replicate the owner's bedspread just so I can feel a little bit of BHI on a daily basis. TRULY A MAGNIFICENT place!!!

Perfect Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

My family just returned from a fantastic two weeks at this lovely home. We had perfect weather and more than perfect accommodations. The house has all the extras to make your stay comfortable and easy. We had a few minor issues in the house upon arrival, one call and two hours later after coming back from the beach, items taken care of...great service! The location is perfect, we spent many mornings and evenings on the dock crabbing, fishing and just relaxing. Great and beautiful beaches are a short bike or cart ride away. 22 Keepers Landing and Bald Head Island make for a vacation that we will be sure to repeat again. Beautiful spot!!
