The casa de emdeko is a very special place. People who have come here in the past keep coming back, some every year for over twenty years. The owners and guests are very friendly and you can make lifelong friends here. Yet if you want a quiet romantic dinner this too is possible. The cabana serves coffee in the morning and in the evening is a great place to barbeque your dinner and watch the sunset and maybe even a green flash if you are lucky. There are two swimming pools on the property with one so close to the ocean it is salty sometimes from the waves coming over the wall. The private beach is a wonderful place to get a good tan or catch up on that nap (i mean book you wanted to read). The tide pool is a great place to see eels in the evening around sunset, over the years people have taught them there will be food. They like chicken bones the best. Yes, some of them have names 'fury' and 'rose' are the red ones (the color of red wine) but they only come around if you have fish to feed them. Bob will come up on the rocks if you throw the food in the right place. You can sometimes see the manta rays if the surf is mellow, over by the fire-lane on the north side.
Now about our unit. Only a few units can say that they have no stairs, ours is one. It is on the south-side, so you are in the shade on the lanai in the mornings. Back by the dolphin fountain, so you are away from the noise of the swimming pools and cabana when in the unit. We are also very very close to the laundry-room area. There is not a change machine or a place to buy soap, but the deli up front does have soap and change for customers.
We have free WiFi for our guests, encrypted so you are not sharing with anyone, or having to find one that is not encrypted, or you can direct connect if you like. The appliances in our unit are new, fridge, stove, dishwasher and disposer. We have been living there for the last two years so they are really nice. The phone has free long distance to the mainland.
Jeff and Jolene live 1.2 miles from the Casa. We have been married 33 years. We love Hawaii and want others to enjoy their stay here.
Jolene and Jeff Hanline purchased this condo in 2005
We fell in love with the Casa the first time we stayed there and want to retire there.
We live 1.2 miles from the Casa and can be there in less than 5 minutes if there is any problem. We lived in our unit for two years (not many owners have spent more than a month here and there in theirs), so we know it inside and out.
My husband and I spent 2 glorious weeks in Hawaii at Casa De Emdeko. The property was everything we hoped and more. The condo was equipped with everything we needed and was clean and inviting. Jolene the owner was terrific and was always there for us from picking us up at the airport to helping with directions. The location was perfect for us. The grounds were beautifully landscaped with lush plants and flowers. We had 2 pools one of which was salt water overlooking the ocean. We rarely ate out as the property had 3 grills which we used regularly which gave us the opportunity to meet and chat with other people staying at the complex. We were looking for quiet and private and that is exactly what we go.
I am very glad I found Jolene and Casa De Emdeko and will recommend it anyone visiting the Big Island.

. . . in a terrific location! Near downtown Kailua-Kona yet walking distance to a couple of local beaches, and roughly midpoint between Two Step and Manini'owali Beach. It's a small complex with easy access to the units, and great to find a ground level place. We liked it so much, we were grateful to be able to come back to it after our five days in Volcano. Thanks, Janine!
My daughter stayed here for her graduation gift. Since she didn't have a car, the public transportation was very convenient to get around. They enjoyed the nearby beaches, town, food options, and the activities were easy to get to. They went snorkeling off the boat and rented jet skis. It was a short visit but they thoroughly enjoyed it. They were very comfortable in the Casa de Emdeko and it was everything listed in the description. The bed was comfortable and the kitchen and bathroom were a nice size. She even said that she wants to go back some day and would stay there again. I am even thinking of planning a trip for myself there because she liked it that much!
This is my third time staying in this condo and each time is better than the last. The condo has everything needed to help you enjoy your stay. Snorkel, boogie boards, noodles, chairs, coolers, umbrella, and many other amenities, including a kitchen with all utensils needed. The grounds are very nice with two pools to choose from, and the neighbors, whether residence or fellow visitors, are friendly and welcoming. Thank you Jolene for making my stay wonderful again!
We had a very nice vacation in Hawaii, the Casa De Emdeko is a great place to stay. This unit is not a freshly renovated one, so your expectations need to be set accordingly. It is equipped very well, with all the stuff you may have forgotten to bring with you and more. The pools and the gardens are well kept and inviting. We would stay again.
We were acquainted with Casa a few years ago when my family stayed there. This year we too rented a spot at Casa for our entire 3 week vacation. The Hanline's suite is on the main floor facing the north so it does not get the direct sun - which is nice on those warm Hawaiian days. The suite is well furnished and equipped with everything necessary for cooking meals, cleaning up and vacationing (including some beach chairs, umbrella, boogie boards, water shoes etc.) . The suite was clean with fresh linens etc. Jolene was great about responding promptly to any questions we had prior to our arrival as well as when we were there.
Casa has a wonderful little beach area and a fantastic salt water pool right along the rock beach wall. The ocean front is not accessible for swimming so this pool is a wonderful asset to Casa. We like to walk along the rocky shore north of the property and dig in the coral and shell rocks looking for treasures when the tide allows. Casa is located only a couple miles out of Kailua Kona. Its an easy and enjoyable walk especially early in the day. Many people make it a daily ritual to walk along Alii Drive.
Staying in Kona is best if you rent a vehicle. There is so much to see on the Island that it makes it worth while and at the end of any excursion - its always nice to come "home" to Casa. We went whale watching with Hang Loose tours and found them to be very reasonable and delivered what we signed up for. We watched several whales for quite awhile in close proximity. We toured to the Volcano, South Point, Green Sands, North to Hawi and to the Pololu lookout - each were breath taking! our favourite restaurant is Splashers, at the beginning of Alii drive, where the service is great and the prices are reasonable. (being on a Canadian travelers budget they allowed us to share meals at no extra charge and were more than accommodating to allow this. Breakfast includes the coffee which is another bonus! Huggo's is a nice place to put your feet in the sand and have a happy hour cocktail and some fish tacos or sliders.
The common area is equipped with several great barbecues to cook evening meals and many of the vacationers enjoy their meals under the gas lit torches. If you don't come with friends you will probably make a few by the time you leave. It is a real community and everyone at Casa; the workers,
There is a deli on site for quick eats and drinks. In the evenings while watching the sunset on the private beach you can toss some chicken bones into the tide pools and watch the eels come up and have dinner.
