Palm Island is one of the last best kept secrets on the Gulf of Mexico. It is only accessible by boat, with two ferry’s running generous hours daily for both cars and pedestrians. Palm Island is near Englewood, Florida and just north of Boca Grande. Fly into Sarasota, Fort Myers, Punta Gorda or Tampa. The island is seven miles long with plenty of clean sandy beaches and great shelling and shark teeth and the Don Pedro Nature Preserve.

Many years ago, there were three different islands...Knight Island to the north (now known as Palm Island), Don Pedro Island in the middle and Little Gasparilla to the south. Years ago, the passes between each one closed up and they became one island, sharing the 7 mile beach. Don Pedro, Knight Island and Palm Island are often referred to interchangeably.

Life on the island is exactly what one dreams about when they think of island life—relaxed, laid back, quiet, subdued, and yet just a quick hop on the ferry to enter the “real world.” There are only about 200 homes on the island, no big bridges, causeways, busy roads, street lights, etc. The air is clean; there are few cars, no hustle and bustle from busy roads. Golf carts and bikes are mostly used for transportation. All of this is what makes the island extra special, very safe and calm.

The beach is just a short walk away and golf cart rental is available on the island. There is one island restaurant and a small store to purchase minimal supplies. Rent kayaks, boats, bicycles, or charter a fishing trip. Enjoy many restaurants, golf courses, and shopping on the mainland but NOT on the island. Don’t be surprised to see manatees, tortoise, exotic birds, dolphins and any number of fish on your adventure.

Once your get here you will never want to leave!

Great family vacation week

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 5 had a great experience on our first trip to Palm Island. A-Lure was a great house, with many amenities. We especially loved the private screened-in porch and pool area. The house was clean and inviting and Suzie, the property manager, was wonderful! The lovely little island was so quaint and relaxing with uncrowded beaches and lots of beautiful scenery. We will definitely be back!

Great Family Adventure on Palm Island

  • 5 of 5

Our family had an absolutely fabulous adventure on Palm Island staying at A-Lure! It was our first time on the island and we loved the secluded beauty of the island. We stayed two weeks and did lots of exploring... we saw several gopher tortoises, collected a lot of beautiful shells, caught a variety of fish off the dock at the house and at the beach and amazingly found many sharks teeth. The beaches were so nice with so few people it felt like we had them practically all to ourselves. The house was exactly as the pictures showed and was very comfortable with everything we needed. The large sliding doors to the covered, screened in porch were perfect for early morning coffee and late evening breezes. The pool is much larger than the pictures indicate and we enjoyed swimming in it and lounging around it every afternoon. Our kids also enjoyed riding around the island on the golf cart we rented. There is lots to do on the island and it was a struggle to fit trips in to the mainland! We've already reserved again for next year and can't wait to return. Suzie and Stu were available throughout our time at the house to answer all our questions very promptly which was really nice to have. Thanks for making our vacation so great!

Great vacation destination

  • 5 of 5

A-Lure.... My family and I had a great stay on the island, it was our first time staying and the island and we hope to return soon. One week was not enough time to do all the exploring I'd hoped to do. The beaches were amazing ( lots of shells and SHARKS TEETH! ). The sunsets from the beach were like no other I've seen! And I was able to catch several fish off the dock behind the house. The house and property was more than spacious enough for the four of us, and it was very well kept/clean upon our arrival. I especially found the bedding very comfortable. The pool was also an added perk to the rental and we found it to be very relaxing and clean. The property manager was also very friendly, helpful and informative about the ferry portage from the mainland and back, and also helpful with recommendations for groceries etc. Thanks again Suzie!

Relaxing Week at the Beach

  • 5 of 5

We have been vacationing to Don Pedro / Knight Island for 20 years. A-Lure is primo. We spent a lot of time downstairs at the fabulous pool and made use of the grill daily. The dock with electricity and water was fantastic for our boat. It was a short distance to the intracoastal. The master bath renovation is first class and fun. The house is very clean and well maintained. Usually my allergies are an issue in hotels and rentals, but I was breathing better than ever at A-Lure. The property manager is super responsive and very accommodating. We highly recommend the property.

What a week!

  • 5 of 5

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at A-Lure. Having vacationed for over 15 years on Little Gasparilla Island we decided to try Knight/Palm Island this year and chose A-Lure. While we love Little Gasparilla, we found Knight Island to be even better by virtue of having a few more amenities. We spent much of the week on our boat fishing and traveling to the many restaurants accessible by water. When not on the boat, A-Lure proved to be even better than advertised…we were comfortable the whole time. The pool was fantastic and the home had everything we needed. We rented a golf cart for the week which allowed for daily trips to the beach to watch the sunset. Suzie was very helpful and responsive when needed and the owners were very gracious. We loved our first trip to Knight Island and A-Lure and we would highly recommend it…we will certainly be back!
