Brian O'Keefe owns Mooretown Sawmill as well as several rental properties in the local mountain area. Born and raised in Mooretown, Brian had a dream of carving out the land and creating a successful sawmill.
His dream became a reality in 1987. Mooretown Mill is located in the beautiful mountains of Northeast Pa. near the unforgettable Rickett's Glen State Park. Here at Mooretown, we use local timber to produce a quality product.
That same product and craftsmanship can be found in all of Brian's rental properties producing a beautiful rustic feel. He takes great pride in the quality of his work and enjoys sharing that with others.
All of our renters will tell you that Brian will go out of his way to ensure your stay is unforgettable.
In his spare time (if any) he enjoys jaunts on his KTM motorcycle, and is an active member in many organizations dealing with educating the youth of PA in the logging industry; his passion and joy.
He lives at Mooretown with his Black Labs, Echo and Bear Cub.
Brian purchased this house in 2009
You can't beat this location if you are looking for a get-away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life! Cozy, quiet, rustic, yet local to any outdoor activities enough to keep you busy! Enjoy the outdoors all year long!
The cabin is fully equipped. No need to pack everything just to get away for a mountain vacation. All the amenities and yet you don't have to 'rough it'. Rickett's Glen state park hosts over 1 million visitors a year. Our property is minutes from the Park. Enjoy hiking over 22 waterfalls, kayaking, mountain biking, cross country skiing, hunting or just enjoying some good local BBQ and be minutes away from kicking back in front of the fireplace or out in the pavilion.
I've stayed at this location at least 8 times in the past 4 years, and here are my reasons for coming back. 1) The location of the cabin is perfect for a group who's sole purpose is to hike the falls. The cabin is halfway up the mountain, an equal distance between the hiking entrance across from the Ricketts Glen hotel, and the entrance to the park office. VERY convenient. 2) The amenities are exactly what my friends and I need once it is too dark to hike. There is a full kitchen, fireplace inside for cold nights, and a fire pit outside for warmer nights. 3) The cabin truly is "cozy". There is one bedroom only, but there are sleeping accommodations in the living room by the fire. Who needs a bedroom anyway?? 4) I like waking up to the sound of the stream that runs through the property, and then drinking coffee while watching the sun rise over the trees out front. 5) The price is right, affordable enough for me to visit more than once a year, so why not?
My husband and I stayed at this cabin to celebrate our 22nd Anniversary last October (I forgot to complete a review until now...sorry). When pulling up to the cabin, we were a little apprehensive, but once inside, we were unexpectedly surprised. The interior of the cabin was inviting and relaxing. Chips and salsa was waiting for us upon our arrival. We hiked at Rickett's Glen all day Saturday (it was a little cold), but then came back to the cabin where we lit a fire in the fireplace and warmed right up. Would definitely stay at this cabin again if we were ever to be in the area again. Thank you!
My husband and I booked the cabin as a last minute getaway from the hustle and bustle of the tri-state area and to enjoy the nearby hiking at Rickett's Glen State Park. We were greeted by complimentary chips and salsa and were surprised at how big the living area was as the pictures don't do it justice. The temperature was in the 40's when we stayed and we took advantage of the large fireplace in the living room each night. Also, the house was spotless!
Although the Waterfall trail was closed when we visited, we were able to enjoy the Old Bulldozer Trail located in Rickett's Glen and had many laughs along the way, as there was still about a foot of snow on the ground at the peak. If we ever make it back to the area (that Waterfall Trail is still on our bucket list), we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
Amazing weekend! Loved how close it was to hiking trails. The fire place was the best. Relaxing with all we needed!
I give this lodging mixed reviews. This cozy cabin is located on Route 487 (a relatively busy road that includes tractor trailer traffic) close to large tracts of scenic public lands and trails. The interior is delightful, warm, interesting, and well equipped. However, consider bringing mattresses or sleeping pads as the bed, pull out couch, and futon mattresses are all very firm. There was no problem reserving the cabin, paying, getting a key, etc. The owners seem very organized. Unfortunately, and most likely unintentionally, the correspondence we received about having kids in the cabin bordered on insulting. It was emphasized that kids should be supervised. And noted that kids would trash the place if we were planning on having "a vacation from the kids while they were still with us." Clever phrase but not applicable. If you do have children I suggest looking around for a more welcoming option. If you don't have kids then you may enjoy this little getaway.
Could not have asked for better accommodations & location. Close to trail heads & after we hiked all day this was the paradise to come back to. For seven of us it was still do-able even with futons & cot. Will definitely stay again. Luv the history & fun facts about the cabin & family sawmill. Thank u for a great place to explore and kick back!
Property borders Ricketts Glen State Park. Ricketts Glen harbors Glens Natural Area, a National Natural Landmark.
